Having a lot of feelings about Pride week, how I‘m participating, how I‘m not, what I‘m preparing for that‘s keeping me home from the festivities. Mostly thinking about how many of my LGBTQ+ family lost in the Pulse shooting were Puerto Rican. This overlap in the communities I am passionate about feels particularly strong right now, as I prepare to leave one home during its Pride celebration in order to return to another. #lgbtq🌈 #pride

I‘ve read this book a million times, and I think it holds not only goodness for children, but the best parenting advice I‘ve found. Pretty much sums up the foundation of my parenting. Even with my new “rule” of, you ought to only eat in the kitchen.

(My kid just made the choice to take a bag of Doritos from her room, to instead eat in the living room. I‘m calling it a win).

Todd Parr books are some of my story time favorites because they are bright and written in a totally kid-friendly way, while also covering important concepts. This one explains that differences are okay - big and small, silly and serious. Although my 6-year old now thinks he should eat macaroni and cheese in the bathtub. 😂

I totally agree with some of the other responses including The Lorax, Sneetches, and Horton Hears a Who. All amazing books. So, I had to dig deep for something different. And I chose the Todd Parr books, especially It‘s ok to be Different. Parr‘s childlike illustrations and silly text tackles serious and important issues of tolerance and understanding in a way that a child can understand.

Kindergarten book of the day! Love Todd Parr and my new littles need some friendship salad and some classroom community building! #teachersoflitsy
