Rogue Protocol | Martha Wells
post image
Pickpick

Martha Wells delivered another winner with Rogue Protocol. It could be read as a stand-alone and still enjoyed but I certainly recommend reading as a series. This one continues Murderbot on her quest for justice and evidence. In the process, she meets new “clients” and befriends a robot. Of course, the standout here is her insane sarcasm. Gotta love a non-human that can joke.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Our favorite SecUnit belongs to the group of most endearing non-human characters one can get attached to, and I have Data and The Doctor (why hello Enterprise and Voyager) in that list too. 50 more pages to go and hoping I‘ll finish the book before I turn in for the night.

‪Reading that passage, I couldn‘t help but realize that it‘s so true in my case. I‘m known to drastically change my routines or take up audacious projects when I‘m super overwhelmed or stuck in a cycle of frustrations. It works for a while and then I‘m back again consumed by the same problems as before because I didn‘t address the core issue.

I‘ve been listening to Do Over in the car and so far it‘s an interesting read. I‘ve been reading all kinds of business and self-improvement books for about a year now but I don‘t usually finish them. Once I get the gist of it, I move on. However, I doubt that I‘ll do that with audiobooks. I may actually finish this one. It‘s actually turning out to be a good listen. 👍🏼

More than two years after disappearing from most social media platforms (life, job, kids, a move), I‘m making a stab at returning back to what was. Except, nothing else in my life is as it was two years ago. I‘ve changed. A lot. My reading habits have also changed. Not just in my book taste but also in how I read. That said, a do over is always an option. Though I should say that this must be my attempt #IveLostCount. Anyways, here I go...

Now that was a very quick read. If you are no stranger to Michael Pollan's works, then you already know that he is a great advocate for eating healthy whole foods. This book is an amalgam of guidelines to help you with your eating habits. None of them are surprising or new but many people still have trouble adopting them. This year I'm cutting out processed foods from my diet except maybe twice a month and this book has helped cement my goals.

Slatersville definitely has one of the "techiest" libraries ever. They have so many books and not enough space that their book racks are on a conveyor like system. If you want to browse one of the racks, press a button and the adjoining racks will move away. I don't know how they handle large crowds but whatever, it was ingenious!

I am currently working with my toddler to eat good food. I am also wrestling with my family's bad eating habits and the many temptations that surround me. This toddler phase is making me inspect my relationship with food and what I see is not good. I also struggle with well meaning family members who want to feed sugary snacks to my baby because it's a "treat". Needless to say, they see me as that controlling mom for insisting on good habits. ??

After reading all the rave reviews, I got this one yesterday. But the best part was where I bought it from. After hearing a lot about it, I visited the Politics and Prose bookstore yesterday. I'm having a moment. When I moved 16 years ago, my HS friends and I kept in touch through handwritten letters. We'd wait weeks for each other's reply. Except for 2 friends, none of us would meet again. There was no Skype, Facebook, or Whatsapp then. Today, we have all these ways to communicate. My DD has daily Skype calls with her grandparents. How time has changed! Reading this book, I feel terrible for Sabitri whose daughter wouldn't visit her.

Wow! This book about how patients of an insane asylum are treated was just mind blowing. Some of the events in this book are just so hard to believe, especially when it's so obvious that the patient sounds perfectly rational. Made me wonder over and over what constitutes insanity.
