Annabel thinks her mom has the best life. If she were a grown-up, she could do whatever she wanted! Then one morning she wakes up to find she's turned into her mother . . . and she soon discovers it's not as easy as it looks! Disney brings this popular and funny favorite to the silver screen in a new, totally modern story, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

I‘ve watched this movie before but never ready the book. I think that this book is perfect for young adults to try and understand where their parents are coming from when they make decisions. On the other side this story helps parents understand what their children may be going through during their teen years.

This book is a classic that explores the funny and insightful consequences of a mother and daughter swapping bodies. The story is witty, filled with relatable moments, and carries a heartwarming message about understanding each other's perspectives.

I cannot believe I never read this as a kid because I loved the Jodie Foster movie so much! Well, I have remedied that situation. 😂

#TemptingTitles #WithAWeekday I must have read this version with the pink cover at least a dozen times when I was little. Even though I should‘ve been too old to care about the Jamie Lee Curtis adaptation when it came out, I totally saw it, and I was MAD that it had basically nothing to do with the plot of the book! @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

eeclayton Wow, I didn't know the film was based on a book! 11mo
IndoorDame @eeclayton yup! Loosely. This was published in 72 so the 03 movie included lots of updating of the plot and the vibe 11mo

I am having such a frustrating day! Hubby left early for work so I got a nice long shower, but everything has gone to pot since then. Smoke detector signaled its end of life 45 minutes before kiddo had to be up, outside her door. School did not go well thanks to that wake-up. Then I find our next four weeks of history curriculum make no sense and I have to rearrange/prune all of it. Hubby suggested takeout for dinner. 👍 I wanna hide and read!😩

ImperfectCJ Those days when everything seems to mess up are so hard! (And why do alarms always seem to malfunction when people are sleeping?) Hopefully you get a rest and some good reading time over the weekend. 3y
Tamra Sounds like a good plan for evening. 3y
ravenlee @ImperfectCJ I had one die this summer and had to find a replacement and install it while the dying one was shrieking incessantly, while my husband was deployed and trying to “help” me through the process. 🙄 Apparently these things have a 5-7 year life expectancy - and our house is about 7 now, so this weekend we‘re just going to replace all of them we haven‘t already. Preemptive strike! Thanks for the good wishes. 3y

ravenlee @Tamra takeout for dinner made everything better! Although trying to read in the parking lot as the light was fading wasn‘t the best, I did get in a good ten minutes! Hopefully more to come. 3y
Tamra @ravenlee it‘s funny because I read your post right before two, yes two, of ours starting chirping! 3y

Long before Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis brought their body-swapped mother/daughter characters to life in the 2003 movie Freaky Friday, there was a book that inspired it! On Episode 111 of my podcast, author Suzanne Park joins me to discuss the source material, a 1972 middle grade novel by Mary Rodgers. We compare the book to the movies, take a close look at the book‘s more problematic elements, and more. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Link to listen in bio!

1. Anything by Neil Gaiman. The Wrath & the Dawn books. The Lunar Chronicles. The list goes on and on.
2. Favorite comedies are all pretty much Seth Rogan comedies or other such dumb comedies. I also thoroughly enjoy White Chicks. Fantasy movies are always great for distractions.
3. Favorite podcast, hands down, is Lore. TV shows include GoT, My 600-Pound Life, Hoarders, Catfish (yes I love trashy reality TV)
4. Reading (obvs), also cross-stitch

1. I love all sorts of music and don‘t feel guilty for any of it. Even when I‘m belting out Disney songs ... in the car ... with the windows down. 🤣 Sometimes people do stare. But it‘s okay, I just smile and sing “let it go!” 🎶
2. 🍂 autumn

