The Wolf (The UNDER THE NORTHERN SKY Series, Book 1)
The Wolf (The UNDER THE NORTHERN SKY Series, Book 1) | Leo Carew
20 posts | 10 read | 49 to read
Leo Carew's debut novel The Wolf, the first book in the Under the Northern Sky series, is a masterpiece in epic historical fantasy - a new voice to rival David Gemmell or George RR Martin. Violence and death have come to the land under the Northern Sky. The Anakim dwell in the desolate forests and mountains beyond the black river, the land under the Northern Sky. Their ancient ways are forged in Unthank silver and carved in the grey stone of their heartland, their lives measured out in the turning of centuries, not years. By contrast, the Sutherners live in the moment, their vitality much more immediate and ephemeral than their Anakim neighbours. Fragile is the peace that has existed between these very different races - and that peace is shattered when the Suthern armies flood the lands to the north. These two races revive their age-old hatred and fear of each other. Within the maelstrom of war, two leaders will rise to lead their people to victory. Only one will succeed. The Wolf is a thrilling, savagely visceral, politically nuanced and unexpectedly wry exploration of power and identity - and how far one will go to defend them.

Finished this last knight while it was well written, contained great characters and a great world… it didn‘t hit the way I wanted it to … still a great read though 😊🙌🏽

A very good political fantasy/historical fiction novel. There is no magic here, instead the world is an alternate medieval Scandinavia where Neanderthals were not extinct and they battle with Humans for supremacy. Very interesting character building, political intrigue and some action sequences. I look forward to continuing the series. 4⭐️

Aw hell, I went and bought more books. I‘ve been wanting to reread ALL (because my soul needs shredding, apparently), I‘ve been curious about Anne Bishop‘s non-Others work, and The Wolf sounded interesting. Though when I‘ll have time 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ #stacksonstacksonstacks

I thought The wolf was a good book. It had plenty of battles to keep you interested. It wasn‘t my favorite read but I liked it enough that I will get the second book when it comes out in July.

“What are you doing here tekoasdottir” he asked coldly. Keturah pretended to look startled and surveyed her surroundings. “ How odd, Tribune, I thought I was in the market. Wait...” She cast around again. “Yes, I am in fact in the market. So I‘m trading.”

Love Keturah‘s sass in this book #sass

Didn't know what to expect going in but I greatly enjoyed this book. Definitely has some Game of Thrones elements in there as well as some other fantasy inspirations. However I still found it fresh and original. I want to know more of the history of the land and its occupants, but I feel that will be coming. The pacing and action was very well done and I never felt bored or stalled while reading this. Definitely would recommend.

I always look for certain items in a book for instance did I learn something was it entertaining or enjoyable was the storyline believable where the characters well developed and finally was it engaging. After all of the book would I recommend this to my closest friend. Fortunately for The Wolf all of these apply 😋 the storyline reminds me of Excalibur or a less complicated game of thrones but very well written 😋👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Cathythoughts I don‘t usually read this style of book. But I‘m stacking ! Maybe I should try something different 👍🏻 6y

I must say I am super impressed!! The extras in here are all really nifty and perfect for me, I LOVE that they support children‘s literacy programs around the world, and I‘m just 🙀at the idea of getting to read all the authors‘ little notes throughout the story!!#MyPageHabit

Purrsistently I gave it a shot with an “extra book” promotion (the wolf- I got the sci fi subscription), if you‘d like to give a try $10 off here‘s my link (I get $10 off my next one too :3) https://pagehabit.com/accept-invite?inviter=130143&platform_id=00&product_id=936... 6y

This is set in an alternative medieval earth, where different races of men exist. And this is about the clash between two of them. It's full of military strategy, philosophy, political intrigue, and cultural differences. It's dark and gritty as well. No magic systems, just an alternative military fantasy setting. I look forward to the next book in the series.
