'There was a smell in the air of tar and rope and rusted chain, a smell of tidal water. Down harbour, around the point, was the open sea. Here was the freedom I desired, long sought-for, not yet known. Freedom to write, to walk, to wander, freedom to climb hills, to pull a boat, to be alone . . . I for this, and this for me.' Daphne du Maurier lived in Cornwall for most of her life. Its rugged coastline, wild terrain and tumultuous weather inspired her imagination, and many of her works are set there, including Rebecca, Jamaica Inn and Frenchman's Creek. In Vanishing Cornwall she celebrates the land she loved, exploring its legends, its history and its people, eloquently making a powerful plea for Cornwall's preservation.

Long rock in Cornwall today. #VirtualTour

How was Tuesday? Got the hospital text done and out of the way. Hopefully will allow me to relax more during the second half of the half-term week, although already know will be down by two staff did to isolating.

#DailyCheckIn

CocoReads Not bad. Utter chaos at work up until about 2 but now it‘s not bad 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Good that things have improved now. 4y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Today seems like Idiot's Day Out as I've encounterd more than my usual share of them. Busy day in the office, but not much actual productivity. Hey, if bosses want me to waste time on stupid tasks & calls, so be it. Another cool & gloomy day. Hope to call it quits soon to head home for dinner, puppy cuddles, and a movie. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Been wet and rainy all day, need sun! ☀️ (edited) 4y
TheSpineView Busy day at the office. Caught up at the moment but that will not last long. I still need to write a few book reviews. I always seem to be behind on those.🤪 4y
kezzlou85 Wet day but a good one as visited my local library. Gotta keep supporting them in these tough times. 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Months since I‘ve been in a library. Such limited hours that don‘t fit with working hours. 4y
TrishB @Andrew65 that‘s why I never get to the library! Tiring day as I‘ve had a couple of days off and forget how exhausting looking at a screen all day is! 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 ah yes of course. I'm lucky to be able to go but I've only been picking up books pre ordered so far. Not stopped for a proper browse yet. 4y
tracey38 Gonna be a busy work week and also the last week my mom will be staying with me before she can go home and doesn't need full time help. 4y
Lynnsoprano @kezzlou85 Hubby and I are doing the same, putting holds on books and picking up when notified that they‘re available. Not ready to browse yet, even though we‘ve seen the industrial size jugs of hand sanitizer 😄 4y
Lynnsoprano @andrew65 Warm and sunny here. Still being careful of my knee, but did a little gardening, trimming the banana AGAIN! Recorded another song for the church service, tried out a new microphone arrangement that didn‘t work, so back to the little mic in my iPhone earphones. 4y
kezzlou85 @Lynnsoprano yeah ours has them too but I'm still a bit hesitant. Plus its all on one floor now so feels a bit crowded. Easier to just order and collect. 4y

Constantine and Treyarnon in Cornwall. #VirtualTour

How was your Friday? Got through my 3 1/2 hour appraisal, and very successful it was. Now I just need to relax and recuperate after a very tough week. Have relocated to a larger room, the staff room we are not using at the moment, needs a bit of work but feels much better than the prison cell I was located in. Better Mental Health already despite area growing to 40 cases per 100,00 this week.

IamIamIam I swear, I don't sit on my phone waiting to respond immediately to your posts... 😂😂 Better day today, shopping for my daughter's communion next week, going apple picking tomorrow if the farms aren't too packed. 4y
BookwormM Glad to hear you had a successful day. Work still quiet but going to enjoy weekend and not worry 4y

TheSpineView Wonderful news on your appraisal! Congrats! Long week and I am ready for the weekend! 4y
TheBookHippie Yay!!!!!! I found one marble each for us. Here‘s to the weekend !! 4y
CocoReads A pleasant day off today since I‘m working this weekend. Only got a smidgon if the stuff on my list done but I scored Lysol wipes at the store! The first I‘ve seen in months (other than the scare supply at work). Now if only I could find the spray. It‘s also my dads birthday so headed to my sisters in a few hours for some socially distanced celebrating. 4y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam Sounds great, enjoy your weekend! 4y
Andrew65 @BookwormM That will be good! 👍 4y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView Thanks, I‘m glad that the weekend is here. Need to recuperate! 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie One is better than none! 😍 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Enjoy the celebration. 😊 4y
TheBookHippie @CocoReads SCORE!!!!!!! Lysol! Wow 4y
TrishB Glad the day was ok! 4y
kezzlou85 Well the weather has been awful and the power has now gone off. Yay. Hopefully its only temporary. Plus the roof is leaking. This has not been my week. 4y
MsMelissa Glad to hear your Friday went well 😊 I‘m exhausted. It‘s been a long week! I‘m so happy that I‘m now sitting in my reading spot with a book at hand. 4y
Andrew65 @Book_Fiend_Melissa Thanks, yes sitting here feeling very tired too. Have a great weekend. 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB Thanks, have a good weekend. 😊 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Hopefully next week is better. 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 thanks, I'm hoping so. 4y
JacqMac Yay, for the good day. I actually tried to get out in the sunshine today. Went for a couple of walks in the crisp air. Snow will be here before we know it. I‘m still having trouble concentrating on reading for very long. I hope that comes back. 4y
Lynnsoprano So glad you had a good day. Crazy busy but great day here. Hubby‘s birthday, nice dinner with @Alisnazzy and her son, FaceTime call with our son and granddaughter. Enjoy your weekend. About to collapse now 😄 4y

