The Third Witch | Rebecca Reisert

Life‘s too short to stick with a book that leaves me feeling lukewarm! Had to bail on The Third Witch because it didn‘t capture my imagination within the first ten chapters. (The chapters are short, but still.) I read for an hour in the dance pickup line Wednesday and immediately picked up and read a different book when I got home. #bookspin #doublebookspin #bookbail

TheAromaofBooks I bailed on a book this week, too. Sometimes you just have to move on! 2y
mrsmarch @TheAromaofBooks Bailing is physically hard for me! It‘s too much like failing…to give the book a fair shot. 2y

when do you call it quits on a book? i just made it to chapter 4 and i am not able to really get into this book…. what‘s your rule when it comes to dry books?

Horvendile88 Good question...personally, it is always contingent upon other factors such as how much time I have to read in the near future, what other books I have in my to-read queue, and whether or not I believe the book is worth pushing through. 3y

Life is just too short to read books you don't enjoy! I'm not even remotely getting into this one ... the dialogue warrants multiply eye rolls. I believe it falls under YA genre, which I'm not a fan of, which could be why I dislike it so much. Could be something for someone you enjoys YA, teen narration and suspense.

• I misread or misunderstood the synopsis of the tagged book: this is a young adult novel with a MC in high school. The language and manner of speaking shows Emoni's annoying youth. It might be a good story, but I can't read a character who commonly uses the slang word "moms." No thank you, not at this time and doubtful in the future •

TheBookKeepers Aw yeah it did feel heavy on the “Y” in YA!! I did enjoy the audiobook of this one, but the food descriptions kept me going! Kudos for bailing tho, if a book isn‘t working I‘m 💯 down for bailing on it! Sooo many other great books to spend time on! 4y
bibliobliss @TheBookKeepers I tried but this format wasn't working. I might try the audio, now that you mention it 😉 Thanks 4y

Full of promise until I started reading. The narrative voice didn't appeal to me, making it a story I had to push my way through. Rather than suffering, I quit and moved on. #bookbail #timebetterspent

Ugh, I don't like this at all. The screaming, raging main character ruins everything, and I can't care about the "mystery".

BookishMarginalia I liked it, anxious main character and all, but if it's not grabbing you, do a #bookbail -- life's too short and the #tbr too high to stick with books that don't resonate! 8y
tricours @BookishMarginalia I've read too far to quit! It's only a 5h audiobook, so it's not that bad. Plus, she has calmed down, a bit. She just seems too incompetent to be a credible as a journalist!! 8y
BookishMarginalia Agreed. I never thought she was a journalist, more like those wannabes who wildly overestimate their own abilities... 8y
tricours @BookishMarginalia exactly! I dont understand where her sense of entitlement comes from. And she was weirdly mean to that poor boyfriend 😛 8y

Hmm, I don't know about this one. All the reviews I've read are glowing, but so far it just seems like gossipy school moms. Maybe I'm not the right audience, or maybe I'm still in the "getting to know the characters" part. Should I stick with it?

BookishMarginalia It IS gossipy school moms. That's part of its charm for me. But if it's not speaking to you, do a #bookbail! Life's too short, even for my favorite Moriarty! 8y
Chessa I found the gossipy school moms thing so true to love from that I found it hysterical. It actually gets much more serious as it goes on, subject-matter wise. 8y
Chessa *true to LIFE. We really need an edit button!!!! 8y

Onceuponatime @BookishMarginalia I'm not ready just yet, I hate to bail! 🤓 I'll roll with it a bit longer now that I know that's kind if its thing 8y
Onceuponatime @Chessa Yes, I got what you meant! 😉Maybe that's my issue...it's a little too close to home. Gossipy PTA moms at my kids' school are my nightmare! 😆I'll see if I can distance myself from that a little more... 8y
Cobscook I thought it was fun but I can see why it would irritate you. 8y
Onceuponatime @Cobscook I often buy books based on reviews and stars alone, without even reading the synopsis! 😳I probably should have read it first, with this one. 😆That's Ok, though, I'll have patience with these moms! 8y

I've been working on this for 3 weeks. It was due back at the library today, and I was 3/4 of the way through. I decided I would rather save myself the one day late charge. It wasn't bad. I just wasn't that invested.

BookishMarginalia I support the #bookbail 🤓 8y

When the "romantic tension" in a relationship is one partner literally trying to murder the other, it's time for me to head for the exit. There's a lot of progressive stuff going on in this book but seriously, could we stop encouraging girls to date the boy who wants to kill them?

BookishMarginalia I support the #bookbail especially for that reason! 8y
Broke_Girl_Reads @BookishMarginalia thanks! I see why so many people enjoyed the plot and the ragtag crew, but the casual inclusion of violence really knocked me off the fun bus 8y

I truly hate to do this but I have made it to 42% and it is just such a drag for me. None of the characters seem to jump out at me and the book itself seems flat and two dimensional. I may give it another go once I've had a little break.

RebeccaH Sometimes you just have to stop! 8y
BookishMarginalia I have this but haven't tackled it yet. And I support the #bookbail -- life is too short and books too plentiful to stick with a book that doesn't resonate. 8y

Godmotherx5 You have it a good run. 8y
NerdyRev Aww. I have this one on my shelf too. 8y
Reviewsbylola Every review I have read has been overwhelmingly positive so I am definitely in the minority. I actually think that's why I am struggling to try and finish it. @NerdyRev 8y
TheNextBook I liked this book but I can completely understand why you bailed. Some parts seemed unbelievable and forced. I liked the main character and was really interested in where the story was going. It's always better to bail on a book that isnt sitting with you than drag through if you dont connect. 8y