4. I had a grilled chicken sandwich.
5. Happy Friday 👋🏻

MicrobeMom Love Disney songs too! Totally not guilty! 5y
RvnclawWhovian I‘ve been wanting to read some paranormal. Any faves/must reads? 5y
wanderinglynn @RvnclawWhovian 😂😂😂 Are you ready for this conversation?! But my top picks are: Charlaine Harris‘s Sookie Stackhouse series, Jim Butcher‘s Dresden files series, Anne Bishop‘s The Others series, Ilona Andrews‘s Kate Daniels series (really anything by Ilona Andrews), Patricia Briggs‘s Mercy Thompson series (and also her other series, but I like Mercy the best), Amanda Stevens‘s Graveyard Queen series, Chloe Neill‘s Devil‘s Isle series. 5y
See All 10 Comments
wanderinglynn @RvnclawWhovian For lighter paranorm & paranorm romance, I recommend Juliet Blackwell‘s Haunted Home Renovation series & her Witchcraft Mystery series, Michele Bardsley‘s Broken Heart series, Victoria Laurie‘s Ghost Hunter Mystery series, & pretty much anything by Katie McAlister. (edited) 5y
wanderinglynn Oh and I forgot Darynda Jones‘s Charley Davidson series & Deborah Harkness‘s All Souls Trilogy. 5y
BeckyandBooks I love singing a long to Disney songs. My kids think I‘m ridiculous! 5y
xxjenadanxx I love Disney and have no shame in my game either. Life‘s too short to not sing along! 5y
RvnclawWhovian @wanderinglynn omg thank you so much!!! I‘ve read the sookie stackhouse series and loved it. And also the All souls trilogy, another favorite. All these suggestions will definitely keep me busy 5y
wanderinglynn @RvnclawWhovian I‘m always happy to share my favorite books. ☺️ And if you liked Sookie, then read Charlaine Harris‘s Midnight Texas (only 3 books)—it‘s set in the same paranorm world but different location (Texas) & new characters. NBC also made it into a TV show—I watched season 1 & liked it. (edited) 5y

Books Read: 9 + started 2 more
Pages Read: 2,937
Favorite Book: Bellweather Rhapsody
Least Favorite: A Room With A View (but I still liked it so it‘s a worst of the best kind of thing)

The best part was reading books I may not have ever picked up otherwise. Spending a month as @monalyisha was a blast! 👯‍♀️You‘re my bookish sista from another mista... or my mandarin duck twin 🦆I‘m stalking your book choices now! 😘😎

MeganAnn @monalyisha I still have a stack of books I want to read in the coming months! I started White Oleander and am loving it, but the ebook was due back at the library before I could finish and I couldn‘t renew. It‘s on hold so I can finish the second half as soon as it comes in again. I read the first 50 pages of The Interestings and The Raven Boys and decided on The Raven Boys so I intend to continue the other one soon. 6y
MeganAnn I have Glaciers, I Capture the Castle, Weathering, and Bloodroot on my TBR shelf to get to soon as well as Book 3 in the Raven Cycle and after a bit of a break for book clubs, I‘m diving right back into that stack. @monalyisha thank you both for hosting and for pretending to be me!! monalyisha @MeganAnn There are quite a few titles from your list that I didn‘t get to. And I‘m wrapping on #FreakyFriday. I made it through all the new to me books ( except Outlander, which I will definitely finish)! I had so much fun with this “swap” and I even found a few new favorites to recommend the next time we do this. Thanks @Karkar for sharing some of your favorites with me! You have very good taste in books! And Thank you @Clwojick and @monalyisha for hosting!!

Karkar Woo hoo! I need to get all mine finished :) I am still in the middle of two. So much work is getting in the way. :) 6y
Jadams89 I gave you a pretty long list, not to mention the fact that most were the first in a series. 6y

#FreakyFriday status

Didn't finish @PenguinInFlight s list, but I think I'm in good company ?

I would have done better had I not been traveling this last week.

❇ I finished 6 books (1 audio)
❇ I dropped one
❇ and I'm halfway through 2 more (1 audio)

And for the flight tomorrow, where I hope to catch up a bit, I've got "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" in both formats.

THANK YOU @monalyisha @Clwojick for hosting this fun event.

My beautiful #masterpiece 🎭🎨 I'm not even going to make excuses for this drawing. It's beautiful 😂😂😂 Also...the figure on the left is a woman...that is a smudge, not a detached penis...#imnotfixingit

Can you believe April‘s almost over? It‘s time for our last (!) #freakyfridaychallenge.

Draw a picture of something in your current #freakyfriday read. Snap a photo of your “masterpiece.” If you‘re anything like me, you may need to write a description for your creation to be remotely identifiable (😅) OR you can submit it without comment & make your match/other Littens guess!

