#poetrymonth the somewhat forgotten modernist . He was an admirer of T.S.Eliot , Crane had the most exacting standards for his poetry, he had limited success in his lifetime. He was known as a wild man among his writing friends, he would go on wild drinking & sex benders,& sadly committed suicide jumping from a ship into the Gulf of Mexico at the age of 32.His reputation climbed after his death. One of those times when genius is close to madness.

His stupendous heart intact,
His gargantuan will
Hale and hearty.

He had not been crippled by brutes
Nor was his passion for the rights
Of human beings
Diminished by twenty-seven years of imprisonment.

#poetrymonth often mocked & a subject of parody, I still love it for its simplicity. Always makes me smile.

#poetrymonth Couldn‘t let the month go by without mentioning Ms.Sexton , who‘s poems I adore.Her daughter wrote a stunning book about her mother and was kind enough sign it for me. Genius, struggle, & complexity lives in her poetry.She came to poetry later than some, and was often underestimated because of it.If you love Plath & haven‘t read Sexton, you should give her a try . Their paths crossed occasionally.
