Joking aside the description of Schedoni gave me chills and I can‘t wait to read more about him and the formidable Marchesa!

#SuperSeptember update: four goals met, 1 DNF completed another; doubt I‘ll get to my last goal as I have a queue of borrowed books I need to work on next. Will try to get to Spin by the end of the month.

Zeus was not only my #doublespin this month, but it put me atop Mt Everest for my unofficial #MountTBR challenge! Now to see if I can focus enough to read my own books to get to Mt Olympus.

I‘m kind of disappointed, tbh. This “journey” was rambling, disjointed, and had very little of the framing modern-day trip. I found the Zeus stuff interesting but didn‘t understand the organization very well. There was a LOT of “but that story is beyond the scope of this book” and while true, lots of digressions that would have bloated this book, it still feels like a blow-off. Should have been better.

Agamemnon, however, had always treated the world as though it were his by Divine Fiat and that, because of this, things would always turn out for the best no matter what he chose to so. Sometimes, his efforts appeared to be inspired.... At other times, however, his decisions seemed destructively thickheaded.... But in Agamemnon‘s mind, it was important not to admit having made a mistake.

First two done, 45% on the tagged, DNFed Regina, haven‘t started Spin. And getting the Kendi yesterday from the library affects things, but I‘m trying to make progress on Zeus before switching gears.
Overall I feel like I‘m doing pretty well.

Things are tough (so different from the last six months 🙄) so we‘ll see how this works out.

1) Can‘t think of a literary character I wish I was named after, but Andie McDowell‘s character in the movie Green Card is named Brontë and I think that would be such a cool name!
2)Our cat is #Zeus (came with the name). Our dog is #LordByron. My daughter named him. While a real person, he was also a character in a play my daughters were in at Girl Scout Camp.?

A page turner you won‘t want to put down, Bennett‘s 2nd novel represents a huge leap forward in her maturity and growth as a writer. The plot carries you along with plenty of unexpected and sometimes incredible turns, while delving into race, identity, intersectionality with deep empathy. She very deftly reveals both the fiction of race and its all too real power to define and to limit while examining what we gain and lose as we strive to become.

Better than the first Heroes in Training, this installment follows Zeus, Poseidon, and Hera on a quest to find the golden trident. A pleasant middle grade myth-based adventure. Assigned reading from the kiddo.
