Recently I have had to give up and put aside a few books that I had started reading before the hospital. I just can't bring myself to read them. Has nothing to do with the books themselves but more with me and not being able to read. My brain still isn't functioning correctly.

What books have you given up on recently? Why? 😃

Jennick2004 Owen Meany 😱🤷‍♀️ 6y
BeansPage @Jennick2004 why is that sweetie? 6y
BiblioLitten Crazy Rich Asians because it was going nowhere. 6y

emmaturi Milkman, I just couldn't get into it! 6y
Reagan Gods of Gotham yesterday. I was just so bored. 6y
Rissa1 Early Riser, it was incredibly slow. 6y
ravenlee We the Living, because I struggled for two months to get through 100 pages (maybe less) and couldn‘t care about the MC, who doesn‘t care about anything. Everyone else is miserable and I just didn‘t want to slog anymore. 6y
theokiereader @Rissa1 I‘m reading Early Riser right now and have to agree. I *think* it might be getting better. Maybe if I was into alternate universes more, like Star Wars/Star Trek fans.... 6y
Klowman78 A lot lol 6y
Klowman78 How do I deal with my emotions well I‘m not done reading it yet 6y
greenhairdontcare I‘ve given up on two short story books which is such a shame, because I‘m a big fan! I‘m finding that even with a cold atm, I‘m struggling to focus on a book. 😩 6y
introvertedbooks I was 2 hours into the audiobook and had no idea who the main character was or what was happening 6y
mcipher I just got so annoyed by this one i had to give up: 6y
Carolyn11215 A book of poetry called Sin by a famous Iranian poetess. I just couldn‘t find the melody in the poems and was getting frustrated with my lack of response to them. 6y
stephothebesto It was due back at the library and short stories just aren't for me. I'm a big NK Jemisin fan, and even she couldn't convert me. I figured I'd return it so someone else who would really enjoy it could get started. 6y
bullbunny Caraval, I started it and things that happened in it. O didn't like. So I stopped reading it 6y
ShananigansReads Black Girls Must Die Exhausted I had such high hopes but it was sooooo boring and the main character also annoyed me. 6y
mhillis I never post about the books I bail on 😂 but 6y
RainyDayReading I‘m thinking I might give up on Black Leopard, Red Wolf. I‘m just not clicking with the writing and I am so confused with what I‘ve read so far. It‘s not the “I must keep reading to fix my confusion”, it‘s “what the hell am I even reading and why am I doing this to myself” confusion. 😪 6y
AbbiJack Bailed hardcore. Might give it a try again later down the road, but the characters didn't feel relatable at all and the word "magic" was starting to get on my nerves... ? Was super disappointed, I had high hopes for it! 6y
dragondrool The Little Paris Bookshop. It just wasn't grabbing me and was a little too precious, if that's the right word. It was for our book club. Maybe I'll finish it some day. Probably not. 6y

So I need to vent. I started a book club a few years ago that worked very well...until it didn‘t. In short, we had one difficult member who eventually backed out, inadvertently taking a few other members with her. I tried to “get the band back together”, so to speak when coincidentally 2 new members came along. But ever since then it feels like pulling teeth to get everyone to meet. I miss book club, but I don‘t know how to find reliable members!

Victoriahoperose That‘s terrible ☹️. If you‘re anywhere near philly you could join the book club I am in! 7y
Purrfectpages @Victoriahoperose I‘m not close enough to Philly, but thank you for the invite! 7y
ReadingVampire So I know that people on Goodreads create live book clubs in your area... idk if you might be interested but there‘s something to look into... or maybe a couple of litsy friends of yours live in your area and would like to join you? 7y