Today we are in Trevone in Cornwall. #DailyTour

How has Tuesday been? A busy day for me full of Virtual Meetings. Now hear tonight a positive case in the secondary (high) school over the field from us. All too close! The new measures announced by the Prime Minister are a joke and are not going to stop anything! 🙈😡

#DailyCheckIn

TrishB I‘m so weary of it all Andrew. You‘re right in the front line and must be feeling the pressure, I know it‘s childish and naive but I just want it all to be over. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yikes! That new case is too close for comfort. I hope it doesn't multiply. I did most of my work so I'm hopeful that the next 80 minutes are quiet so I can stor on my couch & read until quitting time, then read some more. 😁 My guy will be home early for once, so maybe I'll convince him we need a walk to the ice cream shop and a movie night at home. 4y

TheSpineView I saw on the news that the UK was going to move to level 4. Not surprised. Just stay safe. Thankful I don't work with the public. I feel for you and others who do. Sick of this and mad that politicians are making everything about this virus political. Why can't they do what is best for the people?!? Over this!😤 4y
BookwormM Work quiet which is always a worry. Boris‘ announcement at 8pm didn‘t really mention the new rules at all just basically behave yourself. No idea where I stand now on the wfh front . 4y
CocoReads Another busy day but frustrating as it was one of those days where I felt like I was getting nowhere. Sorry about the case close to you-it‘s very wortisome 4y
Lynnsoprano I read about UK restrictions earlier. Please stay safe! I feel guilty saying it was a great day here. Beautiful weather, cooler and lower humidity. We walked 4 miles, spent much of the afternoon reading outdoors on the patio. So concerned for you and everyone in stressful situations. 😘 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB Not childish or naive as I feel the same! In fact I think it‘s quite natural! Sure I‘m being talked about tonight as Imposed face masks for all parents that drop-off and pick-up children. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Unfortunately multiplying quite fast in local area at the moment. 4y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView So am I! 😔 And only week 4! 4y
Andrew65 @BookwormM Did say if can work from home and work in an office you should do so gives you more power to request this. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Very! Only a matter of time before a case in the school. Many schools already had them. 4y
Andrew65 @Lynnsoprano Never feel guilty 👍 Just make the most of those days for me as well! Trying best to stay safe but far from easy. 4y
kezzlou85 The prime minister doesn't seem to have a clue. I keep waiting for a case at the schools here. Many are off trying to get a test. It seems like cos case numbers are low here they've sent tests elsewhere. 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 He‘s coming across as very weak. No excuse for the testing debacle six months on. The system has tried to book test appointments for our parents in Inverness - only a 800 mile round trip! Waited a week for a test result on one member of staff, after 5 days another was told the test was lost and she had to go for another test. Don‘t know what we are meant to do without teachers or any extra funding for PPE, teacher cover etc... 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 its just nuts. Here people just can't get a test and if by some miracle they do its taken days to get a result. Its not fair on schools. The government want them open but aren't willing to help them. 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Summed it up in a nut shell. 4y
Eggbeater I am so sorry. I have so much love and respect for educators right now. I'm in the US. Things are...messy here too at the moment. I get it. 4y
tracey38 My mom got discharged tonight so I ran home after work and got my packed bag and am at my mom's now for at least the next week and a half. 4y
TheBookHippie Son has allergies scratchy throat runny nose this counts as two things on the do not go to school list and possibly for 14 days which also means I cannot go it‘s chaos calling all doctors in the am. Allergy season here for most has been really bad this year so until the ground freezes we could be banned from school 🤯 4y
TheBookHippie Andrew our school and college numbers climb slowly daily I think we‘re headed up quicker the longer we‘re in school. Sending all my positive vibes your way 😝 we will get through I keep saying 🤷🏽‍♀️ 4y
Andrew65 @tracey38 That‘s great news 😊 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie That wouldn‘t stop him going to school in England, has to be persistent cough (coughing a lot for over an hour, or 3 coughing episodes in 24 hours), high temperature (over 37.8 degrees) or loss of taste or smell. Otherwise can go to school. If symptoms need to organise a test, not allowed in for 10 days. Rest of household isolate for 14 days. 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Our attendance 95.4% at last check but wouldn‘t be surprised now if some start to keep them off. Nationally at 88%. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @Eggbeater Thanks 😊 4y
gradcat Happy to hear you are holding up well amongst it all, @Andrew65 & sorry you didn‘t have your motor home vacation this summer, but next summer you‘ll have a nice, fresh new vehicle to vacay in (at least, that‘s what you‘re hoping for, right?), if I‘m understanding your correctly. Take care & hang in there knowing that all of us appreciate everything you do!! ♥️ (edited) 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 can get letter assuring it‘s allergies must also get tested for Covid 🤷🏽‍♀️ like all fall??? Waiting on reply.. no fever normal other than seasonal allergy 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie It‘s all a mess. Don‘t know what we‘ll do in November, December, January and February! 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 We will all be home 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤯 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie I don‘t know about you but i‘m struggling with it all! In week 4 and already feel burnt out and empty. (edited) 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 I‘ve lost every last marble I am not doing well with the no stress either 😝 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Whilst searching for yours if you find mine, please send them on! 4y

