Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView 😁

1. No fictional series at the mo, but I‘m loving Between the Covers on BBC - a book club show discussing new releases and old favourites. It‘s the last episode of this series next week and I shall be bereft. (Won‘t we @MicheleinPhilly ?! 😭)

2. I can‘t think of any off the top of my head… #thebookisalwaysbetter 🤣🤣🤣

youneverarrived I love sitting down with a glass of wine watching between the covers 😁 2y
TheSpineView You're welcome 2y
squirrelbrain It‘s warm, fluffy telly isn‘t it?! 🤗 @youneverarrived 2y

Eggs Sounds fun 🤗🥰 2y
MicheleinPhilly Between BTC and the final series of For the Love of Dogs debuting today, tv is making me very sad. I should just read a book instead. 😩 2y
squirrelbrain I can‘t remember if you can get Channel 4 @MicheleinPhilly ? It‘s All4 on catch-up / streaming. If so, try The Dog House. There‘s a few UK series, and we‘ve just got the first Aus one. 2y

This was my first 'The book was so much better than the movie' experience. I remember watching the movie and thinking 'this can't be the same thing as that book I read.' #TheBookIsAlwaysBetter

Eggs Well done! 2y
mandarchy I had no idea it was a book! I was talking to (a perfectly mature adult) about this movie for a moment before realizing that they looked confused. Apparently not everyone has seen this movie. Which is funny. I don't really watch movies anymore - so if it came out after 1990 - I probably haven't seen it. So I can't be judging the young people. 2y

TheBookgeekFrau @mandarchy Yup, it came out in 1981. And I know EXACTLY what you mean; I was talking to one of my daughter's army buddies who is 22 and I mentioned MacGyver and then was like, 'oh wait, do you even know who MacGyver is?' 😅 (he did lol) 2y
mandarchy @TheBookgeekFrau I had a co-worker stare at me in complete oblivion when I said something about God's cigar. She had never seen or heard of George Burns. BTW, he wrote one of my all-time favorite books about Gracie Allen. 2y
TheBookgeekFrau @mandarchy I didn't know George Burns wrote a book! But then again, being God and all 🤣 Yeah, I can just picture the stare you got for that one!! 2y

Normally I read the book first. I always believe that the book is better. However this novel I read after watching the new Hulu show and I loved doing it in this order. The book and show are so similar that it‘s almost word for word, yet the book adds in a few extra scenes and information the show was missing which I found fascinating.

Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve been putting off watching the show until get to this one. Now maybe necessary. 🤔 4y
FeatherV The show and the movie are almost word for word in a lot of spots, the book adds more commentary in some areas but I personally enjoyed reading the book more from having watched the show 4y

This is the story about Percy Fawcett, explorer who was obsessed with mythological city - El Dorado, and who eventually disappeared in the jungle (in 1925). It‘s also the story about author - David Grann and his obsession with the Fawcett, and his expedition to find Fawcett. Although I liked some parts, especially parts from Fawcett‘s diary, I find the story as whole rather boring. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cinfhen I was really drawn to this story. I was totally fascinated. Although I heard the movie was terrible. 6y

MaleficentBookDragon @Cinfhen the movie was horrible. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds intriguing, sorry it didn‘t live up to the hype for you. 6y
Bookzombie @Cinfhen I felt the same way about this one. 🙂 6y
Cinfhen My hubby is quite the movie critic and he had NOTHING nice to say about the film @MaleficentBookDragon which goes to prove @Bookzombie #TheBookIsAlwaysBetter 6y
MaleficentBookDragon @Cinfhen I was angry after watching it. Angry at the movie and angry at myself for sticking around for the whole thing. 😕 6y
Cinfhen That‘s the worst @MaleficentBookDragon and I‘m surprised because I felt this book WOULD make a good movie 🍿 😜 6y

Sick and twisted. No redeeming value and yet an awesome read. Now on to watch the show. #thebookisalwaysbetter

Fun, interesting, and entertaining steampunk. It‘s definitely written for a YA crowd and it was a little more simplistic than I usually like. But the ideas of “traction cities” and “municipal Darwinism” are such fascinating concepts it kept me engrossed. Also- I immediately saw the movie after finishing the book-so fun! #thebookisalwaysbetter but this movie was pretty good too!

alysonimagines I agree—the book is better but I still really enjoyed the movie! 6y
jelsie I love these books. I read the prequels earlier this year and also enjoyed the film. 6y
kaysworld1 I've just got this I am excited to read it, I loved the movie 😁 6y

For some reason I thought this was a mini series so I started it tonight only to realize it was actually a movie. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I haven‘t read the book and I liked the movie but I have a feeling the book does a better job at telling the story. Doesn‘t it always? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Lol.

Kimberlone There were parts I liked about the movie, but many of the changes from the book felt unnecessary to me. The book is fairly short and tells a pretty simple story (for being a dystopian sci-fi novel), while the movie seemed to want to make too much of a point about our own time (but without fully accomplishing that). I wanted to love it, but the book is much superior in my opinion. And I generally have no problem with movie adaptations of books. 7y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Kimberlone I noticed that the movie focused on a lot of things that were relevant to our own time that didn‘t feel authentic. I‘m hoping I can get to the book this week and compare. 7y
Kimberlone @That-Bookish-Hiker for it! it‘s a quick read and really is about a love of books and the danger of censorship. 7y

I loved this book! It was so clever and sinister. I read it in one sitting. We tried to watch the movie tonight and could only make it half way through. What a disappointment 😭 It was quite boring. #thebookisalwaysbetter

BookishMe Yes, I was excited to watch the movie after enjoying the book. Discouraging reviews saved me the time. 7y
Bookladylinda Oh noooo! I love Tom Hanks!! I still need to reAd this one. (edited) 7y

SandyW Alas. I loved the book and was looking forward to the movie. 7y
BookishMe @ReadingSusan I hear you... Exactly how I feel about books that don't appeal to me. The opportunity cost of enjoying a 'better' book ;)) 7y
Airforcesister The movie was horrible. 7y
Purrfectpages I‘ve wanted to try the movie because I did enjoy the book, but I keep hearing not so great things. 7y

Finally watching this on HBO tonight. 😁
Has anyone else seen this? And if so did you like it?

#booktomovie #thebookisalwaysbetter

Betty I didn't know it was on HBO. Will watch. Thanks! 7y
missarixreads I still need to watch! 7y
APLitlife What did you think? I haven‘t watched because my students were disappointed in it. 7y
Purrfectpages I didn‘t realize it was on HBO. I‘ll have to check it out since I read the book. Did you like it? 7y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Purrfectpages @APLitlife it was ok. Different than the book and some of the things they add to tie in the book were kind of awkward but I do get second hand embarrassment pretty easily lol. 7y