monalyisha I know it‘s not quite the same thing but... I have a book club that meets monthly via video chat & I love it! It‘s a lot easier to get people together if they don‘t actually have to leave the house. 😉 We have 6 members, so we each get to choose 2 books to read every year. Maybe something of that nature would work for you, too? (edited) 7y
mrozzz Aww that‘s not cool. It‘s hard to find the right combo of IRL people 7y
LiteraryinPA @monalyisha That‘s such an interesting concept! 7y
monalyisha @LiteraryinLititz It started as a way to keep in touch with friends after we graduated from college & were scattered all over the country. We‘ve been going for almost 5 years now (though we‘ve been out of college for 10 😱). (edited) 7y
2BR02B Ugh, I know what you mean. I started a book club on Meetup nearly four years ago, thinking there would be a core group who came to every meeting, plus a handful of less committed members who showed up once every couple of months or so. Instead, people seem to come to every meeting diligently for six months or so, then disappear forever. I hate it, because it feels like I'm the only person who's really invested. 😐 7y
CouronneDhiver I‘m sure that‘s frustrating... I feel like a hear a lot about book clubs where people haven‘t read the book (?) or don‘t attend regularly. I hope it‘s not another “lost art”. 🤔 7y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads Yea. I am wondering about book clubs too @couronnedhiver 7y
TheDaysGoBy I tried to do one with my coworkers last year, and only like half of us read the book and we're ready to discuss it by the end of the month. And then the girl whose idea it was, said she couldn't read with the pressure of a deadline. It made me insane since the whole thing had been her idea 😂 So things fizzled after that 7y
Mdargusch Sorry, that is very frustrating! 7y
DimeryRene I hate when book clubs fizzle out. I‘ve been in an ultra small one for three years now. Two friends of mine from middle school and me; that‘s it! We all always read every month and we switch off picking titles - no one ever skips. It‘s perfect. But I think it‘s because we all live far apart now and it really keeps us connected. Childhood bonds and all that. 💗💗 7y
Purrfectpages @Puredragonstar @monalyisha I‘ve yet to find Littens in my area, and Im sort of looking for an in person club since Litsy is my online fix. @mrozzz it really is! @2BR02B yes, two of our current members contacted me so you think they‘d be interested in following through! @CouronneDhiver just like reading itself! :( @TheDaysGoBy yea, you really see another side of people! @Mdargusch it really is!@DimeryRene that‘s sweet! 7y
janeycanuck Check to see if there‘s a Girly Book Club in your area. I used to run a book club on my own and the same thing happened. I now host one of the GBC chapters. Maybe there is already one in your neck of the woods. 6y
Purrfectpages @janeycanuck I‘ve never heard of this! I checked my area though and there isn‘t one. I wonder how hard it is to start? 6y
janeycanuck @Purrfectpages not hard at all. I emailed them, I had a call with Erin. She told me to think of a location, they set up the meetup group and it was off and running. I love that there‘s 60k members worldwide & they do video chats with the authors each month. As a host, you get a copy of the book for free and they provide the discussion questions to lead the conversation. It‘s so much less stress than when I ran my own book club. 6y
janeycanuck @Purrfectpages they send all the copy & images for each month‘s book and send gorgeous newsletters. All I have to do is post each month‘s details (with their copy), make a reservation at our location, and show up to lead the discussion. 6y
Purrfectpages @janeycanuck I‘ll have to look into this! How do you recruit members or do they take care of that? Are there startup costs? 6y
janeycanuck @Purrfectpages people manage to just find the meet up group somehow. I haven‘t had to do any kind of promotion or anything. No costs for hosts, there‘s a $5 fee for people to attend, I haven‘t had anyone complain about it. 6y
Purrfectpages @janeycanuck great! Thanks for the info! 6y
janeycanuck @Purrfectpages no problem. If you have more questions later, let me know! 6y

Yep ... my non-reader friend came over and I tried to explain why there‘s a pile of library books on my living room side table when my bookshelves are overflowing with unread titles. (And she doesn‘t even know about all the books on my kindle and checked out from Hoopla & Libby!🤓) #thestruggleisreal

Jess7 If your friend isn‘t a serial reader, then she wouldn‘t understand! #TheStruggleIsReal and I am super guilty of reading new library books before anything on my physical or virtual (kindle) shelves! 🎉 (edited) 7y
Hoopiefoot @Jess7 Me too! 7y
MamaGina @Hoopiefoot @Jess7 I just got a text from the library that another hold is in! 😂 #latefees (edited) 7y

JanuarieTimewalker13 Guilty. And really, not a problem. In fact, it‘s a beautiful thing to follow your heart when a book calls to you. It‘s all good❤️ 7y
twinkletoes74 I‘m exactly the same, kindle is overloaded and I have two bookshelves filled with books. But I just love going to the library, my local library has a really good choice of brand new books. 7y
tpixie ♥️♥️♥️ 7y
Zelma Heh, nonreaders just don‘t understand. 7y
MamaGina @JanuarieTimewalker13 @twinkletoes74 @zelma You, my people, understand!!! 🙌🏼 7y
