I read this a few years ago, but I needed an easy, comforting listen, so I gave it a go on audio. And I‘m cracking up at Lily‘s voice! 😂

(A major plot line is that Lily is trying to break out of her tv bombshell typecasting to be on the London stage, but her sexy, breathy voice is working against her, and she has to go to speech therapy.) The narrator is nailing it. 😂 #howjessreadsin2019 #romantsy

Lucy Parker is so good, y‘all! PRETTY FACE offers up two characters with the sort of deep connection that bursts off the page, tons of theatrical goodness, and plenty of consideration of how the tabloid press exploits various genres of celebrity. I had a wonderful time and cried RATHER A LOT during the last couple chapters.

Book 2 done for July 2019 24in48 readathon!

I really loved this second book in the London Celebrities series. Lucy Parker really takes aim at the shit actresses have to deal in the acting profession. Luc and Lily are great characters. I‘ll admit to being a bit nervous about the age difference but it is handled so well. Also nice to see Lainie and Richard in a short scene (Richard gives great advice when he remembers to not be an actual git.)

Lucy Parker's book Artistic License under the name Elle Pierson may have a less believable storyline than the other books, but it shares the humor (I laughed out loud a lot) and the adult protagonists actually talking to one another to deal with issues in their relationship. I also enjoyed the description of Queenstown, having visited a few years ago. So all in all a really enjoyable read.

Unfortunately the title is not yet in the Litsy database.

robinb Sounds good, especially TALKING about their issues! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🙄 1y
ScientistSam @robinb no kidding! I really like Lucy Parker and the communication aspect and humor are two big pluses! 1y
robinb @ScientistSam I‘m not familiar with her, but I‘m going to look her up. Any particular favorite I should start with? 1y

After reading Act Like It, I immediately had to download Lucy Parker's second book, Pretty Face. Also a fantastic contemporary romance set in London's West End amongst theater people, this one has a love story that hooked me a little less than Act Like It but dialogue that sparkled and had me laughing out loud. In public. Highly recommended and another 5⭐ read.

There was such a strong connection between Lily and Luc, the tension was palpable right from the moment they met. And it was so much fun to watch their romance unfold as they got to know each other better, and gained mutual trust and respect. This was one of those romances where both hero and heroine feel seen and understood by the other person. I love reading about characters like that!

Lucy Parker has quickly become one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. Pretty Face was released earlier this year, and I loved this age gap romance set in West End featuring a TV-turned-theater actress and the director who casts her.

Shirt says "Gimme HEA" (Happily Ever After), a requirement for #romantsy reads.

She writes witty contemporary romances set in West End, and I have so much love for her books.💙💚 She's not just an awesome writer, she's super generous as well! Another 1st from me 😆 #friyayintro by @jess.how

1. Lucy Parker & Sarina Bowen (this changes...but I dont have that many really)
2. Autumn 👍 its one of my fave seasons ❤🍁🍂
3. HELL YASSSSSSS!!!! Scary is good but gore is boring 🤔
4. Erm...both are unlikely to finish me off in one go, but if I HAVE to pick maybe Shark? I'd prolly drown before the horror?
5. Weather temp? 35°C/95°F 🌞 I currently live in eternal summer country 😑

So much so, that after reading Act Like It (from the library) and discovering that the library didn't have this one, I immediately bought it on my Kindle, bc I couldn't wait to read it. A different flavor than Act like it. Different but as interesting. Less unpredictable, more celebral. Still very satisfying as a romance. I was stuck with a Jude Law fantasy casting and it annoyed me to no end. Luc Savage finally made sense in a way when I went... oh...Mads fits this character. Lily and Luc are a good match for each other. Both have a wicked sense of humor and of self. Pretty face is an entertaining read. #romantsy

Hawks in Montreal while the storm is raging outside. It's Price versus Toews and company. Rookies are in sunny Florida trying to hang on to the wild card place. Pretty Face is still interesting. #readingandwatchinghockey

writerlibrarian Florida is leading the Leafs 1-0. Florida added one more goal. In Montreal, Kane scored a lovely goal. It's 1-0 Hawks. Rookies are finally on the board. Rookies are behind 4-1. Still 1-0 Hawks. Chicago added one and was denied one. It's 2-0 Hawks. Crawford got a puck in the face/mask from a Weber shot. Yeah, Weber shot. Crawford was pushed on his back and hit the ice. Panarin puts the score at 3-0 Hawks . (edited) 3y
writerlibrarian Rookies are losing big. 6-2 Florida. Hawks win 4-2. Toews scored in an empty net. (edited) 3y

A good night to read in bed and listening to hockey. Pens are in Calgary and battle Johnny 'Hockey' Gaudreau. Pretty Face is so quite good but unlike Act Like It where Richard Armitage was perfect casting, this one I keep coming back to a younger Jude Law when he had hair. Problem is, I kinda have a hicky reaction to most of Law's work. Maybe An older, less wild Colin Farrell might be a better match? Fantasy casting... #listeningandwatchinghockey

