Game of Ghosts: A Charlie Parker Thriller
Game of Ghosts: A Charlie Parker Thriller | John Connolly
24 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 19 to read
Internationally bestselling author John Connolly returns with another -superb fusion of noir and the supernatural- (My Bookish Ways) in this latest thriller in his gripping Charlie Parker series. It is deep winter and the darkness is unending. A private detective named Jaycob Eklund has vanished and Charlie Parker is assigned to track him down. Parker's employer, Edgar Ross, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has his own reasons for wanting Eklund found. Eklund is no ordinary investigator--he is obsessively tracking a series of homicides and disappearances, each linked to reports of hauntings. Now Parker is drawn into Eklund's world: a realm in which the monstrous Mother rules a crumbling criminal empire, in which men strike bargains with angels, and in which the innocent and guilty alike are pawns in a game of ghosts...

👻 I believe there are phenomena that are unexplainable given our current state of knowledge.

👻 The tagged is part of a wonderful series with supernatural elements.

👻 There is a collection of regional ghost stories I'll tag in the comments. One of them has quite a few local believers.

Great Halloween month questions, @ozma.of.oz 😊 #sundayfunday

With each new book I become even more enthralled with Parker's future, but I'm also sad because I'm getting closer to the end of the published books I this series. A book lover's dilemma. 😉

I really loved the ghost aspect in this one and the focus bringing us back to Parker's history with the Hollow Men. His daughter, Sam, is starting to take a bigger role in the story, which I love, but it also makes me nervous about what might happen.

Started Play Dead this morning, maybe Game of Ghosts next. Nothing seems very appealing today, back in ‘the office‘ Tuesday so reading will plummet again.

I‘m loving Charlie Parker this month. Only one book left then I have to wait until April for his next one. That‘s why I take long breaks between his books. Definitely my favourite thriller author. And thank you @ScorpioBookDreams for the gin ‘taster‘ and my favourite chocolate selections from Hotel Chocolat 😍 I‘m having a very relaxing night ❤️📚🍫

Guildedearlobe Love Charlie Parker!! 5y

I‘ve been away from this series about private eye Charlie Parker, but picked this up the other day. Back in the honeycomb world! Supernatural noir, it is better than I remembered. And Louis and 👼 Angel face mortality.

#TBRtemptation post 2! Released in April. Not, not a Michael Connelly book. No, not GoT 😜. This is the 15th installment in the Charlie Parker series. A strong 4.41 GR rating! In deep winter, Jaycob Ecklund has disappeared. Parker's FBI boss sends him to find the missing detective, who was investigating homicides attached to hauntings. A whole criminal world is in play. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

I love John Connelly 😊 I took my mum to see him read about 7/8 years ago but had only read The Book of Lost Things at that point. I became hooked and eagerly wait for the next Charlie Parker installment - he is my bookish crush. This is book 15 and Parker 's story gets more complex as does the mystery surrounding his daughter Sam. Where will Connelly take us next? I can't wait to find out!

If you haven't read these start with Every Dead Thing.

TrishB I've just read number 1 and have 2-4 ready 😀 7y
Bambolina_81 @TrishB That first one is devestating!!! 7y
TrishB Yes - brilliant. I'm always glad to be recommended a new series that has loads to catch up on! 7y

I love the banter between these three characters. It's my favourite part of Connelly's books.

Apologies for the blurry quality of the photo as I'm sat in the back of a car en route to Wales 😊

So disappointed with the audio book for this one. I've read the hardcopies of all other 14 Charlie Parker books and thought it would be good to give this a listen as I go. Arrgh it sounded nothing like the characters as I imagined them...this had to be returned as my fantasy Charlie just doesn't sound like that 😕 back to the books and that yummy Charlie of my imagination 😍

And the wait begins again for more Charlie Parker!! Stayed up way too late to finish this in one sitting! And it reminds me yet again that John Connolly is just my favorite!!!

Guildedearlobe I was a bit angry the other day. I got an email from Audible that it was available then I realize it's Audible UK and not available in the US yet. 😡 7y
TorieStorieS @Guildedearlobe - I completely understand! I think The Whisperers was the first book in the series to have such a gap between publications- since then, I've been pre-ordering them there!! I just don't have the patience!! 7y

This one snuck up on me. I'm a huge Connolly fan and didn't realise this one had come out. This is the only series that I've read every single one of...this is number 14. I cannot wait to get started 😁 #supernatural #crimethriller #angelsanddemons

Wow! Okay, I didn't see that coming! It left me a bit sad. It is indeed a ghost story but its terrible implications will impact strongly Paker's future. The plot was great, Connolly managing to gradually increase the intesity of the events, although I think that the end was rather bland and unfulfilling. But a good read nonetheless. I absolutely love this series. Now I'll just have to wait again for another volume. 🤓

TrishB I've just started number 1 😀 7y
Olivia306 @TrishB I personally love this series, so I am very biased 😂 but I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you thought.🤓 7y

I can't wait to read the new Charlie Parker novel. So excited! 🤓 My new book haul is a combination of old and new books and I can't wait to read them all. 😊

KCorter Ooh! And a Catherynne Valente! 7y
Olivia306 @KCorter Yes, it will be my first novel by Valente. Can you recommend more from her? 7y
KCorter My introduction to her was the Fairyland series. I would highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy modern fairytales. 7y
Olivia306 @KCorter Thank you. 🤓 I will definitely have a look as I do love fairytales. 😊 7y
TorieStorieS Oh! My start with Valente was her duology of The Orphan's Tales- In The Night Garden is the first... one of my very favorites!! 7y
