Got an arc in the mail today from HarperCollins. Guess I must have won it somewhere! Always fun. Looks like a good one.

Christine Aww fun! I hadn‘t heard of this one but immediately figured it must be about Sandwich, MA when I saw the cover! I used to live on a military base on the Upper Cape very near Sandwich. 8mo
Suzze @Christine Cool! I had no idea what Sandwich referred to. On the back it just mentions Cape Cod. (Which, to be honest I couldn‘t have told you what state that was - I‘m in the Great Lakes.) 8mo
Christine I‘m originally from Wisconsin and certainly had never heard of Sandwich until I moved there! 8mo

I am so excited to be reading an arc of the new Flavia DeLuce. I thought the series had ended! I screamed when I saw a new one scheduled for September. One of my favorite mystery series. 🚲 🔬

1. Declutterring. Reading.
2. A busy 5 lane road. Which the geese like to walk across. It‘s unnerving.
3. Westland, MI sunny and 69°. Not staying this way much longer. ?
4. Middle grade book by one of my favorite children‘s authors. Also have just a tiny speck left of One Dark Window.

Bookzombie My husband and I love the geese but their road crossings stress us out. 8mo

*On my front porch when it‘s nice outside.
*Flavia DeLuce. Flavia is 11, and rides her bike around the town, discovering amazing crimes and clues.
*There are two. Winnie the Pooh and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
*The one I wanted to recommend is St. Martin‘s (darn it), so I‘ll say The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Amazing book.
*I hate people reading on an E-reader in a public place. I‘m nosy! I need to know what they are reading!

I‘m not a big sports fan. My family tho… My oldest son was a kids‘ football coach and director of the city league. His oldest son works at the minor league hockey stadium and drives the Zamboni for games. His next younger brother is the starting left tackle for the Northwestern University football team. He had offers from 16 schools, including 6 in the Big Ten. His younger brother plays football for his high school. More……

Suzze His younger sister plays basketball for two travel teams, one in another state! My oldest granddaughter is a cheerleader for her high school. Her brother played football and got hurt. Decided he‘d rather play basketball. 🤣🤣 10mo

I‘m reading an advance copy of The Comfort of Ghosts. I‘ve been reading the Maisie Dobbs series since the first one came out in 2003. This is the last in the series (#18). Jacqueline Winspear has given us a glimpse into Maisie‘s life starting as a young woman during WWI through her life to 1945 as the boys are coming back to England after WWII. I will miss Maisie, but am glad to have a final wrap up of one of my favorite mystery series.

jdiehr Yes! 11mo
TrishB Me too! 11mo
Birdsong28 Yes! 11mo
TheKidUpstairs Yes, usually! But I'm reading this one as a physical copy, and there's not so much “chapters“, but lots of breaks within parts. So, much less intimidating than books with REALLY long chapters, and few natural break points. 11mo
Suzze @TheKidUpstairs Yes, I noticed that once I got going. But I still like the chapters as they feel more like full stops instead of just pauses. 11mo

I really liked the premise of the book, three couples in a high-end secluded cabin during a fierce storm. Who knew what things awaited them?

But the storm never seemed to be as dire as predicted and neither did the book. I really enjoyed the first three quarters of the book, but it fell flat for me in the last quarter.
