bailedWhile I've enjoyed Meltzer's non-fiction work, The First Conspiracy & The Lincoln Conspiracy, and Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators, I just can't get into this.
I just can't...when I realized a) this reads like an episode of National Treasure and b) I've been working on this for two weeks(!!)...well, it was time to bail.
This one either wasn't for me or it's the wrong book at the wrong time. Either way, I won't be picking this one up again.
The Escape Artist is taking forever-I'm hoping the beginning was just slow. We'll see if I put Escape Artist back for later or just DNF it in the next couple of days or manage to finish.
I've gotten a couple of books in that I do want to read before they are due back (The Investigator, for instance).

pickThis was my first read by Brad Meltzer and it did not disappoint. His writing is right up there with David Baldacci. Jim Zig is a mortician for the U.S. Government. One of the bodies, Nola Brown, ends up to possibly be not what it seems. This read gives me a lot of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo vibes. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.
pickI honestly enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would. I definitely called a lot of the twists but it was a lot of fun.

pickI really enjoyed this book. It was easy and fast-paced which lead me to finish it in 2 days; however, I don‘t know how I feel about the use of ending the chapters with rhetorical questions. Yes, it added to the dramatic effect of the novel, but shortly after the question was posed, the answer was immediately given in the next chapter‘s first page. Besides this, it was an awesome story line and I highly recommend this book.
Just started this one. Got it at the Barnes and Noble 50% sale over the weekend. Thought I needed and escape. 😜🙄
pickZig works as a mortician for the government and takes pride in taking care of the fallen. Nola knew Zigs daughter and now she is in Zigs hands after her death. Problem arises, this isn‘t the Nola who Zig knew. Good story with some mortician science and some historical Houdini stories to make a good mystery.
pickReasonably satisfying. You wonder how much, if any, is true.
pickPlot: damn. Also, for authors looking for examples of omniscient POV that isn't jarring, this one's valuable for that. I enjoyed the female protag's chapters more than the male's. #Audiobooks #Libby #AudioPuzzling #Mysteries #MilitaryThriller

pickAnother great book by Meltzer, The Escape Artist has some very memorable characters, deeply flawed and vulnerable, and a story that not just just thrills, but teaches you something along the way.
bailedI had read prologue & Chapter 1 online & was excited to get this from the library. 146 pages in I bailed. The pace of the promising beginning did not hold up & I didn‘t care for his writing style.
After attending the signing I‘m really looking forward to reading Meltzer‘s latest “The Escape Artist”.
pickThis was an excellent read w/very engaging and unique characters (Nola and Zig). The plot moves at a great pace w/short chapters that make you want to read on. I found this book to be unputdownable and loved reading about Dover Delaware's military morgue. I haven't read Brad Meltzer's other books book I definitely will put them in my TBR pile. I enjoyed his writing. I would highly recommend this book to those who like gripping mystery thrillers.

pickNola and Zig have nothing or no one in common, except Maggie. She‘s been gone for years. Nola‘s on a military plane that crashes and her body comes to Zig. He notices something‘s not right and becomes involved in a caper that may be deadly. Great book that incorporates spies and magicians. 🎩
