pickThis book hit me just right this week. Wiley's style is straightforward, but she trusts her young readers to fill in the blanks so she doesn't feed them every hint and detail. The setting feels a little insubstantial (the details are vivid, but I don't feel myself rooted in the prairie while reading), but the main characters are delightful. And I learned that Wiley's a blogging homeschooler who used to live in San Diego, so that's kind of cool.

I read it right after my mom died and I mostly tried to read it so I could attend the zoom meeting because I feel so cut off from everyone and everything. I‘d made chocolate banana brownies to see how they would be and Leo was curious.

pickThis had a conspiracy theory feel, which is not something I'm interested in. Also, for someone who's so kick-ass, Lily gets kidnapped on an irritatingly regular basis. But they did hang out at a Brownie reservation for a bit and they got some new and interesting info about the dragons.
