Bk2 of May is done. I‘m really hoping this means my mojo is coming back, but I‘ve prob just jinxed it! The 1st in a YA duology by a BIPOC author, it features an LGBTQ+ & BIPOC cast in a mythology/magical retelling of the Medea story involving poison gardens & earth magic. I loved it so much I‘m already halfway through the sequel. #BookspinBingo #Doublespin #FourFoursIn23 #NoBuy2023Bingo #ReadingTheUSA #NewYork #Pantone2023 #ReadySetRead

My first book of May is done! What a crap month it‘s been. Thank god Hubbys home & ok, though he was bloody lucky. Finally got my mind settled enough to read a book & it was amazing! Such a beautiful “found family” story, I really hope she writes a sequel like she did with Garden Spells, these characters are too lovely to let go🩵 #BookspinBingo #Bookspin #Booked2023 #FeaturingNeighbours #ReadingTheUSA #SouthCarolina #ReadySetRead #52BookClubRC

I would definitely have hung out with Phuc and his friends. I was also a skateboarder and into punk rock, heavy metal, and alternative music. And I of course also loved reading.

I appreciate his arguments with his parents and society about racism and misogyny. It was tough reading about his dad‘s abusiveness though.

I definitely recommend this on audio, read by the author.

I chose this one for #readingtheusa #pennsylvania.

AmyG Misfits are the most interesting people. 4y
Catsandbooks I enjoyed this one too! 4y

JamieArc I‘m currently halfway through the audio ans really like it. Sadly, Phuc would have been too cool for me, but I would have had a big crush on him. 4y
Megabooks Totally agree! This is a fantastic memoir. 4y
SamAnne I loved this one. And was reading at the same time as The Honey Bus for a book club. Everyone in our club liked it except for another close friend who, like me, thought the 4y

Things You Save in a Fire | Katherine Center
post image
Pickpick

My first Katherine Center novel, and I really enjoyed it! Cassie is a female firefighter, and in a historically male-dominated field, she gets a lot of shit. This is the type of contemporary novel I like, with strong female characters and interesting underlying themes. In this case, sexism, family relationships, forgiveness, and learning how to move on from trauma.

Look what‘s just arrived @BarbaraBB - what a lovely surprise! 😘 You are a wonderful Litten!

I really enjoyed my first Ann Rule, and I was also struggling to find a book for #delaware for the #ReadingtheUSA challenge, so this is just perfect.