Open only to pre-registered #freakyfriday participants. Details below.

monalyisha Each challenge completed = one entry into the “hat” for a drawing at the end of this month. One lucky Litten will win a book (your choice!) from my personal Top 25 list. 🙌🏻📚 Good luck! (edited) 6y
MeganAnn Argh I‘m sad I missed this one! 😩 We had such a busy weekend I totally forgot to check for the challenge. 6y

Here‘s my current list of books I‘ve finished for #FreakyFriday so far. @Tiffy_Reads has recommended some stunning books for me, and an awesome variety of genres. As you can see, I‘m hooked on the Woman‘s Murder Club series again. ♥️

How many have you read? How many do you have left? With only a week left in April what‘s the one book you hope to read before April is over?

@monalyisha

Jerdencon I'm hoping to make it to 5 total... not great but life got a little in the way. So far I've liked everything. 6y
Jerdencon And I'm hoping we do this again! It's been fun! 6y
monalyisha Trying to finish “My Lady Jane” before the end of the month! I think it‘s totally doable. And if I could ever finish the freaking never-ending (!!!) “Victoria” audio biography that I started before #freakyfriday commitments had all of my attention, I‘d sneak in “Ready Player One,” too! @MeganAnn 6y

monalyisha @Clwojick I‘d *love* to host again but I think we should wait until you‘re good & married. 😉 (Also, I need a short breather to choose whatever I want to read with no limits, anyway. I have a problem with rules. 😅) 6y
Clwojick @monalyisha I know! Ugh. Wedding planning is so time consuming 😬😂 And I agree with the rules too. Lol. I‘m doing pretty considering, but I have also read and reviewed a handful for #NetGalley this month as well. 6y
monalyisha @Clwojick When‘s your date again? 6y
Clwojick @monalyisha I‘m also hosting two other weeklong readathons in May. Ahahah. Never ending reading events ♥️ 6y
Clwojick @monalyisha September 15th. ♥️♥️♥️ 6y
monalyisha @Clwojick September weddings are great! Good date! Hmm... I wouldn‘t want to do #freakyfriday in October. I need to reserve time for all the spooky reads. 👻 Maybe November, lol. So far away! 6y
Clwojick @monalyisha I think I‘m going to try to read as many of the cozies, supernatural and murder mysteries that I have on my bookshelf in October. I‘m sure I won‘t stay on track with that though. 😂😂 November 1st is my birthday, so I‘ll probably be in the more for some serious reading that month, so that could work. I generally go book crazy after my bday 😅 6y
monalyisha @Clwojick Perfect. That‘ll be the working plan, then. I‘ll need a pick me up by then, anyway, since that‘s when it truly starts getting cold again ‘round these parts. 6y
Clwojick Oooh. I might have to email you. I think it might be fun to switch it up a bit. 😉 6y
Clwojick @monalyisha ⤴️⤴️ 6y
bookandcat @monalyisha @Clwojick do let me know if you do this again, it's been awesome! I only wish there was a way to have a master book recommendation list or spreadsheet of everybody's recommendations for the event, so I can keep reading other people's recs after I've finished the list given to me! 6y
Clwojick @bookandcat I can pass you on my list of recommendations if you like. Not sure if they‘re you‘re style or not, but I‘d be happy to pass it along 6y
bookandcat @Clwojick I'm always up for book recs! 6y
MeganAnn I second @bookandcat - this has been so much fun and I'd love to do it again! Maybe everyone who participated would be willing to do a final post with their recommendations? With the hashtag #freakfridayrecs or something like that so those who are interested could go back and make note of those for future reading. I'm always interested in finding new recommendations from fellow Littens! 😍 @Clwojick @monalyisha Just a thought if you're interested. 6y
bookandcat @MeganAnn that's a great idea! 6y
MeganAnn Also, I've read 7 and have started three more and have four left on my list (plus the next two in the Raven Cycle). I'm hoping to finish The Raven Boys for sure, and possibly the next two books in the series by the end of the month. @monalyisha 6y
dariazeoli This has been so much fun and I‘d love to do it again- later, when I‘ve had a chance to chip away at Mount TBR ☺️ I‘m on track to finish April with 7 and I‘ll be reading the 8th and final book in May! 6y

How‘s everyone doing? Are you enjoying yourselves? Have you found any new favorite books? Have you read anything you‘ve loved to hate? 😉 Have you read more or less than you thought? Are you planning to continue your list in the coming month(s) or are you done once April is?

