pickAnother of the many rereads I started months ago and have been reading on and off ever since. She and her work have always spoken to me, but I don‘t know if I‘ve ever identified with her personally through her poems quite as deeply as I do at this particular moment in my life. Then again, maybe with the really great writers you feel that all over again each time you read them.

I can‘t listen to music while I read. My ADD brain just isn‘t up to the challenge. But that doesn‘t mean my reading doesn‘t influence my listening choices. Hardly a week goes by when I‘m not inspired by what I‘m reading to seek out a new band, a playlist, or an old favorite.

Once, when I was young and true,

I like the "why the hell not" attitude of this poem. It encompasses the "better to love and lost, than to never have loved at all" idea.
