Like the title says, this is one thing after another, making the overall plot a bit thin. But they're entertaining things (a bit tragic sonetimes) and I'm looking forward to read the rest of the series.

Every ten years, the six most talented magic users are recruited by the Alexadrian Society for very secret academic work.

Interesting story, compelling characters and a surprise twist before the cliffhanger ending (I thought this was a stand alone 🤷‍♀️).

Another fave Christie book. This one is a departure from the usual formula: there's only one murder 🫨, it focuses on the alleged killer's psychology and ends it a good bit of courtroom drama.

A bit of dark fantasy. This book follows people whose land has been invaded and now have to decide if they'll forge a new path ahead, or get stuck trying to get revenge for their people. Interesting read, with a sweet romance woved in.

I'm really enjoying this series, despite the very meandering plots and the romance being a bit iffy. But the worldbuilding is cool, and there's a cool magic house and time traveling 🤷‍♀️

This was such a nice read! You'd think a book dealing with a pandemic and the post-apocaliptic world after woyld be grim, but the story focuses instead in the random connections people make and how small acts of kindness can reverberate throug peoples' lives.

Yes, there's some dark stuff going on, but it's not the point or the focus of the story.

Another new favourite!

Harry August keeps reliving his own life, but now the end of the world is coming.

I love the worldbuilding, especially the secret society of sort-of time travelers and all their traditions and customs. It also gets really tense in the end, in the best way.

I really dropped the ball on the Reading Africa challenge, but I did found a new author.

Paulina Chiziane is from Mozambique and a Camões prize winner. The book I read is not the tagged one, but it's about a mother and daughter and their lives between the colonial period and post independence.

This one is a bit different from most Agatha Christie works - more a psichological thriller than a straightforward mistery - but is still one of her best.

I've been re-reading Christie's books and there were a lot of good ones this year.

Death on the Nile is my favorite. I love the central love triangle and how long Christie takes establishing the characters and the relationships before getting to the murder.

This is the first book from Jorge Amado I read, and I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did.

It follows a year in a brazilian city in the cusp of modernity, with a focus on the love story between newly arrived Gabriela and Nacib, which is, honestly, so lovely.

This is book two in the Invisible Library series and it's nice to be back in this world. The plot is easy to follow, we get to see more of the Fae (which make fun antagonists) and I love the charaters, especially MC Irene, and how very competent they all are. All in all, the book is a good romp.