We‘d love to hear from you! 🖤

I‘ve read fewer titles than anticipated (despite ignoring all my other reading obligations; sorry book clubs! 🙈) & will be reading into May.

corycatelyn I've read 2 so far and have 1 more to read. I didn't have time to get to the other library 🙈 6y
Librarybelle I plan to continue reading into May. I didn‘t read as much as I hoped this month but so plan to continue reading for however long it takes! 6y
See All 43 Comments
monalyisha @corycatelyn @Librarybelle I place the blame squarely upon my husband‘s shoulders — and Law & Order SVU. He‘s become obsessed recently & I find it impossible to focus on a storyline when such a plot-driven, shocking narrative like that is blaring in the background! I keep begging him to go back to watching his video-game live streams. 😅 I found them so blissfully boring! (edited) 6y
Cosyreader I will definitely be reading well into May because I bought so many on the list and have read hardly any! Oops 😂 6y
monalyisha @Amy-Laura I only bought a few but I borrowed approximately one billion from the library. 😅 I know I have to take a short break at the beginning of May to try to squeeze in a couple of real-life book club books (“Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” & “The Assimilated Cuban‘s Guide to Quantum Santeria”) but then I‘ll be right back at it! 6y
Billypar I've read 3.5 so far, which is about what I expected, but less than I would have liked. But I am 3 for 3 as far as the ones I've finished- all were excellent- Atonement may be a favorite (and one I might not have tried had the audio not been available on Overdrive with no wait). The two current ones I'm reading now are also quite good. So it's been a great success for me ☺️ 6y
zezeki I fell behind on my reading plan, as I aways do (sigh), so I'll probably continue reading in May. 6y
monalyisha @Billypar I love that! 🙌🏻 I remember really enjoying “Atonement” when I read it for a college course. 😊 6y
monalyisha @zeljka I know what you mean! The best laid plans... 6y
Laughterhp I‘ve read 6 so far! I‘m going to try and continue into May for a few more of them. 6y
monalyisha @Laughterhp Slayin‘ it! 🖤⚰️ 6y
Cosyreader @monalyisha yep I had to take a break to read a book club read too! I swear these books will be read eventually 😅 6y
Schlinkles I‘ve only read 1, way less than I intended, but had other reading obligations. I‘m just going to extend it until I finish all that I had planned to read. 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf I‘ve read 4 so far which is less than I was hoping. I‘m almost done with another one. It‘s been fun reading books I didn‘t have on my radar. I might continue in May with the once I have bought but I would probably read some other books I‘m eager to read but haven‘t gotten to yet since they weren‘t on the #freakyfriday list. 6y
bookandbedandtea @RainyDayReading I've only read 3 so far, and only 5 for the whole month, which is way low for me. I bought 10, I think, so I'll keep reading them until I get through them all. 6y
sprainedbrain I had 12 from the list of my lovely match @MissAimz_55 that I hadn‘t read, and so far I‘ve read 7 of them, and I‘ve enjoyed them all. 😃 I hope to get to the rest of them before the end of the month (Dewey‘s next weekend should help), but if I don‘t I will be finishing them in May. She has excellent taste, but I think my favorite so far has been (edited) 6y
LapReader Still ploughing through Pillars of the Earth but I love it. Have some audio books I may get a chance to start today on the way home on the bus from my family farm. 6y
TheLibrarian I‘ll be continuing onto May. Life has gotten into my way of reading this month. 6y
MissAimz_55 I'm loving it so far! I am not reading as much as I thought I would because of starting a new job and travels but I've read 4 so far but I'm half way done with 2 more. I'm hoping by end of month I'll have finished 7-8. She gave me quite a few chunksters 😂. I would say my favorite was Attachments bc it introduced me to a new author. Also thanks to @sprainedbrain I have gotten into audio books! 6y
cobwebmoth I've read 4 so far. I wanted to read 8 of them. I have the other books, though, so if I can't finish any more this month, then I can still read them later. I've enjoyed the books that I've finished. 6y
