I can't believe it's been 6 months since I posted last on litsy. And 5 months since I last read a book! I've never gone more than a week without reading a novel. What happened to me?! 😨
I guess I have to join some readathons to catch up.😁

I'm breaking my unintentional book break with this one here!

"...No one can own a story any more than we can own people. Once created, stories are free living beings with their own journeys... ".

This lovely newspaper article titled 'How the Buddha became a Christian saint' is about how stories travel and adapt to circumstances and finally return to their home country in an almost unrecognizable format.

Bestseller | Ahmed Faiyaz
Mehso-so

Bestseller is filled with sarcastic jokes but it's not laugh out loud funny. I found Akshay quite cynical sometimes. He definitely has a way of getting under one's skin. I would've appreciated the book more had the author brought in more Indian themes. The cover design of the book had a very interesting concept which became more clear when I read the book. On the whole it was a good light read.
Rating - 3/5

olivia.ferz Storyline (since the book isn't listed on Litsy's catalogue) : Akshay Mathur, a recently divorced and unemployed man in his mid 30s, moves to India from London in the hopes of beginning anew. Becoming the editor of a crumbling Indian publishing firm, he has to bring out a bestseller in order to ressurrect his dying career which is further complicated by his personal life.

Coming from a place and community where arranged marriages are a way of life and completely normal, I understand Lena's exasperation. 'Love marriages' are usually frowned upon and considered as western culture by conservative Indians. I'm not trying to generalize over here but it's definitely not uncommon.

BTW, I'm loving this book!

1. From Kerala, India
2. Does Narnia count?😁 Or if I'm stuck here, then maybe I'll do some travelling and then decide which is a better fit.
3. Ooo, haven't read a book in a while. The last one was in Oxford, I think.
4. The typical Malayali dishes are probably Dosa with sambhar or chutney, Appam with stew, Pathiri....
5. @jenniferw88 @LapReader @wanderinglynn Hey guys! Wanna try this out?

Funny observation. I always thought it was the opposite. You gotta have at least a little imagination to make up a lie, right?
(Chapter 15 : The Dæmon Cages)

sudi True, to be a liar they will have some level of imagination. I guess the author has other ideas 😄 1y
olivia.ferz @sudi Maybe😂. I asked my sister this and she said that if you're imaginative then you make up all sort of details to make the other person believe you while if you aren't, you'd not try as hard and therefore it ends up being actually believable. 😑😑 But I'm not sure if I'm happy with that answer! 1y
julesG @olivia.ferz That's what I've heard, too. Lies have too much detail. 1y
sudi @olivia.ferz @julesG adding details makes a lie more believeable but sometime people go overboard with the details and then it doesn't take long for the other person to figure out their lying. Maybe too much imagination makes you a bad liar, but only if it's too much not otherwise. 1y
Bookishthoughts You have to be a good manipulator, to be a good liar. So on some levels you'd have to have a good imagination. But really you just need to know how to read a person.😕 There are so many books about lairs it's funny!😄 1y

Deanna Beauforte is loyal to her family. She loves her grandmama and her sisters with all her heart, even though her eccentric grandma constantly tries to set her up with rich eligible men.
Mitchell Graves is a rich but arrogant man who disregards tradition but requires a temporary wife for a business deal. And so, an interesting contract arises between Deanna and Mitchell.
On the whole, an interesting and quick read with a predictable ending.
