Third book finished for #NovelNovember. @Andrew65
I loved this memoir by Stephen King. The tips on writing are useful, but I liked even more his comments on his most well known books and his honest thoughts about his fight with alcoholism and his recovery from a near-fatal accident.

.5/5β For a book that claims to avoid bullshit, it sure seems full of it. What a bloated and roundabout way to pretend to talk about writing. What tiny sections about writing actually exist are full of contradictions and, in my opinion, just plain bad or useless assertions. #roll100
One of the new books got delivered today:)!
Happy Birthday to Sai King, without whom I cannot imagine my reading journey! β€οΈππ§π»π»
Thanks to Stephen King‘s humor and self-deprecation, this writing βhow-to manualβ is much more engaging than one might expect. While I appreciated King‘s guidance and advice, I thoroughly enjoyed his reflections about his own journey to his successful career and the lessons he learned along the way. And how much credit (read: all of it) that he gives to his wife, the novelist Tabitha King.
A practical guide for writers, as well as a beautiful memoir about the role of writing in King‘s life and how it helped him to heal after a terrible accident. #alphabetgame #letterO @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
We are writers, and we never ask one another where we get our ideas; we know we don‘t know.
1: if I think about it, the terms are really synonymous even though I think about them differently in my mind.
2: I have published some academic articles. So I guess that makes me an author even though I don‘t really think of myself as one.
#Two4Tuesday
1. Interesting question. π€ Google suggests that an author is someone whose writing has been published, while a writer is anyone who engages in the writing process regardless of recognition or compensation.
2. When I was a kid I wanted to be a writer, but these days I mostly stick to journal entries and the occasional newsy email. #two4tuesday

Day 237.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
How can you go wrong with a book about writing from one of the most prolific, best-selling authors in America? OK, I suspect there are all kinds of ways, but never mind that. This is a great read for readers, writers, & wannabe writers.
Books about writing, King says, βare filled with bu(($&^itβ. So, he takes the approach of telling us how π©π¦ became a writer, & about how π©π¦ writes. Excellent book.

Just started reading this yesterday. Really good so far.
Motivating & insightful. King is humble, funny, human & engaging. It‘s all about the story baby. This is no writers retreat or 10 step program, it‘s not a social media gimmick, just advice and truths from one of the masters. Highly recommend if you have any creative pursuit, while I don‘t write a lot I found it very applicable to my music work.
Filing next to βDeep Work‘ and βThe War of Art‘. What it all comes down to is doing the work.
I enjoyed this, but I am not an aspiring author, so I didn't love all of it because I wasn't always the right audience for it. I enjoyed his life parts and the insights on his novels. It did serve to remind me I really need to read more King novels! I am glad I read it.
Latest #bookhaul - the top five are used books, but the bottom two are new, and acquired thanks to social media posts and reviews from other readers. I have a lot on my TBR for the new year!

At 70%, I‘m calling it quits with this one. I just can‘t get into the style of writing where there is almost an endless amount of paragraphs but not a lot of dialogue. I respect that one of the most famous authors in the world is writing a book on how to write, but if you‘re not planning on being an author, then this will kind of be a waste of time.
As a new author, I really appreciated all of Stephen King‘s insight into the writing process and found some of his suggestions extremely helpful.
Even if you‘re not the biggest Stephen King fan, could you ever deny his success?
I‘ll end with one specific quote that stood out to me: βI think you will find that, if you continue to write fiction, every character you create is partly you.β
It is neat to think of pieces of myself left in every book
Hard one to review, your mileage may vary depending on how much of a fan of Stephen King you are. As a writer in the UK, there was a lot of advice that was not relevant, or out dated.
However, King's memoir sections are interesting and endearing for the most part. I enjoyed reading the book, but at times it was a little bit of a slog.
1. Part memoir, part writing guide. One of my favorite nonfictions by Stephen King.
2. My favorite genres are horror and fantasy. Tanith Lee is a master at blending them together.
3. Harold Schechter

Fantastic book haul from my local 2nd hand bookstore!! πππ
QOTD- what is the worst Stephen King book?
Stephen King is someone both beloved by casual readers and treated like a messiah by his super fans. But why is Stephen King so successful? As someone who likes his work, but doesn‘t love it nearly as much as others do, I‘ve decided to to get to the bottom of this mystery.
1. Stephen King writes... a LOT
2. Stephen King is... consistent
3. Stephen King⦠has a genre
Continued in comments. π
Part memoir, part practical writing advice...this will inspire any would-be writer and entertain any Stephen King fan.
I‘ve been slow to the King party, but he‘s become a favourite of mine so it was interesting to peek behind the curtains .... especially the book lists he added to the end. I‘m always a sucker for a reading list and to see his was revealing.

Today I learned that Stephen King suggests putting your desk in a corner. I‘m not a writer but I love reading about how one of my favorites gets it done. #NonfictionNovember #NFN
I've been wanting to write my own book since I was about 6 years old. I've never had the guts to put my writing out there, but this book made me feel like I have the tools to start doing so. If you're an aspiring writer (or just interested in King's life), then I highly recommend this book.
Here is a photo of the awful Kindle cover featuring the blanket that Lucas is crocheting for me. π₯°
I loved this book when I read it β it‘s my favorite book about writingβ and I loved it even more after listening to it. The additions by Owen King (an essay on recording audiobooks for his dad as a kid) and Joe Hill (a recording of a joint appearance with his dad at a bookstore) are lots of fun. The book is part memoir and part practical writing advice, and a writer could do a lot worse than spending time with and learning from Stephen King,
More of On Writing today as I got to walk in another park. It was supposed to be 85 out there, but if it was I didn‘t feel it because of the great breeze. #audiowalk
Stephen King‘s book On Writing has always been one of my favorite books about writing. A lot of it is memoir but a lot of it is also about the work of writing. I decided to listen to it because it‘s been awhile. This 20th anniversary edition includes contributions from Joe Hill and Owen King β I‘m looking forward to those. #audiowalk
This is a short book because most books about writing are filled with bullshit. #stephenking

I always love listening to authors talk about their craft and how they get to the point of being a writer. It always refuesl my desire to write. Not for publication, but for myself just to write.

#3Books that were gifted to me @OriginalCyn620 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
1. My brother Mike got this for me and started my love of fantasy and a good (or a bad) pun.
2. This book started a friendship, and was my first every historical romance.
3. I'll be celebrating 18 years with the Hubs this weekend, and On Writing was the first book he ever gave me when we first started dating 20 years ago. π
