Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Death and Dementia
Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Death and Dementia | Edgar Allan Poe
15 posts | 9 read | 19 to read
A murderer driven to the edge by the sound of his victim's still-beating heart A mental institution run by someone other than its staff A mysterious box aboard a ship with a ghastly secret And the hypnotist's stare that could, perhaps, paralyze even death Strap into your straitjacket, fasten it tight, and brace yourself! For within these pages are stories of lost love, lost ways and lost minds. Gris Grimly's mysterious, morbid, macabre illustrations capture four Poe classics, including perennial favourite, The Tell Tale Heart, with an unmatchable ghoulish charm. Read them if you dare ~ and celebrate, in true Poe style, the two hundredth anniversary of the birth ofthe great Master of the Macabre.

I was only familiar with one of the four stories in this collection, but I love Poe and the history/mythology that surrounds the man himself. The Gris Grimly illustrations in this collection are expectedly gruesome and while not my favorite style of art, I love the book.

Where are all my gothic fans? For #Poe's birthday I shared my Gothic Fantasy TBR list. (Well, in progress list I've made my way through some of it already.) Tell me what you think.

It's on my blog at rbf.wtf

You can shop the list on Amazon too if you'd like. The link is in the blog post.

Be warned it's not a business blog (even though I have a business). My business links are all there, but it's just my own personal ramblings and likes.

“Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! — Tear up the planks! — Here, Here! — It is the beating of his hideous heart!” ♥️

Another of my favorite Poe stories! Truly nightmarish. And Grimly‘s illustrations are so perfectly horrifying alongside it.

Really enjoyed this take on some classic Poe!

The graphics were on point and I can see how this would get younger readers into some great horror!

@TheReadingMermaid These are fun little Poe editions. You'd probably like them. What's your favorite Poe story? Mine is either The Black Cat or The Fall of the House of Usher.

BeansPage Oh I love those editions! Wish I could thumb through them. I'll tag you with a pic of mine.... 6y

#AdelesMayMashUp Day 16: Gris Grimly has breathed new life to these eerie stories of Edgar Allan Poe that seem perfect #UnderHauntedSkies. The strange art has taken these haunting tales of death and dementia a notch creepier. Full review here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-qZ

vkois88 I picked this up in the library the other day, but put it back bc my bag was already overflowing 7y

I really enjoy reading Poe‘s work with the illustrations. It helps me appreciate the stories with his use of old language and big-word adjectives. 🤓 I spied a graphic novel book on @mypoesoul ‘s Poe bookshelves that I‘ll have to read soon. 🧐

thereadingowlvina Nice pic! 😊 7y

The illustrations are wonderful! If you want to introduce a young audience to Poe, this is the way to do it.

This is the only book (besides Secret Santa) that I have purchased as a gift this season. It's for my son and his sons who are not big readers. 🙁🙁 I'm still working on books for my other son and family who do read a lot. 😁😁#12daysofxmasphoto

readordierachel That's an awesome cover 8y

My little model insisted that we stay inside and read, rather than go out in the rain. How could I say no to that face?

This book was, predictably, awesome. Gris Grimly's illustrations bring Edgar Allan Poe's work to life, making the stories even more disturbing than they were to begin with. Perfect for a stormy night in.

There's another one! Excited to meet more disturbing Poe characters and see more Grimly illustrations. (Not sure this counts as a #graphicnovel for the #octphotochallenge, but I had to share.) #scaretober
