Having fun with this gang 🤩
Finishing #adventrecommends with my favorite book this year. Harrow the Ninth is a total mindfuck and so entertaining and funny 🤩
Like the title says, this is one thing after another, making the overall plot a bit thin. But they're entertaining things (a bit tragic sonetimes) and I'm looking forward to read the rest of the series.
#adventrecommends
Every ten years, the six most talented magic users are recruited by the Alexadrian Society for very secret academic work.
Interesting story, compelling characters and a surprise twist before the cliffhanger ending (I thought this was a stand alone 🤷♀️).
#adventrecommends
Another fave Christie book. This one is a departure from the usual formula: there's only one murder 🫨, it focuses on the alleged killer's psychology and ends it a good bit of courtroom drama.
#adventrecommends
A bit of dark fantasy. This book follows people whose land has been invaded and now have to decide if they'll forge a new path ahead, or get stuck trying to get revenge for their people. Interesting read, with a sweet romance woved in.
#adventrecommends
I'm really enjoying this series, despite the very meandering plots and the romance being a bit iffy. But the worldbuilding is cool, and there's a cool magic house and time traveling 🤷♀️

I also started a Discworld re-read this year and Mort is my favourite of the ones I read so far.
#adventrecommends
This was such a nice read! You'd think a book dealing with a pandemic and the post-apocaliptic world after woyld be grim, but the story focuses instead in the random connections people make and how small acts of kindness can reverberate throug peoples' lives.
Yes, there's some dark stuff going on, but it's not the point or the focus of the story.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
Another new favourite!
Harry August keeps reliving his own life, but now the end of the world is coming.
I love the worldbuilding, especially the secret society of sort-of time travelers and all their traditions and customs. It also gets really tense in the end, in the best way.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
I really dropped the ball on the Reading Africa challenge, but I did found a new author.
Paulina Chiziane is from Mozambique and a Camões prize winner. The book I read is not the tagged one, but it's about a mother and daughter and their lives between the colonial period and post independence.
Two for one today ?
Patient Zero is an overview of infectious diseases through history and Quackery is about their "cures" ?
They're bith very informative and easy to read.
#adventrecommends
This one is a bit different from most Agatha Christie works - more a psichological thriller than a straightforward mistery - but is still one of her best.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
I'm a big fan of Tessa Dare, she writes really fun, really sexy romances, and this one is one of her best.
#adventrecommends
I followed along with Dracula Dayly and it was a fun way to get trhough this book.
#adventrecommends
Soulless is the first volume in the Parasol Protectorate, a steampunk series with vampires, werewolves and a protagonist who is neither, but is extremely capable to defend herself with a parasol.
#adventrecommends
I've been re-reading Christie's books and there were a lot of good ones this year.
Death on the Nile is my favorite. I love the central love triangle and how long Christie takes establishing the characters and the relationships before getting to the murder.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
Firts book I read this year, a collection of African fairy tales.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
This is the first book from Jorge Amado I read, and I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did.
It follows a year in a brazilian city in the cusp of modernity, with a focus on the love story between newly arrived Gabriela and Nacib, which is, honestly, so lovely.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
I read the first two books of the Invisible Library this year and they're really fun. There's a magical library, alternate wotlds, heists, dragons and fae. What's not to love?
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
"I love you. I love you. I love you. I'll write it in waves. In skies. In my heart. You'll never see, but you will know. I'll be all the poets, I'll kill them all and take each one's place in turn, and every time love's written in all the strands it will be to you."
(If you're interested in sapphic, spy enemies to lovers, epistolary romance, with a dash of time travel, this is the book for you.)
I started the Brother Cadfael series this year and I've really enjoyed the first three books. Cadfael is a monk, but also a thoughtful and kind detective, and the books offer a good look into life in medieval England and Wales.
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
Starting the month with my favorite re-read of the year. The Silmarillion is an all time favourite of mine. I know some people have trouble getting into it, but I just love all the mithology and epicness and elves 🤷♀️
#adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
This is book two in the Invisible Library series and it's nice to be back in this world. The plot is easy to follow, we get to see more of the Fae (which make fun antagonists) and I love the charaters, especially MC Irene, and how very competent they all are. All in all, the book is a good romp.
Almost forgot to post points...

Managed to get one last book before midnight. The writing was a bit so-so and the characters weren't always well drawed, but I liked the worldbuilding and I want to see where the series goes next.
Neither of tjose things go very well 🤷♀️

I've been having a lot of fun rereading the Discworld books. Death decides to take in an apprentice and tries to figure out what it means to be human. Neither of tjose things go very well 🤷♀️

I really enjoy Anne Rice's writing, she makes it very atmospheric and grand. And Lestat is very fun and reckless (and has a weird thing going on with his mom...)

Been wanting to reread this for a while
#scarathlondailyprompts #teamslaughter #scarathlon2022
"In the myriadic year of our Lord - the ten thousandth year of the King Undying, the kindly Prince of Death! - Gideon Nav packed her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and she escaped from the House of the Ninth."
Lots of skeletons AND skeleton monsters in this one!

Read 2 books and one short story collection this week, for a total of 12 hours.
#teamslaughter #scarathlon2022 @Clwojick
Not a very good pic, but I finished the maze in #promptmaze 😊
@TheAromaofBooks
Charming mistery with a gay vampire writer who moves to a small english village and immediately encounters a murder, as you do 😋

The only orange book in my tbr. I have no idea what it is about - it came on an Illumicrate box - but It's gorgeous, isn't it?
#scarathlondailyprompts #teamslaughter #scarathlon2022 @Clwojick
This was a nice collection of short stories. Miss Marple is one of my favourite characters and it was fun to see her in a bunch of new situatuons.
My favourite stories were the ones by Ruth Ware and Karen McManus.

The book was up to a nice start, and then the narrator brought up The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and I thought "Oh, this is gonna be good?"

I'm enjoying the series, despite the very meadering plot. There's a lot of good witch content in the second volume.
#scarathlon2022 #scarathlondailyprompts #teamslaughter
So, this deals with darker themes than what I usually read, and it was very stressful, because the bad guy was really awful and in control of the story for much of the book, but I had a hard time putting it down.

(Grave is just another word for tomb, right?)
I really loved this book. There's a lot of weird stuff going on, with altered memories and POV switches, but I found it all very enjoyable. Harrow is not as funny as Gideon, but she's smart and comes up with the best murder plots 🤗
#scarathlon2022 #scarathlondailyprompts #teamslaughter @Clwojick #bookspinbingo #promptmaze @TheAromaofBooks #spookoween @TheSpineView #31by31 @Catsandbooks
I'm off work the next week, and have no plans besides sleepong, so I'm going to set a goal to finish 4 books 🤞
#outstandingoctober @Andrew
Outside, wind rattled the wooden chimes in warning.
#firstlinefridays
This is another favorite Christie (although, a big part is that I watched the Suchet adaptation first and I really liked the actress playing Elinor 🤷♀️) Elinor is a great character and I really like how a very straightforward crime is slowly revealed to be anything but.
Third book read for #scarathlon2022 #teamslaughter #scarathlondailyprompts @Clwojick #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks #promptmaze #spookoween @TheSpineView
First week of #scarathlon2022: two books, 15 hours and lots of words from the word search 😎

Italian Witches and a pact with the devil 🤩 The first chapters have been quite fun.

My first Discworld book and still my favourite😘😍
