Thank you, @CBee for the reminder to post our #TBRTarot reviews. I took liberties in using “Fall” in October but never posted.

This book was definitely a pick for me. I‘m reading this series and absolutely love his writing.

CBee Sounds like a good one!! 1y

Eskens knocks it out of the park again with this one. An outstanding legal thriller, and for good reason - Eskens was a criminal defense attorney for nearly 30 years. Can't wait to read the next installment in this series!

Crinoline_Laphroaig I've a friend whose Husband loves Legal Thrillers. Will pass this on recommendation on to them. 🙂 2y

Allen Eskens is an exceptional writer! I love how he writes a series with a main character, Max Rupert, and incorporates characters from his previous stories to have a central part in each new book. In this installment, Max is still trying to figure out who killed his wife while solving the murder of an attorney‘s wife. Eskens knows how to create characters who are easily likeable and a story line that immediately sucks you in. #MountTBR

Aswenson I enjoy all of his books. The life we bury is definitely my favorite. 3y
NatalieR @Aswenson I agree! The first book was amazing! I remember the intense feeling it provoked. 3y

The Heavens May Fall takes up the story 9 months after book 2. We meet Max on the anniversary of his wife's death .Max gets a call out to investigate the death of Jennavieve Pruit and all signs lead back to her husband Ben Pruit. Max is sure that Ben Pruit killed his wife but he is having trouble getting all the pieces of the puzzle to fit.Boady is stuck in the middle a long time friend to both Ben and Max. Max and Boady friendship is on the line.

HECK. YES. Another excellent Eskens book. Tightly plotted, and the POV alternates between both the prosecution and the defense. I didn't know which way was up! Totally threw me for a loop.

I have his last two books already checked out from the library so I'll be getting to them shortly! 👏🏽

Another hit out of the park for Eskens! I've only recently discovered him, and I'm so glad I did. He writes in a clean, no-nonsense style that is reminiscent of the Scandinavian crime genre (but with a setting in Minnesota). The character-driven plots propel the story forward rapidly--I devoured this book in less than 48 hours. Definitely recommend for crime/mystery lovers. 👍🏼👍🏼

CouronneDhiver One of my favourite authors! So happy to see someone else enjoying him too 😊 5y

It was a slow start but once it picked up it was like a really engaging, extended Law and Order episode. And one of the narrators sounded like a Baldwin brother 😂

Reecaspieces I am about to start this one. Glad to know about the slow start. I think most of his books are that way 6y
svenezia @Reecaspieces definitely glad I stuck with it though! I‘m about to start another book of his 6y
Reecaspieces @svenezia I was asked to review that one and could not get into it. So I didn‘t finish it. But it had wonderful reviews. Just too slow starting. But I bet the audible will be much better. Let me know what you think. 6y
CouronneDhiver I‘ve really enjoyed all three Eskens novels that I tried. 😊 A slower paced story is almost always my jam 6y

Tightly plotted mystery/legal thriller. Allen Eskens doesn't get enough attention -- he is an excellent writer.

Mehso-so

I was expecting something else, some other kind of ending. This fell a bit flat for me, being just a bit too typical; I wanted something more tragic. The title and cover are great though!

#TBRtemptation post 4! #BEA17 edition! A death told from two opposing sides. Detective Max Rupert firmly believes Jennavieve Pruitt was killed by her husband, Ben. Attorney Boady Sanden firmly believes his client, Ben, is innocent. The two friends will reach a breaking point over this case. Past failures and successes influence these two men to prove their sides. Told from both perspectives. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

A solid mystery and legal thriller. Slightly predictable but highly readable. Loved the premise of the title which appears in the plot itself. I like how the books are interconnected but not so much that you need a clear memory of what happened in the last. It's enough for me to continue with this series and I look forward to the next installment.

There‘s something special about a mystery where you think you basically have it pretty much figured out and the author still manages to pull it all together in a surprising way even though what you suspected turned out to be true. This was my experience with The Heavens May Fall, a truly effective and well constructed mystery and legal thriller that was simply a whole lot of fun to listen too. #armchairaudies

While I was able to see a few minor plot twists coming, the ending more than made up for that. The final chapters were completely unexpected and ultimately satisfying. Full of taut writing, flawed heroes and an impressive plot, The Heavens May Fall will be on my must read list for all. Full review on www.novelgossip.com