Today Pengirt Cove and Guglane. #VirtualTour

How has Tuesday been? A round of online meetings fir me and tricky task of trying to find a teacher two days a week to cover maternity, who hasn‘t been at another school and is happy to just work those two days a week and not work in another school. Now got two people I can interview over next couple of days. Over than that not too stressful a day. Will take that as a win.

#dailyCheckIn

Andrew65 @tracey38 Sorry to hear you are having such a horrible time at the moment, sending all my love and best wishes. 🥰 Stay strong, things will turn around for you eventually. Although it sounds like it would be best for you to find a new job elsewhere when you can. Sending my best thoughts and prayers for your mum‘s operation this week. Always here if you want to talk or let off steam. 😍 4y
Andrew65 @JacqMac Also sending you all my love and best wishes too, as you are also having a very challenging time at the moment. As with @Tracey38 stay strong and this phase will eventually pass. 🥰 4y

BookwormM Better days are good. Work still busy even with staff lol still almost halfway through the week 4y
Andrew65 @BookwormM 😊👍 4y
TheBookHippie A couple results made my doctor give me a sermon and an idiot nurse to deal with all day yesterday 🙄 (my personal doctor got called to work on Covid cure so I can‘t have her right now -but she did just call and tell me to try to get more sleep and alleviate stress 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🙄😭😂🤯 also have to do some shifts in my diet exercise until my stress is lower... Joy. It‘s all doable just a pain in the ass. Idiot nurse didn‘t help🤬 4y
TheBookHippie Also alleviate stress ?! 🤣 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Just as well there is no stress in society and around us at the moment! 😳🤯🙈 4y
Lynnsoprano Glad to hear it was a better day. I read about everyone‘s stresses and feel guilty/fortunate with my situation. Read an article yesterday how boomers/retirees are handling pandemic best. That‘s me 😊 Still worries, but not out dealing with other people any more than I have to. Sending positive thoughts to you, @TheBookHippie @tracey38 @JacqMac , and anyone else who needs good wishes and a hug. 4y
Andrew65 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-54164487 Although our attendance is a lot higher than this and in mid 90s. 4y
CocoReads Not too bad today. Work was just busy enough to keep me moving without being too stressful. Stopped and got groceries on the way home. Weather is warmer today but not unbearable. 4y
kezzlou85 See it as a win for yourself. Been a pretty good day. Daughter went to catch bus but it drove past luckily another follows on but she didn't panic which is great. 4y
Velvetfur Sounds good Andrew, I hope both candidates are great for the job and you don't have to look further and do more interviews, just decide which teacher you want 🙂 4y
JacqMac @Lynnsoprano @Andrew65 Thanks for the support. I decided to take a self care day today. Curled up with a warm blanket, lots of tea, and a really good book. I feel so much better now. Sometimes you just have to do what makes you happy. 4y
JacqMac @TheBookHippie Good luck with the stress. It surly is a pain. 4y
Andrew65 @JacqMac A great idea 👍😍 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Sounds as if she may have turned the corner. 😁 4y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur Thanks 🤞 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Sounds good. 4y
Texreader My son, a freshman, witnessed online bullying (he wasn‘t the subject but was very offended) and so I made a report to the school, talked to the teacher today, and I‘m hoping those kids get booted from the class where they hijacked the online discussion about class to turn it into posts with foul comments. 14-year-olds!! One of them alluded to our illustrious president, so I‘m guessing he‘s setting a “fine” example for our young men. 4y
Andrew65 @Texreader Bullying through social media is such a big and pernicious problem! Well done on calling them out and your son for making you aware of it. 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I visited my secondary work location today for a brief meeting and that put me in proximity to two bookstores I don't visit often so, of course, I went in!2 shops, 5 books. Lots of driving around the area, just to gauge what businesses are open. In these wacky times, I'll call it a good day. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 5 new books is definitely a good day. 📚 4y
