I did a thing. I ventured out this weekend to see my daughter in Providence. We went to the Athenæum and then to Aleppo Sweets for some Arabic coffee with cardamom and of course some baklava. The Athenæum had a sale so I got 6 books for less than $10!!! No anxiety. It was lovely.

batsy That sounds lovely. Baklava + books 👌🏾 3mo

Cuilin @IndoorDame I recommend. It‘s a beautiful space. Have you been to the library on Nantucket? It reminded me of that. (edited) 3mo
Cuilin @Bklover delightful 🩷 3mo
IndoorDame @Cuilin no. I actually haven‘t been out to Nantucket at all since I was a girl, before I lived in the area. I used to go as a tourist to visit family friends. 3mo

In 1957 my grandpa built the house they are still living in now, at the age of 91. He and Grandma were talking yesterday about the adventure of building their own house and I asked Grandpa how he knew what to do. He replied, "I had a book!" and then pulled this one off the shelf. It's absolutely fascinating and full of details, blueprints, and careful instructions. However, I forgot to ask him if they came in under the $3500 mark.

Jari-chan That's amazing!🤩 13mo
Picking_Books That is amazing! My husband‘s grandfather also built the house they still live in today. Grandpa passed away 2 years ago but Grandma still lives there and she is 94 years old. I don‘t know why I never thought to ask him how he knew how to build it. 13mo
AmyG Wow. That must be fascinating. 13mo

lauraisntwilder That is so cool! My dad built the house I grew up in and we have a really funny picture of him sitting in front of the newly-completed brick fireplace "reading" a book on masonry. ? 13mo
Chelsea.Poole I love this!! 13mo
TheAromaofBooks @Picking_Books - I wonder if their house was built around the same era? The introduction to this book talks about how basically because of the population boom, many young couples were building for themselves instead of waiting for a house to come up for sale. 13mo
TheAromaofBooks @BKlover - Right?? My husband and I have done a lot of remodeling to our house, but I can't imagine trying to do it without watching YouTube videos along the way!! Grandpa's dad and father-in-law both helped him some, but neither of them were builders, either (one was a farmer and the other was a school teacher). My favorite part of the story is them using dynamite to blow out all the tree roots in the way of the basement! 😂 13mo
TheAromaofBooks @lauraisntwilder - That is so fun! I may need to borrow that masonry book, as our chimney is looking a little sketchy 😂 13mo
Picking_Books @TheAromaofBooks Yes it was around the same era. Grandpa came back from World War 2 and married grandma and built the house. That is so interesting! 13mo
Bklover Can you imagine if you tried to use dynamite now?!!!! @TheAromaofBooks 13mo

January 1 #JanuaryJazz Out with the old. I love old houses, they make beautiful photos all year round. This one is still up, and close to it is a brand new barn. Which I try to not include in the photos. @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

My little overflow bookcase arrived. It nestled nicely in front of my fireplace, but it clearly isn‘t big enough. 😭😭 I will be doing some culling soon, donating books I know I will never read or that I won‘t finish/didn‘t enjoy. I have to make room for a Small Business Saturday book haul, right? The more I look at it, the more I think I may make it an art piece by doing those rainbow shelves I keep seeing. I could do that for just these.

Honestly, I skimmed through this book while my family was shopping in Target. I did enjoy the art style throughout the book and the definitions of the different styles of homes. I think this would be a nice coffee table book… I might be a little biased because my mom watches the Gaines‘ on HGTV frequently. 😂

Thanks for the tag @pip2 !

1. Yes, I love to fill up random spots in my house with stacked books. One is the tagged book. It looks nice but is funny because my “home“ is crumbling down around it. Need to get moving on some home projects!

2. TV...particularly episodes of shows like Sex and the City, Gilmore Girls and The Office. All of these I've watched today while I'm home sick. Now back to my book.

A book came today … The Home Edit is exactly what I need for a little extra motivation for the purge! 😁 this is a full color extravaganza of purely satisfying organization ❣️❣️❣️Do you have any books on downsizing or purging that you‘d recommend?

BookBelle84 I'm a big supporter of Marie Kondos Magic of Tidying up. Has made a definite difference in my home and how I look at new purchases 2y
Twainy @BookBelle84 I completely agree with you! I loved Alonso‘s audiobook! She has some great ideas!! 2y
