It‘s not as morbid as it sounds. I am not sure that this is a typical Litsy read. But sometimes I have to get into my deep reading.

"When someone has a strong opinion about something, it usually says more about *them* than whatever or whomever the opinion happens to be about. This is especially true when it comes to resentment and hatred of other people."

My family has been reading one entry from this book each day as part of our bedtime routine (my youngest is 16, and we still make a point of touching base at bedtime). Some are meh; others really hit the mark.

BkClubCare Your family idea here sounds wonderful. 💡 🌟 3mo
AmyG Yes, what a wonderful family thing to do. 3mo
lil1inblue What a fantastic tradition! 😍😍😍 I love the excerpt you shared. 💫 3mo
nanuska_153 Oh I didn't realise I was a Stoic, but there it is. I never waste much energy into hating people or people who hate me 3mo

I feel like I‘ve had to keep reminding myself not to suppress my emotions lately. I wanna encourage everyone to sit with their emotions today. Good & bad because those thoughts make up who we are. 💪

Pickpick

I started this about 9 months ago; been reading through it slowly. It‘s not a work to consume so much as something to snack on. On a day when you‘re feeling the need for something less hollow than a positive affirmation, this is a good one to pick up. It‘s clear that Aurelius was an introspective man, & his insights into himself has helped me many a day when I have found myself questioning my actions & purpose.

Also really love this edition.

My family (spouse, kids, me) have been meeting up every evening for nearly 15 years to each share 1 thing we're grateful for, 1 thing we're sorry about, and 1 thing we intend for the next day. Recently we've added 1 thing we learned that day and an excerpt from the tagged. It's been helping all of us to reflect, like the Stoics, on what is in our control vs what isn't and to try to put our energy into the former.

GingerAntics This book has been sitting on my TBR for over a year. Maybe it‘s time to take this bad boy for a spin. We could all use a little grounding and focusing in these trying times. 5mo
ImperfectCJ @GingerAntics Some days the commentary on the passages is better than others, but it always prompts good discussions among our little family, especially when we disagree with the author's interpretation. Now we all want to read more Seneca and Marcus Aurelius. 5mo
GingerAntics @ImperfectCJ I have a few Seneca books in my Apple Books library. I haven‘t read them, but they‘re there. 5mo
Chrissyreadit I have this book- and like it! 5mo
