X-Men vs. Hulk | Doug Moench, Roger Stern, Christos Gage, Chris Claremont, Marc Sumerak
post image
Mehso-so

This is a mixed collection of the times the X-Men (in various line-ups) have fought the Hulk. By its nature it‘s thus very big on HULK SMASH rather than interesting storylines. It is interesting seeing the evolution of Marvel house style (devolution, technically, as they start with a recent run then go back into earlier ones).

I‘ve at least solved my #LitsyAtoZ #LetterX for the foreseeable though as there are several other x-Men vs ... titles.

A nice cozy mystery centered around a treasure hunt in Moosetookalook, ME. Only have one more book to go to finish my #litsyatoz challenge. #letterX @BookishMarginalia

Second-to-last Kinsey Millhone story. If you like your female detectives to solve crimes with old school methods, she‘s your girl. She is a bit cranky, mostly introverted, and takes a morning jog only out of necessity. This time, she sticks her neck into a few places it doesn‘t really belong. Definitely better than the last two books, which were disappointing.

BarbaraTheBibliophage @BookishMarginalia, would you mind posting a link to the A to Z challenge? I didn‘t sign up, but just finished it. So I‘d like to fill out a form! Thanks. 🤪📚😘 3mo
AlaMich I didn‘t like it when Grafton began the storyline that brought in Kinsey‘s family. 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @AlaMich Thankfully, this one had none of that! 3mo

Gissy Wow but that is from a loooong series!😳Do you have to read it in order? 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gissy I have read them in order. Very very slowly, since she was still writing them during this time. I think I‘ve listened to more on audio than read the books. My first was back in the early 1990s. 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gissy If you were going to start them, I think it does make sense to read them in order. They all happen over a relatively short time (just a few years) in the late 1980s. 3mo
Gissy @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thank you! I will start with the first one then to see how I like it. 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gissy Hope you do! 3mo

I intended to read this for my #letterX in last year‘s #litsyatoz but ended up with another book. Almost ditched again this year, but I really want to finish the series. Plus I love #Kinsey and her town.

IamIamIam I got up to letter J or K but my library doesn't have any more on audio! 😫 The narrator is perfect and, even though it's the same stories, they don't follow as easily for me in print! I miss Kinsey! Lol 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @IamIamIam I‘ve mostly listened to them also. But it‘s hard to get these more recent audios for free (library or Scribd). I grabbed this for $2 at a book sale. I‘ll just imagine Judy Kaye‘s voice in my head ... 3mo

I need X and Y recommendations for my A to Z challenge!

Texreader Look for the following tags #letterX and #letterY. Lots of great suggestions there. I used XPD for x, a Cold War thriller. It was long and tough to get through, but I made it! And it was ok. I also bought Sue Grafton‘s X book I‘ll save for next year. I‘ve never read her books so it‘ll be a first (edited) 4mo
Texreader For y I chose a free ebook I downloaded called You Can‘t Make Old Friends. First in a series and I liked it well enough I‘d read the next book. It should be an easier letter for which to find books. 4mo

The end of the alphabet is tough! Any suggestions? #atozreadingchallenge
X? Y? Z?

Soubhiville For Y, anything with You as the first word in the title. Other than that, maybe try searching for letter hashtags: #letterx. Good luck! X and Z are tough! 4mo
laur89 Try books by Sue Grafton! 4mo

Megabooks Those are the ones I used for X and Z the year I did it. Zevin also wrote Young Jane Young, which would work for either. 😉 (edited) 4mo

This is a dense book packed with characters representing different countries that are all trying to get their hands on the “Hitler Papers,” describing Winston Churchill‘s negotiations to surrender to Hitler. It was a slow read trying to keep a grip on the intertwining nature of spies undermining spies to be the first to the prize, much less keeping track of the “bad” guys. A good but taxing read. 3-1/2 stars #letterX #litsyatoz

GingerAntics Churchill was going to surrender to Hitler? That doesn‘t sound right. Clearly I‘ve missed something. 4mo
Texreader @GingerAntics A bit of revisionist history, right? The Brits want the papers to destroy them to keep a clean reputation; the Soviets want them to undermine the Brits. The US players want them for their $ value. The Germans, not really clear as to their reasons. It was written in the 1970s, deep in the Cold War and very much reflecting that fact. 4mo
GingerAntics Hm. Sounds interesting. Although, your review makes me think the execution could use some work. 4mo
Texreader @GingerAntics Yes it could. It was good but I may have bailed were it not for #litsyatoz and the struggle to find X books. 4mo
GingerAntics Yeah, that‘s probably a rather hard letter to find a book for. 4mo

Ugh. These watercolour illustrations ♥️ This was the ONLY #picturebook that I found for #LetterX (and my last letter for #A2Z), but it did not disappoint! With a lesson on including everyone and not leaving anyone out, this story is sure to be a popular one amongst classrooms. #BBRC @LibrarianRyan #picturebook

4thhouseontheleft I'm using the same one for X! I wonder if another one exists? 5mo
Sarahreadstoomuch I read this one for x too!! 5mo

Of all the books I've read, especially sci-fi, I've never read anything quite like this amazing trilogy. Butler was far ahead of her time and she weaves a fantastic world that leaves the reader a bit uncomfortable, but questioning, of their own morality and values.

This definitely makes me curious of other works by Butler. She's a badass. 😁
