We got a shelf to go over our tv and I made a little Jurassic park display!

I hit a new high (low?) in book buying. The mail lady just handed me the whole tub since it was all for me. I love working at a bookstore, employee discounts are the best. (And by the best I mean A Major Problem.) 10 more letters and my Penguin Drop Caps set is complete!
Why yes, I am Harry Potter thank you very much. 😂This is not the first time I've gotten something close to a 50/50 split on a sorting quiz but usually slytherin has the slight edge. 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
I spent a lot of this month reading through the comics I got for Christmas! The 63 page book was Beauty Salon by Mario Bellatin and the longest was The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. 99% sure my February longest will be the sequel. I didn't include written by women because I'm embarrassed to say it was... apparently... 1 book. No excuses for that At All. I will do better in February.
While my roommate set up for our first ever D&D night, I ran to the library to "pick up my holds". Of course stopping by for two items turned into browsing for eight. Could be worse?
Got this done yesterday! I looooovvvveeeeee ittttt. I wasn't sure what kind of tattoo I wanted until the drive to the shop when this just sort of came to me. Simultaneously represents my love for hitchhiker's guide and reminds me to calm the eff down 😂big thanks to Joel at Empyrean Tattoo in Atlanta
My self control took a day off so I spent $20 of my Christmas money on this book even though I could have gotten it for closer to $5 if I'd waited for it to come in at work. But reading it is fun and I have 2+ animals on top of me at all times so no complaints 😅Featured here are Frodo and Tyrion.
Hope everyone had a great holiday! I'm staying with my mom for a week & dragging her to every bookstore in a 50 mile radius. Good thing I'm her favorite! Well, second favorite. Her chihuahua Frodo gets first place even though he's a Venti Cujo in an 8 oz cup.
OH MAN THIS BOOK THAT ENDING AHHHHHH. I liked it so much I think I'm going to go out and buy a copy to keep after I return this to the library tomorrow.
Anyone know any neat looking editions of The Princess Bride? I'm not impressed with the one from the folio society and I definitely can't afford the easton press. I keep thinking of great Christmas gift ideas that apparently don't exist! 😖
Sorry for the bland carpet background. But aren't these neat! I collect the Barnes and Noble leatherbound classics and as it turns out they have two editions of my all time favorite book so of course I bought both. I think I probably like the green one better. What do you think?
I don't know if this will make sense to anyone else but after I finished the first chapter of Mongrels last night I had to stop reading immediately and clean my room. It was maybe my favorite first chapter of anything I've ever read? I'm not sure if I want to continue because my expectations are now way too high.
Ahead of schedule is certainly one way to put it!! I think this is the most books I've ever managed to read in one year! I'm hoping I'll hit 175 though I've kind of stalled out and this month I haven't read any yet.
This is the illustration on my copy of The Call of the Wild. Not Cujo-- The Call of the Wild. #uglycover
Seriously enjoying this book so far. Silas, on the other hand, wants to bite it.
I will probably finish An Ember in the Ashes tonight, but whatever! I'm happy with fifteen!
This was such a sweet book, I'm so glad it exists. Plus! The audio is narrated by a trans woman so extra points.
So I've started collecting the Barnes & Noble leather bound editions. They're not the best quality but they come in used at my bookstore and I can usually grab them for like $5-10 with my discount. This is my spreadsheet of the ones I'm looking for. Green means I really want it, prices are based on current Amazon rates. Basically I feel like the nerdiest human ever today.
My September reading goal is to finish all the YA books that I have on my TBR shelf. Any recommendations on which I should start with?
This book is beyond amazing. Probably/definitely my favorite read of the year so far. Aliens!!!! AI!!!! Space!!!! Negotiating yourself out of tense circumstances!!! All the things I love!!!!
Happy #funphotofriday ! I actually read this last night and it's the perfect cold weather read. A graphic novel about growing up & first loves.
I love/hate working at a bookstore. On the one hand, all of this was less than $12!!! On the other hand, that was $12 I really should not have spent on more books.
I went to a public library yesterday for the first time since I was 7 years old. I got a library card, checked out a comic book and a new release (My Best Friend's Exorcism) AND FOUND OUT THEIR LENDING APP HAS ALL OF ELENA FERRANTE'S BOOKS ON AUDIO FOR FREE IMMEDIATE DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!?