MissAimz_55 And I created a bullet journal layout to track so I'm not stopping in April, going to tackle that #freakyfridaytbr 6y
RachLovesTV I've read 5 and have really liked them all! I'm hoping to read a few more before the end of the month, but the ones I don't get to will definitely stay on my list, so I can pick them off over the coming months. The one that is most likely to stay on my favorites list is definitely 6y
MaleficentBookDragon I haven‘t read as much as I wanted to so far, so I‘m continuing on past April to get at least 5 books from the list . I also think it will take me a while to finish (edited) 6y
Mdargusch I‘ve read 4.5 out of 7. I think I will finish 6 this month. And I love, Love, Love Jane Steele which I‘m not sure if I would‘ve ever gotten around to reading. Thank you @monalyisha and @Clwojick for organizing this. I have really enjoyed it! 6y
monalyisha @LapReader I haven‘t read that one but it definitely looks like a commitment! 6y
monalyisha @irre I know! There are at least 3 more that I want to read from my match‘s list after I finish my current (third) read, but I‘ve also created a list of other non #freakyfriday related books that I‘m itching to get to *as soon* as I can! 6y
monalyisha @MaleficentBookDragon I think 5‘s a totally respectable number! 🙌🏻 6y
monalyisha @Mdargusch Love that you found something you adore! & you‘re welcome. 😊 6y
monalyisha @Schlinkles I definitely thought I‘d read more, too. Just keep plugging along! 👍🏻 You can do it! 6y
monalyisha @bookandbedandtea I‘m only on my third book, too! Slow month for me, as well. 6y
monalyisha @RachLovesTV your enthusiasm for “Dark Matter” makes me want to read it even more than I already did! 6y
monalyisha @cobwebmoth Half‘s not bad! I think I‘ve made it through about half of the titles that I *really* wanted to read, too. 6y
monalyisha @MissAimz_55 Love your organization! 🤗 And Rainbow Rowell is one of my faves! She always gets me out of a book slump. I‘m always looking for readalikes but she‘s an author unto herself. (edited) 6y
monalyisha @TheLibrarian It‘s been an unexpectedly busy month for me, too! 6y
monalyisha @sprainedbrain those are great stats! I wish I could participate in the readathon but I‘m working all day Saturday. 😔 (edited) 6y
Clwojick Though I‘ve been busier than expected this month, So fat I‘ve read 9 novels, and 5 children‘s books that were recommended to me by @Tiffy_Reads ! I‘ve been really enjoying #freakyfriday and I‘ve definitely found a few new favourite authors. ♥️ 6y
RainyDayReading I‘ve only managed to get fully through one book and halfway through 3 others, I‘ve had far less time to read this month than I had hoped 😪 But! I do plan to continue on with my list in the coming month(s) until I get it done. @bookandbedandtea 6y
MeganAnn I‘ve finished 6 books and started 3 more, plus listened to one audiobook this weekend with my family while we were traveling. So far, they‘ve all been good reads that I‘ve really enjoyed and two of them have been added to my own list of favorites! I don‘t think I‘ll finish all 13 on my list, but I definitely plan to continue into May after a short break. @monalyisha has excellent taste and many of these are books I had never heard of before 😍 6y
monalyisha @MeganAnn Are the two you‘re talking about the Gaiman & Hoffman? ✨ 6y
MeganAnn @monalyisha actually it‘s the Hoffman and Belleweather Rhapsody! The Gaiman is almost a favorite, but I can‘t quite put it on that list yet. There‘s a good chance that a reread would put it over the edge though! 6y
monalyisha @MeganAnn Oh, nice! 🙌🏻 6y
RachLovesTV @monalyisha I'm actually a little surprised myself how much I keep thinking about Dark Matter, haha. It's really a unique story and has some great thought-provoking moments. 6y

I‘d probably name my future pet Arsinoe from Three Dark Crowns. She was my favorite of the triplets in that book. It‘s also been my favorite pick so far!

I‘m trying not to cheat and use a Harry Potter character, even though that series was on @jenniferw88 list! It‘s cheating since I already want to name all my pets after HP characters! 🤪

I'm torn between Nahri (from The City of Brass) or Mr Vincent (from Shades of Milk and Honey) for my next cat. I can imagine that Nahri would be ginger but Mr Vincent would be tortieshell as I think these colours match the characters' personalities.
