I enjoy Westerfeld‘s writing a lot. It‘s quick paced, it‘s easy, it has good tone. Afterworlds is a book within a book, and quite a long read but worth it. It was honestly nice to be surrounded by Darcy and her writing world, because it made me feel more connected to my writing life, which I‘ve been feeling a bit disconnected from. Fun read. This book was incredibly meta and pretty clever but overall a bit of a drag. It was interesting seeing how the real world events affected each chapter of Darcy‘s book and how exactly it reflected on how she took each real world happening.

It is impossible to read with Rex lying across my book. I hate to move him, though. He‘s purring. 🥰

3.75⭐️ 2 stories for the price of one!! A romp with a psychopomp and the story of its debut author. Inventive, a bit strange, but likeable!!

Love, love, love this book. Both stories could be amazing novels separately but the way they mesh together is like book magic 😍❤️

I absolutely loved this book. Something that a lot of people don‘t understand in this book, is that in the alternating chapters, is Darcy‘s novel about Lizzie. The chapters about Lizzie have been critiqued as amateur and underdeveloped writing. While it is technically written by a seasoned professional author (Scott Westerfeld), it is SUPPOSED to seem amateur. It‘s supposed to seem written in 30 Days, by a first-time author (Darcy Patel).

While I enjoyed the book as a whole I definitely was more interested in Darcy‘s story she was writing and in the logistics of book sales then anything else.

1st off I'm a fan of Westerfeld but this one is a complete miss for me. Characters are self indulgent, settings are superficial and trite, the authors story seems very convenient while the Afterworld story throws in (or up) all the stereotypes of the genre. I'd read a review while I was wondering why I kept reading which asked if this is a YA parody... I can only hope it was. Only the completist in me kept me reading- sadly.

This book just gave me all the warm feels. Darcy and Imogen are the best couple I've read in a book so far. This book just gives me all the energy I need to start preparing for nanowrimo this year as well.

The chapters set in the novel-within-a-novel take place in a sort of #afterlife. #JuneTunz

I wanted Elizabeth's story to continue most of all.

This was in Book Riot's "addictive audiobook" list. Loved the alternating perspectives between the author, Darcy, and chapters of the novel she was writing. At times, I thought Darcy's novel seemed a bit juvenile, but it made sense as Darcy was only 17 when she wrote it. Definitely addictive, finished the whole audiobook in only two days!

I found this gorgeous book at a book swap and I'm really excited about it. It sounds a little bit like Inkspell, except there's one person who is writing a story and another person who is living it. It sounds really interesting and I loved the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld so I'm excited to give this one a go.

Hope everyone had a great holiday! I'm staying with my mom for a week & dragging her to every bookstore in a 50 mile radius. Good thing I'm her favorite! Well, second favorite. Her chihuahua Frodo gets first place even though he's a Venti Cujo in an 8 oz cup.

Happy writing to everyone participating in this year's National novel writing month (Nano Writmo) I'm tentatively giving it a shot, but going for a half goal of 25,000 words ... because I need my baby to sleep through the night before I have any real focus. 🙈

Afterworlds was a slow start for me, but it definitely made up for it once it started to pick up. Each part kept me going and entertained simply from the paranormal experience and the literature experience. Both fascinate me. #youngadult

This is a book for readers who love the YA-ness of YA fiction and aspiring YA writers. The two stories are both well crafted and interesting. I loved and laughed at all the YA publishing talk, but found it incredibly informative and helpful. I wasn't super surprised by the ending, but I really enjoyed all of it. 4 stars.

This was tough, I'm between a 4 star and 3.5 here. It wasn't his best, it dragged at times and realistically the writer protagonist was annoying in moments. Maybe I'm judging a little harshly but really I'm on the fence about really liking and just liking. Does that make sense? 😝

Next up on my top 10 tbr list is this gem. I loved this author of uglies, let's see about this one!

I attended Barnes and Noble's teen book festival last weekend with my teenage brother. He won a gift bag. Has anyone heard of or read Afterworlds?

Scott can never go wrong in my world. Ever. This was constructed interestingly: alternating between the story focuses on a young author and her story itself. I didn't like the young authors story but I found her life to be very well written! Kudos to realistic women written by men!

Looking forward to reading all these! 'Twas a good day for a trip to the bookstore.