tracey38 @Lynnsoprano and @andrew65 thank you. Today we got a taste of fall weather coming. That was nice. 4y
TheSpineView It was a low stress day. Spent most of the day at the barn then came home and took a nap. I am enjoying my time off! 4y
TheBookHippie @Texreader we‘ve had a ton of that already this year and always alludes to the person who resides in our White House 4y
Texreader @TheBookHippie I have to admit. He could be the smartest most articulate politician on the planet (hahaha) and I couldn‘t support him for the example he‘s set for generations of young people. I feared this when he started running for office and I hate to see it has come true. 😢 4y
TheBookHippie @Texreader Yup it‘s been a horrific four years in the schools -they all have permission to bully belittle and degrade women and anyone else they choose .. (edited) 4y
Texreader @Andrew65 I‘m so proud of my son. I‘m an employment lawyer and I have the best clients. When an employee engages in harassment, my clients routinely take my advice to fire them—even when it puts the company at risk. I talk about these things at dinner, and my son knows how strongly I feel about it and he feels the same. So my heart went out to him and his friend who circled their wagons around the victim. We have to take care of each other!! 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Tuesday went from hell on earth to redemption. Someone who controls signage on the Verrazano should be hung out to dry bc the belt parkway used to be all the way to the left exit coming from Staten Island and yesterday it was not. Plus it was a free for all, with the lanes not being clearly demarcated. If there were ever a social experiment, this was it. So, instead of heading toward Belt, I‘m headed toward the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel... (edited) 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 THE most hellish tunnel on earth where demons must live...it‘s so damn long. Thank God there was an exit for 3rd Avenue, so I drove all through Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst whilst cursing my brains out. Finally get back on Belt and now my bladder is going to burst, so I pulled off at Flatbush and peed in a travel mug in my car. I didn‘t give a flying you know what who saw me. I filled it up, dumped it out out then filled it up halfway again. LOL (edited) 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Of course a bicyclist happened to be peddling by and curious, bc I guess it looked like I hit the tree with my car but I gave him a death stare and he turned away. I don‘t know how I did the acrobatics necessary in my car seat with a messed up hip, but I did it. Admittedly, there was spillage. But pants were clean and bc of COVID I have a gazillion wipes in my car, so all was well and carried on speeding bc I was late for doctor‘s appointment. (edited) 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Andrew, maybe you should drop me from this list bc I‘m using up too many comments...it‘s the life of a 13. Absolutely crazy. 😬 hahaha I‘ve decided I was on a seriously dystopian alternate universe Verrazano Bridge yesterday. Thank God this morning all was well👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 nothing different in westbound direction. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @JanuarieTimewalker13 It does feel like you approached an alternate universe! But never too late for an adventure! 🤣 Feel free to use as many comments as you want to and it was in its ‘own way‘ entertaining but sounds like a nightmare in reality. 4y
Andrew65 @Texreader And so you should be! 🙌🙌🙌 We need to pull people out who think this is acceptable as it is so not! This is one of my strong soap boxes. Why can‘t people treat others the way they would like to be treated! As I keep telling the children at school, be the best person you can whether someone is monitoring you or not. Total agree about taking care of each other. 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie @Texreader What do you think will happen in the upcoming election? 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 I think we are F U C K E D ..... I remain ever hopeful. Let‘s hope we vote him out. From the hate I see daily -I sincerely doubt we will. The oppressors are engaged. It‘s Hitler all over again. My opinion. And before I get HATE comments, Andrew asked. I answered. I‘m threatened every single day. Every single day. Because of WHO I fight for. Let that sink in. 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Hahaha!! Thank you, Andrew Yes, today it‘s amusing, yesterday, not so much☮️ 4y
