Not book-related, but we just had an earthquake about an hour ago near me. Did anyone else feel it? A 5.1 near Sparta, NC.

BehindthePages I didn't, but everyone else in my town seemed to. 4y
JamieArc My good friend lives in Raleigh and said he thought his bed was malfunctioning 😂 4y
AmyK1 We felt it in Columbia, SC 4y

So, did the rest of my NC Littens feel this, too? I‘m right on the NC/SC line and it shook my bed. The dogs are still freaked. 2020 needs to get over itself and stop throwing tantrums.

Soubhiville Glad it wasn‘t any worse! 4y
Lcsmcat We didn‘t feel it here (south of Raleigh) but my son in High Point did. But since he grew up out west, it was no big deal. He said it felt more like a gust of wind than an earthquake. 4y

RaimeyGallant Wow! Where is this? 5y
Kimberlone @debthmpsn @CrowCAH @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TrishB everything is starting to get back to normal already. While there is infrastructure damage around the city, overall we came out mostly unscathed! 5y
Kimberlone @RaimeyGallant Title Wave Books in Anchorage, AK. About 3 blocks from where I live. We had a 7.2 earthquake yesterday morning. 5y

Whelp, our morning in Alaska was interrupted by an impressive 7.0 earthquake, epicenter only 10 miles from Anchorage, where I live. Thankfully the worst damage we had was some broken glasses, but there are reports of collapsed roads and worse around town. My Xmas decorations were a bit disturbed, very but glad to still have power and no major problems at our house.

LitLogophile That makes me think of a great book I read about an Alaskan earthquake! 5y
AmyG I just read about this. Glad you are ok. 5y
LiteraryinLawrence I‘m so glad you are ok!! It sounds scary. Do we know if other Alaskan Littens were affected? Sending love. 5y

Kimberlone @LitLogophile I‘ve lived here my whole life and this was definitely the biggest one that‘s happened since the ‘64 earthquake. 5y
Kimberlone @LiteraryinLititz my sister @Saknicole is about 150 miles south of anchorage. She was at school teaching, said her students were pretty freaked out but they didn‘t feel it as strongly down there as we did up here. The town I am from Seward had a tsunami warning, but that was cancelled. 5y
LitLogophile That‘s crazy! I‘m glad you‘re okay 5y
BookishMarginalia Omg! @kimberlone and @Saknicole — glad you‘re both ok! 5y
JoScho That is scary. 5y
Kimberlone @JoScho i will admit it was scary during the initial earthquake, which felt like it lasted a long time. I have been through dozens of earthquakes in my life, and Alaskans like to think it‘s no big deal, but this one was probably the scariest and most damaging (due to its proximity to the main population area) in over 50 years. (edited) 5y
JoScho Wow. So glad you are ok. I have never been in an earthquake-east coast so plenty of hurricanes but no earthquakes. 5y
Burghbookaddict 7.0!! Ugh. Glad you're safe! 5y
That-Bookish-Hiker Oh no! Hope everyone is safe. 5y
Wife 😱 oh! Now I see. Saw your later post first. 5y
Velvetfur @Wife Me too! @Kimberlone that sounds really scary but I'm glad you're all OK and there wasn't much property damage x 5y
Kimberlone @Wife @Velvetfur thanks! While there has been notable infrastructure damage around the city, including structural fires and flooding from broken water mains, I am very thankful to have made it through basically unscathed! I haven‘t heard about any major injuries either. What‘s crazier is that we are still feeling aftershocks. Just had one as I was typing this comment! 5y

Hey ya‘ll,..share with our friends on the possibly affected places? I just read that it‘s the next couple of hours that are iffy as to whether or not tsunamis will occur.

Between the earthquake in the upper South Island in my country and the post election worries in the US, I'm just really glad I have books to escape into now and then to have a break. Kia kaha to anyone in the quake affected area. ❤️

Notafraidofwords Wow sending prayers ❤️️ 7y
Suzze That was a BIG earthquake. Did you feel it? Hoping there aren't many injuries. I haven't heard much on the news about it. USA news is very self-centered. 7y
Bette Wow, how frightening. Take care. 7y

LeahBergen Yikes!! 😮 7y
Centique @suzze only two died. Very lucky it happened at midnight I think as no one on the roads, otherwise it would be a lot worse I think. Lots of big slips covering major roads so main issue will be infrastructure. I didn't feel it but i am 8 hours or so away from the centre. 7y
