This book made me cry like a little kid, real tears and real hard. It was great, maybe not for everyone but it was perfect for me

⭐️⭐️ So I bought this book strictly because it was written by David Duchovny who I love! I knew this book wasn‘t going to be my cup of tea because I really hate sports, but I thought the father/son bonding plot line would save it for me. It did not. It takes place during the ‘78 World Series and the father is dying of lung cancer but is staying alive to see his beloved Red Sox go to the big game. This was my #doublespin book No. 20.
good story, and well-written, but I couldn‘t tell if it was intentionally pretentious because the main character was pretentious, or because the author is.
#TBR Shellie #LiteraryLuck Already reading Oreo,Trailblazer and The Lonely City.Robber Bride and Light a Penny Candle are Books I need to finish for my first quarter #Booked2019.As to Bucky, it‘s almost baseball season!Took in a Cubs/Dbacks game on Tuesday.⚾️⚾️
I actually really liked this story and am surprised at Duchovny‘s talent for writing. I‘m only marking it so-so because his descriptions of women are...bad.
I just read another contender for my favorite book of the year. I am a baseball fan, and I am a David Duchovny fan, but I didn‘t expect to love this book as much as I did. I started it last night and could not stop.
A funny, moving, beautifully written, wonderful story about family and love. And baseball. I was rooting for the damn Sox, and I‘m a hardcore Cards fan who knew how ‘78 went for Boston. 😂
Also, David‘s narration: 😍
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"In high school, he would go to the library, close his eyes, and walk blindly through the stacks, reaching his hand out, pulling a book at random, and forcing himself to read it as if sent by God."
Hey! I still do this! It's fun and a fabulous way to explore genres and topics you might otherwise avoid.
I purchased the book because I remember Bucky F*cking Dent and how he tore our Red Sox hearts up in 1978. In Boston he will forever have that middle name. Duchovny as the author was just an added bonus. If you like witty dialogue and the exploration of a father/son relationship, this book is up your alley. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story. No baseball experience necessary.
I wasn't so sure about this one, but I took a leap of faith. The book takes place in 1978 where Ted, who although estranged from his father, learns that Marty has terminal lung cancer moves back home to take care of him. When Marty starts to take a turn for the worse, Ted comes up with an idea to make his father believe that his beloved Red Sox are winning, and may be in contention for the Championship.

I ended up really liking this book, especially as an audiobook. While it definitely is a guy thing - father & son finally bond as father approaches the end of his life - it's also a really good snapshot of NYC at this time & place. Definitely worth a read/listen just for that.
And in particular, this came to life for me as we heard the father's feelings during his son's early days. If you make it that far, I think you'll find yourself hooked 🙂
A little Audible before bed.

Starting this a few days before pitchers & catchers report ⚾️
I can't believe I met David Duchovny today!!!!!!!!!!!!
Done with three days to go! I actually liked it a lot. And having David Duchovny read it to me certainly didn't hurt.
So I did a thing. I think this might be the best drunk decision I made since I set that photo of Duane "The Rock" Johnson on Splash Mountain as my phone lock screen a few years back.
At moments this was great. But the rest of the time it sounded like a mad man talking to himself.
So I'm at a Rainiers game, yet I'm still being bookish 📚. I'm sitting in the midst of librarians (because it's Library Night at the Stadium), so it's cool to talk about books still. So I made friends & talked up David Duchovny's new one. Cos that's what I do 😏⚾️📚
Found this laying around at the cabin. It's awesome if you read it in your best Duchovny impression.
**"Dios mio, you're such a prude Ted. We're just body parts, that's all we are, body parts and souls." ** I am really looking forward to talking about this one tonight at book club. It's not often I come across a character arc that makes me truly conflicted, but Mariana Blades, RN has done the job admirably and I need to talk it out.
I've been listening to the audiobook but hearing it read by him in person is even better!!! I am fangirling so hard right now. I have NEVER used that phrase before!!
Anyone near Chicago? David Duchovny is doing a reading and signing at Wilson Abbey in Uptown. I don't know if I ever want to see him if he's not being Mulder.
Just picked up this one. Has anyone read it?
Help! Crisis! Total reader's block👎🏼 All different genres and nothing is appealing. Taking them back to library today 😕
Back to our regularly scheduled program...#DD #multitalented #myeternalcrush
I love baseball books but I just don't know about this one. I'm hoping it turns around. Right now I hate the main character, which is a huge problem for me and books. 📖
Good old David Duchovny.
I wish that there was a rate the book option that expressed "loved so much that I will obnoxiously tell any looking for a book that they should read this". +
