The Last Letter | Rebecca Yarros

If ever there‘s a book I could get lost in and connect with so much, it‘s this. I was told this would be emotional but I wasn‘t expecting to feel so much. I wept the last 50 pages and will definitely have an emotional hangover tomorrow. Rebecca Yarros writes in a way that I felt the characters inside me. All of them. Ella. Ryan. Chaos. Beckett. Maise. Colt. I felt a part of each of them as I uncovered their story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Written in verse poetry, we learn how she uses her voice to uplift and advocate for women and men who need to let their own stories be heard. My very favorite moment of her story is when we learn why she writes and why she writes for teens “...I wrote for the kids who didn‘t have those people [supportive adults]/children with scars....celebrated writing for the kids/the world doesn‘t want to see”. She speaks, so we can shout.

I was so excited for her new book and heard she tried to introduce more of a thriller genre in this book.
I kinda had the twist figured out but I wasn‘t sure how it would transpire. But then it did transpire....only to have yet another plot twist. The kind that you wonder “what just happened?”. Totally thrilling, romantic, dealing with emotions...taking her writing to a new level. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 STAR perfection!

written to bring attention to stereotypes, love, what it all means, and how to learn to give second chances. Set in 2002, Shirin, 16-year-old and Muslim, navigates the world post 9/11. She learns to block out the hate in her white privileged towns and schools, until she meets Ocean. Ocean, Shirin, their families, and peers, learn from each other, about appearances, stereotypes, and not caring about what others think.

So many layers to this tale, yet every single POV and conflict mold together for this fast-paced heart-wrenching book. Brought together due to poor teenage choices, Nina, Lyla, and Tom manage to work together to save each other and others along the way.

Nope. Didn‘t see that end coming AT ALL! This story of a missing baby examines the mystery of “where is Baby Midas?” along with the pressures of motherhood. I really like this book because of the mystery and thriller genre but also because of the analysis of motherhood and striving to be “the perfect mother” as society pressures females to be.

I was quite hesitant to start reading this series. I‘m so glad I did! A little Hunger Games, and a little The Bachelor for Edge-of-your-seat dystopian romantic fiction. The issues that Cass introduces in The Selection series aren‘t lighthearted and clearly well developed to reflect the 21st century society.

I‘m a high school English teacher and the Selected series was suggested by the teenagers. I didn‘t really want to read it...but with some reluctance, I started in on book 1. Finished book one over the weekend. Moved on to something else and have literally been thinking about America and Maxon like they‘re my friends....so book #2 can wait no longer! 👑👑👑

Between a pick and a so-so. It was slow at times but really makes you think about what‘s going on inside other people‘s houses. Not everything is as it seems... Waxman included some tough topics—body image, breast cancer, infidelity, and intertwined the serious topics with wit and sarcasm, making the Protagonist, Frances, seem real. I just want her to be my bestie! 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cinfhen For heavy topics it felt light and I enjoyed her writing!!!! 7y

1985. Ava is interviewing her grandmother about “how she became the woman she is today.” The American born daughter of Jewish Russian immigrants; the only daughter born in America. With interjections to remind us Addie is being interviewed by her granddaughter, it feels as if the reader is witnessing the interview. A historical fiction story of a woman fighting for all women when females we‘re quite so empowered and independent.

More Simon!!!
Leah is not your stereotypical teenage girl in her suburban town. She beats to her own drum (she what I did there?) and just wants things to be as low key as possible, except for her sexuality. That is something she knows for sure, even though it‘s still a secret, even to Simon! Read Leah on the Offbeat for more coming of age drama about relationships, friendships, sexuality, and college decisions.

I almost stopped reading at the beginning because I thought this book was only about Hockey. While the story was driven by hockey, the book wasn‘t *actually* about hockey. We start out reading “...the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barreled shotgun....” kept waiting for that moment and it happens for a reason that unfolds in the almost 400 pages before it. Beautifully written. This one will stick with me.

You guys. This was a punch in the gut, ugly cry book. It‘s raw and realistic from the perspective of a 6-year-old who survived a school shooting with fatalities. The writing is beautifully written considering the age of the narrator, random thoughts of a 6-year-old and all. I do think some of the actions and thoughts of the boy are slightly unbelievable but most were true to the narrator‘s development. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
