Swing Time | Zadie Smith
Mehso-so

I struggled with this book; it took me nearly two months to finish it. No resolutions at the end. Still, I enjoyed Smith's writing and will give her another try.

This is required reading! A timely look at racism and the Black Lives Matter movement, this book is not afraid to explore society's problems. I learned a lot, but I also enjoyed stepping into Starr's world and seeing her family and friends. This book has moments that are hard to read, but it is also filled with humor, heart, and hope. Pick it up. #LRC3 #womanofcolorauthor

[DELETED] 1409720085 I'm reading it right now and loving it! 7y

I have finally finished a print book for the first time in days! Yay. This is the 2nd book in The Broken Earth trilogy & whilst not quite as compelling as the 1st, it was still a great read. Can't wait for the 3rd book which will be here in May I think. This is my J book for #LitsyAtoZ & my #womanofcolorauthor #LRC3 For my #LitsyReadingChallenge On to the next! Hopefully?!

Lindy Glad to hear you are back into your reading groove. 👍 7y

The world building and creativity of N.K. Jemisin' stories is amazing! This book describes a horrible but fascinating world with truly interesting and diverse characters. From the beginning I was intrigued by the different perspectives and enjoyed figuring out how they connected. As I read the last page I was also thankful I'd already put in a hold request for the sequel.

I'm hopeful that this thought from Mary Jackson remains true! This is just one of many passages I highlighted, because the book is filled with great information. So much more detail than the movie, which I also enjoyed. This is one case where I'm glad I saw the movie first. The movie is definitely historical fiction. The book does a great job of highlighting each of the African-American women's achievements.

Another Brooklyn: A Novel | Jacqueline Woodson

A beautiful story with very poetic, flowing language. The author did a great job of pulling me right into 1970s Brooklyn and learning what it was like growing up during that time.

A very fast read as well! Only 170 pages.

Took a sick/personal day. Let's see if I can finish this before I have to start running errands! This is the start of my #diversereads for the month, and my pick for #womanofcolorauthor for the #LitsyReadingChallenge! #LRC3

Hazel0303 I really feel like I missed the boat on this one. I read it in August and remember about 2% of it and that's a stretch. I know it's a very short book, by I just didn't understand the hype with this. 7y
gossamerchild I think for me it is mostly her writing style. She's very lyrical. 7y

I thought I was reading a TFIOS ripoff and I wasn't. Carla drove me crazy, but otherwise it was good.

Just finished Behold the Dreamers for #LRC3 #womanofcolorauthor. I liked it a lot but thought it dragged in the middle--though I took a break while reading it so I can't quite be sure. #litsyreadingchallenge (not my 📷 btw)

Sharpeipup I felt the same way about this book. It took off pretty good but then crawled a bit in the middle. 7y
