so-soFrom the cover copy, I expected a fantasy, a quest, a journey. This isn‘t a fantasy novel at all, but it is a journey, of one young girl‘s search for a place to belong. The writing is strong, and really evokes a sense of place and character, but the situations…it just felt more and more unrealistic that Malin continued to survive as she leapt from horror to horror. Perhaps that was the fantasy that was meant, but it left me unsatisfied.
Did a TBR deep dive this morning and came up with this. Looks magical & perfect for a long weekend day off…

What a fascinating read this one has been. Expecting a fantasy novel when I picked it up and read the back I find myself surprised by the hard, harsh and cruel reality in which this story is grounded.
