An intricately crafted story of madness, magic and misfortune across three generations from the author of The Middle of Somewhere and House Broken... Vermont, 1972. Carole LaPorte has a satisfying, ordinary life. She cares for her children, balances the books for the family s auto shop and laughs when her husband slow dances her across the kitchen floor. Her tragic childhood might have happened to someone else. But now her mind is playing tricks on her. The accounts won t reconcile and the murmuring she hears isn t the television. She ought to seek help, but she s terrified of being locked away in a mental hospital like her mother, Solange. So Carole hides her symptoms, withdraws from her family and unwittingly sets her eleven-year-old daughter Alison on a desperate search for meaning and power: in Tarot cards, in omens from a nearby river and in a mysterious blue glass box belonging to her grandmother. An exploration of the power of courage and love to overcome a damning legacy, All the Best People celebrates the search for identity and grace in the most ordinary lives. CONVERSATION GUIDE INCLUDED"

#ReadingUSA 2019 #Vermont. I really liked this book and had never heard of it before searching for a book set in Vermont. Historical interest of mental illness in women in the 40‘s and also in the 70‘s. I would recommend this book.

Now to find one for #Nevada.

TheAromaofBooks Fear & Loathing is kind of a crazy book, but Hunter Thompson can be hilarious when he is in stride. 5y

One of the intriguing selections I received in my swap. I have yet to read anything by this particular author but the jacket description and reviews have me eager to start this with so much I can personally relate with...there is even a character that uses #Tarot and #Omens in nature!! 😁👍 Oh and there is a reader's guide included which is a nice bonus.

4⭐️. A wrenching, enlightening and moving novel about the past and the present, and the tremendous impact mental health issues can have on all best people. a poignant story of three generations of women affected by the stigma of mental illness and the impact it has on families. The dual timelines focuses on the 1930‘s and the 1970‘s. The 1930‘s timeline was...https://lharvey250.tumblr.com/post/161514958399/all-the-best-people-sonja-yoerg-my-rating

Carole has spent most of her life taking care of her sister after their mother was hospitalized. She visits Solange and takes care of her family. Things are happening though, accounts don't add up and she hears voices. Keeping it secret, she tries to act as if everything is normal. Each family member reacts to this differently. When tragedy threatens, she can no longer pretend. How will the family deal with this? 5☆'s!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book told from four women's perspectives and in two different time periods. It touches on the topic of mental illness and it's effects on each individual. Some characters were likable while others I just wanted to shake. Well done @SonjaYoerg

I was able to get an advanced copy of All the best people, and I really enjoyed it. I had a little difficulty getting the characters straight, but it all came together a few chapters in. I enjoyed the story line, the plot, and the characters.

Ah gross! We just had this topic in conversation in the office too! A former co-worker that came into work during the summer wearing flip-flops exposing ugly and hairy toes. 😝

ValerieAndBooks 😷 eww. But also somehow it's hard to imagine someone who regularly wears tasseled loafers would also wear Birkenstocks. 8y

Started this one last night - on the tablet so could read in bed at night. Haven't gotten too far yet but will probably focus on reading this one before getting back to Music of the Ghosts. (All the books must be read!)