LeahBergen 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 3y
writerlibrarian @LeahBergen your team is indeed red hot right now. Won't be an easy game. 😁 3y
writerlibrarian Crosby's line gets the opening goal. Sheary scores. Flames tie the game, 1-1. Malkin scores on a PP. It's now 2-1 Pens. Geno is one goal behind Sid as top scorer in the NHL. Flames tie early in the second. Dubious penalty for the Pens and Gaudreau scores on PP. Flames are up by 1. Crosby's line tied the game again. It's 3 all with 3 minutes to go. And we are in OT. Pens are on PP with about 2 minutes to go in OT. We are in shot out. 4-3 Flames (edited) 3y

Perfect cold Sunday afternoon. Hawks' hockey. Less than 5 minutes in, and it's 2-0 Hawks. Kane is on a roll. So Pretty Face on the Kindle, men in red on the tele and probably some xstitch on the side. Go Captain Toews. Hawks are bouncing back from a bad game. #readingandwatchinghockey

writerlibrarian Afte 20 minutes, it's 2-1 Chicago. Staal scored for the Wilds but nothing much happened after the Staal goal. After two periods of play, Hawks increased their leads by one. it's 3-1 Hawks. Wilds added one goal closing the gap to 1 but Hossa closed the opening with a break away goal. It's 4-2 Hawks with less than 5 minutes to go. (edited) 3y

That's my evening. Hockey night in Canada double feature is Rookies in Carolina against the Canes then late game is the Pens versus the Canucks in Vancouver. Watching while reading Lucy Parker's new one. Oh and it's freezing outside I even started a fire in my lonesome fireplace. #readingandwatchinghockey #romantsy

writerlibrarian Pens are on. Goal review for a Canuck goal. No goal. After one period no score. Murray and Miller are in a dead lock. Finally, Pens draw first blood after a first half of period dominate by Pittsburgh. Cole finally scores on Miller. Rookie Jake scores from a pass of Sheary. 2-0 Pens with 3 minutes left. Sheary scores in an empty net nails the Canucks' coffin shut. (edited) 3y
writerlibrarian Canes scored first but Marner got them back in a lovely, lovely goal. Carolina opened the second with a PPG but Marner's line replied with a goal by JVR. After 40 minutes they're tied at 2. After 60 minutes, they are going in OT. Rielly puts it in. A rare OT win for the Rookies. 3y

This #romance has a fascinating premise--the heroine is a gorgeous blonde with a porn star voice, type-cast as a TV sex-pot, desperate to break into serious acting. She's smart but people instantly think she's stupid--not true of this cover model. But then I have an anorexic model on a book about a curvy heroine, so I know how that goes! (Pleasure for Pleasure, if you want to witness the disaster yourself.) #romantsy. #keepers.

writerlibrarian This one is in my queue of books for March. 😁 3y
Chachic Loved this one! 💖 Can't wait to read more of @LucyParker's books. 3y
Vexingcircumstance I don't think she looks anorexic. She's about my size. That's a fairly normal size. She doesn't look unhealthy. That said, she def isn't curvy. I hate when cover art doesn't fit the description in the book. :/ 3y

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! It's a yearly tradition for me to post on my blog about my favorite fictional couples from books I read in the past year.💑📖 Click on this link to check out my list:

https://chachic.wordpress.com/2017/02/14/favorite-literary-couples-vii-2/

Do we share some favorites? If not, who are your favorite couples from books you've read in the last year or so?😊

