Our breathing is like a storm, my heart the thunder.
Ch. XXI
This book basically picks up years after the conclusion of The Forest of Hands and Teeth. It follows Gabry and a few others as they try to survive after a Breaker attack. Along the way, Gabry begins to discover that her entire life is basically a lie.
I‘m conflicted about this book. I like the world and enjoyed the plot twists/suspense, but the love triangle was really annoying. It was hard to look past to really enjoy the story.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I heard so many good things about this book I had to get my hands on it. 60 pages in and I‘m already in love! Definitely worth the hype!
I‘m not much of a sci-fi reader, but I‘ve had my eye on this book for quite some time. There‘re aliens, self-discovery, and race relations. The story & main character, Binti, definitely kept me wanting more; however, the ending was too easy, which makes me wonder if it will be addressed in later books. Other than that, I loved the story and how the author incorporated Black issues and history and I look forward to reading more.

I definitely enjoyed this book! If you like undercover resistance organizations, f/f romance, and real world issues, this is your book. Immigration/human rights play a huge role and it‘s also own voices, written by a Latinx author. It‘s beautifully written and has some really powerful one-liners throughout that make you miss home and the safety it brings.

Current read: We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia
I‘ve been waiting since August to read this book! The story takes place on an island where only a portion of the island prospers. The main character, Dani, is trained to fulfill one of two important positions within society, but when her upbringing starts to catch up with her, she has an important decision to make: join the resistance to free Medio or participate in the abuses of society
I finished WoR on the last day of the year and, holy storms, it was wild from start to finish! This book focused a lot more on Shallan‘s past and how she came to be the person she is and gave more insight to the Parshendi‘s intentions. Definitely one of my favorite Branderson books. I can‘t wait until I get my hands on the third book of the Stormlight Archive, Oathbringer!

Guys, I reorganized so well that I actually have space on my shelves. Guess I have to buy more books 😂
Today is a reorganization day. I still haven‘t decided on how I want to organize my books. I‘m thinking genre, author, and series and then color and size for standalones.
I got my final exam scores back and ya girl got a 97% and 95% on her ochem finals and an 89% on her bio final! It honestly feels so good to see how much I improved this semester. Hard work really does pay off and I‘m glad it‘s over. I have 3 weeks to relax and then it‘s back on that grind. For now, I‘m celebrating with a cozy blanket and a good book. Happy Holidays, y‘all! 🎉
Officially done with finals! Now I can read and relax :‘)
I have my ochem and bio finals this week and then I‘m done for the semester. I‘m excited to have time to read again!
Currently reading Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson and icing my knee. Happy Turkey Day! 🦃
Midterms week. I miss reading for fun 😭 hopefully I‘ll have time soon.
Currently reading The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. This book is going to be the end of me 😭
“Everyone else feels like being caught in the rain. You‘re the whole tsunami.”
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Ch. 53, p. 360
This isn‘t your typical hero vs. villain story. Usually the hero is right & does everything they can to defeat the villain & bring justice to the people of their city. In Renegades, we see the villain‘s POV. We see how they came to power, what their og intentions were, how things went wrong, & what‘s being done to fix it. & I can‘t help but feel that maybe they‘re right. Maybe the heroes aren‘t all they‘re cut out to be.

Currently reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. I first read this book back when I was in middle school and I loved it. I thought I would revisit this world and see if that still holds true.
“Murderer. Butcher. Monster. Liar. Deceiver.
I didn‘t know who I meant. The lines between me and the queen had long since blurred.”
Holy Cauldron! ACOMAF was not what I expected. It was so dark and real and it made me feel EVERYTHING. Definitely one of my favorite books of the year. I don‘t recommend this book for younger readers or anyone who has depression/physical and emotional abuse triggers unless you have someone to talk to about the themes in this book. There‘s a lot of mature content, but overall a great read.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don‘t recommend listening to this book while you‘re working out. It will leave you a sweaty, crying mess! This book follows Ove, both past and present, as he maneuvers through life. Ove is on his own and is known to be a stern and bitter man until a family of four, almost five, moves in next door. Slowly Ove gets to know them, against his wishes, and he hesitantly discovers there can be more to life and relationships than he originally thought.
Current read: A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, narrated by George Newbern
“Then she saw it. Her dress exploded with color, the stone at her feet gained luster, and her very skin became more vibrant. In front of her, a white serving bowl began to shine; then it seemed to stretch, the white color splitting into the colors of the rainbow.”
Ch. 15, p. 157-8
Current Read: Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson.

My goal for this summer is to finish reading Mistborn era 2 and start The Stormlight Archive. I still need to get my hands on Oathbringer and The Alloy of Law and then my Mistborn/Stormlight Archive collection will be complete. 😈
2018 📚: 18/40
Finally done with this semester! Grades were posted and ya girl managed to get 6 As and 1 B! 😭🙌🏾 To celebrate, I read three books 😅 That‘s more than I‘ve had time to read in the past few months and it felt AMAZING!

