Chicken Soup with Rice Board Book
Chicken Soup with Rice Board Book | Maurice Sendak
18 posts | 38 read | 5 to read
Chicken Soup with Rice, along with the other three classic Nutshell Library titles (Alligators All Around, One Was Johnny, and Pierre), is the first board book edition of Maurice Sendak's original work! You loved Nutshell Library as a miniature collection, and these large board books will make it even easier for children to share with their grown-up readers. For over fifty years, children have discovered that whether it's January, June, or December, every month is perfect for Chicken Soup with Rice. Maurice Sendak blends his signature artwork with rhymes you'll want to read over and overin every season.

IamIamIam 🥰🥰🥰 Oh my... I used to have this whole book memorized when my daughter was little!!! She used to look at the illustrations while I recited this from memory! 😆 2y
Eggs @IamIamIam oh yes great memories of this book, reading to my firstborn in 1974❤️📚🥰 2y
Scochrane26 This was one of my favorite childhood books, to the point that I remembered the name. Only on the last couple of years, did I realize it was by Sendak. 2y

Another one memorized 💁🏻‍♀️. I‘m going to pretend like it was hard work.

Fun fact: my all-time favorite food is chicken and rice (rice with cream of chicken soup—with added chicken—poured on top), and I‘m pretty sure this book is largely responsible. Loved it as a kid, love it now, and I‘m glad I can share it with my son in a board book.

cobwebmoth This was one of my favorite books as a kid!😊 6y

💛 nothing specific, though I'm stressed when individuals (real or fictitious) in books take life threatening risks or stay in their ruts and refuse intervention or support, thus hurting those around them

This F book reminds me of TL in that it weaves the classic theme of learning the months with a dish many Americans are surely familiar with: chicken soup. This book is great to go along with Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen.

Here is a link to information on the new book to be released in 2018

StephanieP This definitely brings back many memories and is a great read for students! I definitely think having this collection in your class library is great for variety! 7y
Ashleywwolfe It would be really cool to have 🍜 with it for a classroom lunch for a Friday! Kids ❤️❤️ to have lunch with their teacher :) 7y
SamanthaPuglisi I like that this book teachers the months of the year! It could be valuable in a Kindergarten classroom for students who aren't familiar with them yet. 7y
casandraopont @gracemccleskey this is definitely a snug and cuddle book. I love the illustrations, and I can't wait to read it to my children. 7y
DrSpalding You did such a beautiful job storytelling this book! Classic choice @gracemccleskey 7y

emtobiasz If you don't know Carole King's sung version of this book, seek it out! I think it's on YouTube. I listened to it in 1st grade and still remembered the tune this year when I thought to look it up ☺️ 7y
Dragon ❤️ this book and chicken and rice was my favourite Campbell's soup 🍜 because of this book 📚 7y