#romantsy

danistclair Yes!! So much love for Jess and Mitch and Iris and Gio 😍 3y
Chachic @danistclair Yay, I'm so glad you agree with two od my choices! You might enjoy reading about the other couples too?😉 3y
danistclair @Chachic I've pre-ordered Pretty Face. Weirdly enough, I've never read any Laura Florand, even though I've had so many of hers on my Goodreads TBR for years, but I recently bought Once Upon A Rose so looking forward to that. And put some of your runners up on my TBR as well! 3y
See All 22 Comments
Chachic @danistclair *gasp* You haven't read any of Laura Florand's books? You must do so immediately! Once Upon a Rose is a good one to start with.😉 Or if you want to try her Amour et Chocolat series, you can start with The Chocolate Kiss or The Chocolate Touch. How about your picks, which couples would make it to your list?😊 3y
danistclair @Chachic I enjoy Grave Draven, so Master of Crows is getting bumped up the TBR. Promise of Fire is sooo expensive in Australia, but I really do just need to bite the bullet, because everyone says it's amazing. Good Boy looks cool, and excited to give graphic novel a go. So basically all of them lol, except the Roan Parrish that I've already read 😂 3y
Chachic @danistclair I need to catch up on Grace Draven's backlist, her fantasy romances are good. I enjoyed A Promise of Fire but the sequel, not so much. Good Boy is a lot of fun! Have you read Him and Us by the same authors? Good Boy is the first in their spinoff series. And yes, you totally shoul read Fresh Romance.💖 3y
Chachic @danistclair But what I also meant to ask was, who are your favorite fictional couples from books you read in the past year?😉 3y
danistclair @Chachic oh lol! Classic! Mitch and Jess from Summer Skin as well. Dawn and Arturo from Jenny Holiday's novella the Gossip. Sofie and Ivan in Alyssa Cole's Let It Shine. Lucy and Josh from the Hating Game. And I only read Act Like It last year, so Richard and Elaine. Those are the ones that come immediately to mind, at least! 3y
danistclair @Chachic I have read Him, but haven't read Us. I didnt realise it was a spinoff, guess I should finish those ones then! 3y
Chachic @danistclair I remember reading a Jenny Holiday book but I've forgotten which one. Let It Shine has been on my wishlist for ages. And I read The Hating Game and enjoyed it but didn't love it like so many other readers did, I think Julie James does better love-hate banter.😁 3y
Chachic @danistclair The hero in Good Boy is Wes' teammate in Us, and the heroine is Jamie's sister. 3y
danistclair @Chachic Fair enough, I do love a good Julie James! I really connect with Jenny Holiday's characters, and I really liked both the hero and heroine in the Gossip. It's set on a uni campus in the 1980s which is fun and different as well! 3y
danistclair @Chachic aaaah, I'd definitely better read Us then! 3y
Chachic @danistclair Sounds like I should check out Gossip! It seems interesting based on what you've said. Oh and I also need to read more #romanceclass titles, I remember you loved The Future Chosen and I haven't read that yet. 3y
danistclair @Chachic I hope you like The Gossip 😊 and the Future Chosen obviously, it was sooo good! Andres and Lourdes will probably be one of my favourite couples of this year. I need to read more #romanceclass as well, when I got my new kindle I found a Miren B Flores that I'd forgot I'd downloaded, so I'll start with that! 3y
Chachic @danistclair You're getting a new Kindle, congrats! Which Miren B. Flores book is that, Loveless. Childless. Clueless. or Prep and Prejudice? I have so many #romanceclass titles in my Kindle because I keep downloading freebies or discounted titles haha. 3y
danistclair @Chachic My old kindle died, so it was necessary (at least from my pov!). It's Prep and Prejudice, I'm looking forward to it! I should be on better look out for #romanceclass deals, there are some many I haven't read 😂 3y
Chachic @danistclair I hope you get to read Loveless. Childless. Clueless. too, I think it's just 0.99usd on Amazon. Are you on Twitter? That's where I usually hear about deals. 3y
danistclair @Chachic yes, I'm on twitter, but I just realised I wasn't following a lot of the romance class authors. Fixed now! Bought Loveless too - thanks for that 😁 3y
Chachic @danistclair Found you on Twitter! Yeah, I follow several #romanceclass authors to keep track of deals. Mina's Learning to Fall is just 0.99 usd now. 3y

3 books in 4 days. Apparently I needed some escapism.

If I don't think too hard about some points, I enjoyed this one more than Act Like It. I really liked the introverted MC who is often mistaken as aloof (I can relate.) Introverts tend to be portrayed as lonely and that is far from the case. Elle (aka Lucy) adds some extra outside drama to everyday relationship development (👎) but her characters are so human (❤). #romantsy

MarriedtoMrT FYI - book tagged is the author's upcoming release under a different name. Artistic License is not in the Litsy catalog. 3y

MarriedtoMrT @Chachic I think the writing overall was better in Act Like It but I was annoyed that the theater needed to collapse for them to figure their stuff out. 3y

Fun read. I preferred both the characters and plot in this story over the first in the series, the backstage "pass" into the theater world was a setting I really enjoyed! As well as the focus on overcoming looks-based stereotypes.

Well, if that isn't a little too spot on right now, eh, USA?

Quote actually from Artistic License by Elle Pierson (aka Lucy Parker) which is not in the Litsy catalog.

I must admit to a bit of a squee moment when I saw this was coming out. I absolutely loved the first book in this series and this second novel is an absolute treat. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and story, an couldn't put it down. London is described vividly and the theater setting feels very real with a feisty and romantic tale woven in. If you've not picked up the author already, then do. One of my favorites of 2017 already.

Chachic Pretty Face is also one of my favorite reads this year so far. SO GOOD! 👌👌 3y

Parker knocked it out of the park with her first book, Act Like It, and she's done it again with Pretty Face. This one is again set in the theater world of London (love!) and strikes a slightly more muted tone. But in doing so it became a more emotional read. Wonderful in every way.

A girl after my own heart.💖 She rereads Pride and Prejudice when she's stressed.
