While I was out today I got a call to say my brother was rushed to hospital early this morning and was in theatre with a ruptured bowel. He‘s only out of surgery. They‘re currently waiting on him waking up. Surgeons won‘t commit to how well or bad surgery went until he wakes. They had to open him up from stomach to chest. His organs are compromised and he has septicaemia. He will have a colostomy bag for life if he pulls through. He‘s only 35. ...

DeborahSmall So when I got home today I found this wonderful parcel from @Sarah83 some great poetry. One by the the greatest ever, Robert Burns of course and a gorgeous Folio of William McGonagall with a great foreword by Spike Milligan. Also 14 mini tote bags!! I‘ll have to find some creative ways to make use of them. Sophie has claimed one as a book sleeve so that‘s a start. Thank you so much Sarah ❤️❤️ 7y

I‘m pretty much in shock, we all are. 2 of my sisters were able to get through to Glasgow from Edinburgh to be with my mum even although the weather is crazy and travelling not advised at present. Typical. Hard for myself and Belinda to not be there with them, nothing we can do with kids at school ❤️ 7y

DeborahSmall Thank you everyone as usual I‘m overwhelmed with your kind messages. I‘m just off the phone to my mum. He‘s in intensive care, he‘s not very lucid but is awake. The doctors are still worried about his organs shutting down. @tricours he had an emergency appendectomy back in October and the surgeon ‘nicked‘ his bowel, this in turn meant he developed a fistula. They treated him for a while but not much came of it until now 👇🏼 7y

Melkyl You and your families lot are in my thoughts. 7y

DeborahSmall The big worry is treating the septicaemia and peritonitis, they struggled with treating his infection after the appendectomy because of his compromised immune system; At 29 he was diagnosed with cancer but was lucky enough to get the all clear just last summer. Unfortunately all the radiotherapy messed with his immune system. If they don‘t find a cocktail of antibiotics that work then infection could be fatal. 💕 7y

He‘ll be in intensive care 3/4 days minimum. He was devastated to hear that he‘d have a colostomy bag for life. Will be a difficult adjustment for him 7y

LauraBeth Glad he‘s stable @DeborahSmall. I know it‘s not worth hearing - but - my husband had something tragic happen to him when he was in his mid 30s and he woke up to a colostomy bag. He was able to emotionally adjust to it rather quickly. He quickly realized that if it was that vs death - he‘d take it. It sucks for your brother, I know, and I hate it for him - and he‘ll have some tough days but I can promise that it isn‘t the end of the world. ❤️❤️ 7y

DeborahSmall @LauraBeth thanks, William also suffers from depression, he seems very angry today which is hard for my Mum to deal with. Hopefully he‘ll be out of intensive care in a few days xx 7y

LauraBeth @DeborahSmall make sure they continue his depression meds while he‘s at the hospital. My mom‘s doctors somehow messed that up and she missed a lot of doses, which had a profound effect on her mentally. 7y

DeborahSmall @MicheleinPhilly he‘s still in icu but stable and seems to be recovering well. My mum said he seems very angry. I think she‘s had to take the brunt of it. Think he‘s out of danger now so that‘s all that matters 😘 7y