So the first third of this book was underwhelming. The second third picked up a bit, more like your average sci-fi thriller type thing. But then. The third third. Blew. My. Mind. SO GOOD. I can't wait to watch the movie that this will surely one day be.
Oh boy I sure did like this one. For once, a story about a fat character that isn't about trying to lose the weight and/or fit in & make friends. Drama occurs, mistakes are made, beauty queens are crowned, and drag queens are consulted. So fun. Hit a little close to home in places but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I wanted to love this book but I did not. The 1001 nights angle took a back seat to a mediocre love story. I loved the main character and I even liked the king, but I didn't find a whole lot of substance here.
Remember when I said working in a bookstore is bad for me? It really is. New purchases this week. My total TBR library is now over 70 books. Plus I just signed up for Net Galley. Ahhhhhhhhhh. But also: it's a good problem to have. #tbrtuesday
Help!!!!! Does anyone have a suggestion for a long (13 hours or more) audiobook I could listen to? I was going to do Homegoing but based on the reviews it seems like that's one I should read rather than listen to.
Weirdly relevant to my life even if it's about boozey superpowers. Sometimes a bit too much silly but mostly just a delight. Definitely recommended.
Man, that ending! I've been reading a lot of horror lately and this was definitely a good one. I'm not sure I know what happened in it but I liked it!!!
The premise on this one is amazing. A small town dealing with its resident witch via technology? Sign me up. The pacing wasn't the best and there were some weird bits, but I still liked it.
I think my expectations on this one were set too high after all the buzz. I definitely liked it, but for me it was basically a fluffy summer read. 3.5⭐️
What do I like to read about? I couldn't think of anything more specific than YA! I love all YA. This is my bookshelf dedicated to all YA. it's not pretty but I still love it!
This is a good (though somber) read for pride month. Fitting for this most somber of all pride months, I suppose. My only complaint is that I found it to be a bit overwritten in some places, though not fatally so.
It's funny, this is the third book about surviving a tragedy told from multiple perspectives that I've read in the last few months. If you like Everything I Never Told You and/or Did You Ever Have a Family, you'll probably enjoy this one too, though it's faster paced and more thriller-y than those.
Fun Friday! The brown one is mine! His name is Silas after the character in TGB. The orange one is my roommate's cat Washington. They Do Not Get Along so it's amazing I managed to get this picture at all.
I love Libba Bray (especially the Diviners series) and I loved this book. I think satire is underused in the YA genre and I'd love to see more like this especially when it comes to pointing out how messed up society's expectations for women are. Plus!!!! Really diverse characters!!! Love this book.
I think this book is what I wanted The Regional Office is Under Attack! to be. While I liked troiua I was never all that invested in the characters. I didn't REALLY care how it ended. This one had me on the edge of my seat. Supernatural-in-the-real-world-weirdness!!!
I loved this book. It's the story of a woman who loses everything from a bunch of different perspectives. It's sad but it doesn't reach the level of emotional-ness that Everything I Never Told You does. That's not a criticism; if every sad book was as sad as EINTY I'd never read sad books.
TBR Tuesday AKA having a job at a bookstore is a terrible idea and I am bad. Before the Fall is my next pick after I finish All the Birds in the Sky.
Maybe it's just the whole satire-for-teens angle but this sort of reminded me of Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. I love the cover. I loved the multi-layered look at fandom and obsession. It wasn't perfect, I'd probably rate it at a 3.5, but it's still worth a read.
This is one of those books where you can tell the author had So Much Fun writing it. I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, and the well-drawn settings. A great summer read for anyone who hasn't gotten to it yet!
My first Fun Friday! This might not be my favorite ending ever but it's def my favorite ending recently!
In my opinion, this book was a home run (ha ha). The characters were complicated and true-to-life which is pretty much all you can ask for in one of these meandering university dramas. Plus, I'm a huge fan of Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany and this was full of references.
My quick LGBT YA picks for June 1st! I'm sure there are more I'd recommend but these are the first ones that jumped out at me when I checked my bookshelf.
I'm of two minds about this book. I liked it. Like, a lot. But there was so much build up in the first half that lead to kind of nothing in the second half. In the end, though, it's different and interesting and generally worth reading. Plus: it's a beautiful thing to hold and behold.
