The Shadow Land: A Novel | Elizabeth Kostova

I loved this book! The author writes so lyrically and detailed that I felt I could sense everything the characters did. I'm a sucker for anything taking place in an Eastern European country, as I had lived in Prague for a few months when I was a kid, and this book transported me back there. The interweaving stories, the slow-burner thrill, the odes to Vivaldi, the landscape of Bulgaria, all made for an excellent novel. 4.5🌟 #stockphoto

brennahawleycraig Oh good!! I love her but have been a bit scared to read it because people all were comparing to The Historian, which is so fabulous. 7y
lauralovesbooks1 I need to bump this one up in my stack! 7y
Lynnsoprano @brennahawleycraig The comparisons are unfair, because it's a very different book. I loved it, too. 7y

A very heartbreaking look at the way opiates have affected the lives of so many people, whether users, family members of users, doctors, dealers, cops, etc. It also takes a look at the overwhelming destruction on small-town America. There are some issues with the anecdotal chapters, but I would still give this 4🌟 #stockphoto

Hooked_on_books This book is so good and so informative. It is very necessary. 8y

Me, after spending the last 2.5 hours finally cataloging all the books in my personal library and on my kindle. Thanks to BookBuddy app for the ability to document all I have. But I still have 3 boxes yet to arrive from New York. It never stops! #DamnitLitsy #exhausted #stockphoto

tpixie Wow. Good work !!! 🎉📚🎉 8y
BookBabe 😂😂😂👌🏻 Awesome! I've been wanting to do that. I started entering a few into Libib. 🙌🏻 8y
Alisnazzy @BookBabe it's time consuming but it's so worth it. Now if I go to a bookstore or anywhere that has books really, I can make a quick check to make sure I don't buy a duplicate. 8y

minkyb Nice! 8y
Kimzey Impressive! 😀👍🏼 8y
ApoptyGina69 I really had fun with it when I did it 10+ years ago on LibraryThing. I used to add when I bought, but now I add when I read. Not the best strategy for avoiding duplicates, but hey, it's a ready-made gift! 8y
MemoirsForMe Way to go! I need to do that...🤓📚 8y
quirkyreader I gave up cataloguing a long time ago. Now I just keep track of what I have read. And if I'm not sure on a tittle I pass on it till I know what's at home. Too many dupes take up space for other things. 🐸🐙 8y
DiruVamp I've been looking for a better way to catalog my books for awhile now and I didn't know about BookBuddy!! Already downloaded the free version because it sounds EXACTLY like I've been looking for! What's the difference between the free and the Pro version? Thank you so much for mentioning this I am super excited to start using it! 👏🏻🎉📚🤓 8y
Alisnazzy @DiruVamp the free version only allows a certain amount of books. It's $4.99 to upgrade. I felt it was worth it. I was also able to add a category for books I have on my kindle because I feel like I don't remember those as much or that I may end up wanting a physical copy of them. You can also tag a book as loaned out to a friend to keep track of those books too. It's pretty sweet 8y
GlitteryOtters OMG, impressive (and inspiring)! 👏👏 New goal for me for 2017: get my book collection catalogued, too. I am in desperate need of this too. 8y
DiruVamp @Ambrosnazzy oh gotcha I will definitely need to upgrade! Meanwhile I am siting at my desk at work creating tags and categories instead of working 😳🤓 this is going to be fun! 8y
jveezer Check out Librarything too. I think the free version is 1000 books. The iPhone app lets you scan barcodes to quickly add books to your library. There is a vibrant book community there. In there as jveezer. 8y
jveezer Edit: I'm in there as user jveezer 8y

I've been in the worst reading rut, but this was my current audiobook loan and during drives and walks, at least I was ok listening. I really really enjoyed this. Great writing, great plot, enjoyable characters. 4.5🌟#stockphoto

LeahBergen SUCH a fun series! ❤️ 8y

The only #shortstories collection of HM that I haven't yet read. I shall rectify that soon enough #Booktober #MurakamiCultMember #stockphoto

Lacythebookworm Oh, I haven't read that one either! Added! 8y
Spiderfelt Me neither. I can only imagine what Murakami does to the short story. 8y

I'm not usually a fan of short stories, but in true HM fashion, I loved this collection. Absurdity, jazz, Japanese culture ✔️✔️✔️ 4.5🌟 #stockphoto

Fantastic! Such a slow burn with twists I definitely didn't see coming. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just recommend this novel to everyone. 4.5🌟 #stockphoto

Beckys_Books Just snagged this from the library on Friday. 8y
Nuwanda Trying to figure out if this is good scary October reading or if I should save it until November. Thoughts? 8y
Alisnazzy @Nuwanda it's not scary. If you want scary books for October than I would hold off on this one until November 😊 8y
Nuwanda Thank you! I had seen a couple reviews calling it suspenseful, but I didn't know if that implied scary or just mysterious. 8y

It's a chilly, rainy, breezy day. And I want nothing more than to stay under the covers and read. Little man is out with grandma, so that's precisely what I shall be doing for the time being ☺️☕️ #stockphoto

RealLifeReading Hooray for grandmas!! My mum flew back to Singapore yesterday after two months w us so we are still adjusting.. 😢 8y
Amandajoy Rainy weekends are the perfect excuse to stay inside & read! We were supposed to have one here, but it didn't happen. Guess I'll read anyway! 😉📚 8y

Warning: be careful listening to this audiobook while driving; you could easily find your nervous self speeding! 😱 an exciting novel with a great premise that is very well executed. Can be a bit confusing at times, but i still give it 4🌟#stockphoto

DGRachel I think audiobooks should come with drivability ratings. Green: no worries, listen away. Yellow: may cause distraction in the form of tears or laughter or random screams. Red: do not drive or operate machinery while listening. Novel may be devastating to the sensitive listener. Or something like that...😂 8y
Alisnazzy @DGRachel YESSS! Novel may make listener feel like they're being chased by beings intent on killing or kidnapping you. There are a few novels that would fall under the above that would definitely cause me to have a lead foot 😂 8y
Amandajoy I think that could be an excuse the cop doesn't often hear. 8y

Hear the Wind Sing is the debut novel of Haruki Murakami. Often paired with the follow-up to it, Pinball, it's a taste of HM's magical realism. While definitely not as good as his later works, if it hadn't been for Wind/Pinball, those later works may never have made it to paper. #debutnovel #booktober #MurakamiCultMember #stockphoto