Update! This semester is finally coming to a close, but so much needs to be done. I have 5 term papers and 3 final exams next week and then 2 presentations this week. Almost there! The highlight of my week was that my friend released a worship album titled Battlegrounds. I‘ve been jamming out to it for the past few days! If any of you want to check it out, I‘ll leave a link. Also I‘m looking forward to having time to read again after finals!
“Mostly, what I have learned so far about aging, despite the creakiness of one‘s bones and the cragginess of one‘s once–silken skin, is this: do it. By all means, do it.” Aging, P24
My cousin and I marched today. Along with about 100 other people in my hometown (of those, maybe 15 were poc and we live in a predominantly Hispanic community) and thousands around the United States and throughout the world. We need gun control yesterday. How many more people need to die before we see change? Enough is enough. ✊🏽

My dad says this all the time 😂 “You can‘t date until you‘re married.”
This cover just has me 😍😍 I‘m so excited to read both of these books written by women of color! It feels so surreal seeing myself be represented. It‘s so empowering and I hope that all those young Latinxs and other poc get to see themselves too. Our stories deserve to be heard. This is only the beginning.

Went to B&N today to get Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi and The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo! Today was a good day 😊
Saw Love, Simon over the weekend and it was everything I wanted it to be! It was funny and sad and real and I loved it! The theater was packed with people from different age groups and ethnicities and it was such a beautiful thing to experience. I laughed; I cried; I clutched my book throughout the entire movie and I am so happy this story is out there for our youth to see. Representation matters. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I‘m sorry for not being on as often. This semester has really been kicking my butt! There‘s so much work that needs to be done and I need to get better at setting time aside to study. I‘ve been trying to read between classes and at night before I go to sleep, but I don‘t really have time 😩 Is this what adulting is like? Lol
This month seems to be more of a YA month.
Jan was a good book month. Some I really enjoyed and others just weren‘t my cup of tea, but I‘m excited to see what February brings for me. Maybe I‘ll go for a little romance this month. Seems appropriate. 😉 If any of y‘all have romance recs, let me know!

📚 2018: 5/40
This book broke my heart into tiny pieces, stomped all over them then carefully pieced them back together with a purple glue stick and duct tape and set me off into the world. This story is about everything from friendship to abuse to redemption, recovery, loss, and first love. The author does a wonderful job covering these topics. Everything feels so real and that makes it all the more heartbreaking. This book does not disappoint.
Started another book this week: Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines. I love the idea of this book. Basically it‘s about a secret organization whose members have the ability to reach into books and take objects that can be used in their world. They‘re supposed to use their powers to keep the world safe from supernatural threats, but this isn‘t always the case. I‘m really looking forward to reading the rest of this book!

I wanted to try something a little different this year. I don‘t read as much as I used to and I want to get back into it so my goal for this year is to read at least 100 pages a day. I‘ve been starting off a little slowly and not reaching my daily goal as much as I would like, but I know I‘ll get there. :)

Do any of you have any bookish goals this year?

Soooo...I think I have a bit of a book buying problem. 😅 I ended up going to the book store with my mom because she needed books for her class this semester. She found what she needed and I managed to find more Sanderson books. I‘m slowly completing my collection. 😈
My first book of the year was The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. (I forgot to post about it 😅) I read the entire series when I was a kid. My fourth grade teacher introduced the Baudelaires to me and I was hooked. Now more than ten years later, here I am revisiting one of my favorite series. I had forgotten how dark and profound these books can be and how much passed over my 8 year old mind, but I‘m excited to read these throughout the year :)
Ch. 7: The Man With Red Eyes, p. 119

It‘s been a while since I‘ve stayed up binge reading a book & I don‘t know if it was entirely worth it. Don‘t get me wrong, it‘s a wonderful story. I loved the concept & the characters. There were also some really great one-liners with valuable lessons such as the quote above, but I just don‘t think this story was for me. I don‘t know if I‘ll be reading the rest of the series. We‘ll just have to wait & see.
Ch. 3: Mrs. Which, p. 44
•
I‘m reading A Wrinkle in Time for the first time and I‘m already having an existential crisis only 44 pages in. I‘ve had to just sit here with the book open to just think. This is going to be a good story and I think I‘m ready for it.

One of my favorite things about Pat‘s writing is his descriptions of music. He put words to the thing and I couldn‘t be anymore grateful and mesmerized as I am every time I read KKC. I can‘t wait until the movie/t.v. show soundtracks come out. The music is going to be amazing.
Ch. 5: Notes, p. 42

It‘s moments like these that remind me how much I love Bast‘s character. He always has such great one-liners!

I‘m really looking forward to the next discussion for #epicbuddyread I‘m a quarter of the way through the reading and I keep having to take a minute to just sit there and think because I forgot just how much of a little butthead Kvothe is. #kvothethebutthead
Today‘s B&N book haul. I know I said I was going to get Simon vs. but they were out of stock! They were out of stock for a lot of titles which was a little disappointing, but I managed to get these for a steal! B&N is having a sale and most of these books cost between $5 and $7. Thank you to everyone who gave me recs! They will be put to good use on my next book buying adventure :)
Hey y‘all so I‘m going to B&N later today and I need a little help choosing what to get. I know for sure I‘m getting a physical copy of Simon vs. because I loved the audiobook so much, but I don‘t know what else I should get. I kinda want something new or something I haven‘t read before so if y‘all have any book recs, please don‘t hesitate to comment! I‘m open to all genres, authors, and book lengths. Thanks in advance! :)
This is the book I needed in high school. Becky Albertalli hit it on the nail with her characters, their reactions, and the situations they were in while Michael Crouch brought the characters to life with his narration. I felt every word and I couldn‘t have asked for anything more. My heart is so full. Definitely my favorite YA this year!
