The 18th Abduction
The 18th Abduction | James Patterson, Maxine Paetro
The #1 bestselling female detective of the past 50 years is back. Detective Lindsay Boxer and her husband Joe Molinari team up to protect San Francisco from an international war criminal in the newest Women's Murder Club thriller. Three female schoolteachers go missing in San Francisco, and Detective Lindsay Boxer is on the case-which quickly escalates from missing person to murder. Under pressure at work, Lindsay needs support at home. But her husband Joe is drawn into an encounter with a woman who's seen a ghost--a notorious war criminal from her Eastern European home country, walking the streets of San Francisco. As Lindsay digs deeper, with help from intrepid journalist Cindy Thomas, there are revelations about the victims. The implications are shocking. And when Joe's mystery informant disappears, joining the ranks of missing women in grave danger, all evidence points to a sordid international crime operation. It will take the combined skills of Lindsay, Joe, and the entire Women's Murder Club to protect their city, and themselves, from a monster.

Of course after I said this series never lets me down I read one that I totally dislike. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Andrew65 Disappointing when this happens with a favourite series. Hate books on certain themes like this. 1y

#11
People have complained that this is a book with just Lyndsay and Joe. But sometimes a change is good in a series.
I loved this book jut as much as the other 17.

I‘m reading this series backwards having found book 19 then 18 in an LFL. The mystery solving team are the MC‘s which somehow lightened the illegalities described her - Bosnian genocide mass murderer turned San Francisco restauranteur kidnaps, rapes, strangles, hangs, hunts innocent women, mired in college debt for sport (shooting stars). And this doesn‘t begin to describe what he did to Anna. Yikes.

ReadingisMyPassion I read this series for a while, but thought it should have ended after a while. I don't care for series that go on...and on...and on. 4y
marleed @ReadingisMyPassion Year there are some authors that I haven‘t read because I don‘t want to get bogged down in long continuing series. Louise Penny comes to mind - if I were to start at her beginning I‘d have no time for other authors. On the other hand, I have discovered authors when they were just a few books in and have fun keeping up with them - Jasmine Guillory, Taylor Jenkins Reed, and more. 4y

The subject matter in this one was much darker than previous books in this series. It was a page turner but not one that I would revisit.

Enjoyed this one more than 16 and 17, and managed to get in a kindle deal.
Still not enough of all four of the women though- which was always the best thing in the series.
I‘ll probably just wait for an offer on 19 too.

suzie.reads I only read them because I get the free from the library. I've gone off Patterson books, he doesn't write any of them anymore 🤔 5y
TrishB @suzie.reads these are the only ones I‘m still only slightly interested in! Gave up on all the others. 5y
suzie.reads @TrishB I read these and the Alex Cross books but the last ones in both series were a disappointment. Although I have still reserved the next women's murder club book that's out next month haha 5y
TrishB @suzie.reads I‘ll await your review 😁 5y

I've enjoyed this series since the 1st one. The group of women who are all part of the womens murder club are all strong women in their own right. However, the books are getting somewhat predictable and Ive had a lot of deja vu moments the past few in the series.

One of my favorite James Patterson series is the Women‘s Murder Club! I enjoy all the characters and their stories. This novel was more of a flashback to years ago with a very chilling case that was utterly heartbreaking. Now I‘m all caught up on this series and I‘m ready for the next one!

ncayea I have it on my wish list at paperbackswap.com I can't wait! Good to know it's good! 5y
NikkiKey94 @ncayea Women‘s Murder Club and Alex Cross are two of my favorite Patterson series! I read almost every adult book he writes and I‘ve only found one that I couldn‘t finish and that was The President is Missing. Just about everything else is so good! 5y

⭐⭐⭐
This one was a bit of a departure for me. Of all of Patterson's series (serieses?), this one has been my favorite - I credit Maxine Paetro with that. But this one just didn't do it for me. There was so little interaction with the other 3 members of the WMC (they each had like 4 lines), and even Lindsay was barely in this one. It was more a Joe story than anything else. It wasn't terrible. But the spark was missing.

suzie.reads Total agree with this he has sort of forgotten the importance of the 4 of then together. Hoping 19th Christmas will be better 6y
TrishB I thought 17 was weak and it‘s put me off getting this one. 6y
Traci1 @suzie.reads the best thing about this one was discovering that 19 will be out in October. Hopefully the girls will be back together again. 6y
Traci1 @TrishB I actually enjoyed 17. Probably not as much as some of the earlier ones, but after so many you kind of expect a weaker one here and there. This one was almost like reading a totally different series. The reason I like the series is the characters and the way they interact. That was completely missing with this one. I'm glad I borrowed it from the library. 6y

This is the 18th book in the series, and I STILL can't decide how to pronounce this guy's name.

Is it jAk-uh-bee (with emphasis on a long A sound)? juh-kO-bee (with emphasis on a long O sound in the middle)? Or, as my daughter thinks jack-o-bee (with a smaller stress on the Jack)? Or something else? I know it's silly but I seem to pronounce it in my head differently every time he's mentioned, and it's driving me crazy.

TheLibrarian I'd pronounce it juh-kO-bee but that's just me. 6y
Areader2 I am with your daughter jack-o-bee 6y
tournevis @Areader2 @thelibrarian In GB, that's how it's pronounced. Common last name there. Derek Jacobi, the actor, famous for playing The Master on Doctor Who being one example. 6y
See All 10 Comments
GingerAntics That makes me think of Derek Jacobi, which is generally evenly stressed like your daughter is suggesting. 6y
Aimeesue I went to school with kids with that last name and they pronounced in ja-KO-bee. But New Englanders are contrary and weird, so… 😁 6y
OrangeMooseReads Ja-ko-bee is how I would pronounce it. 6y
Traci1 @tournevis @GingerAntics That's really helpful. Thanks. 😊 6y
Traci1 @Aimeesue lol 😆 6y
Kappadeemom I‘m Southern, so he is Jay-co-bee with the emphasis on Jay. Matter of fact, I call him Jay in my head since we are friendly 😂😂 6y
Traci1 @Kappadeemom lol. Maybe I should start calling him Jay if he doesn't mind. It would certainly eliminate my constantly changing it in my head from one thing to another. 6y

I‘m giving this a so-so because this is no longer a Women‘s Murder club series. It‘s the Lindsey and Joe show. I don‘t understand why not have Yuki meet Anna since half way she brings the story to Lindsey full of passion to do something. Why give it to Joe??? It‘s a ok story that just lacks the presence of the four women that got me hooked on the series 😞 maybe book 19 will be different but I‘m close to abandoning this series💔

I mean I will keep reading them as long as they keep getting published but I need more of Women‘s Murder Club! The storyline with Joe, Lindsay, and Conklin was great-very engaging and a few triggers. However, Yuki, Cindy, and Claire were so overlooked. We are a bit of them but I felt like that group dynamic between them was forgotten and I missed it.

TrishB I really didn‘t like 17 for pretty much the same reasons, not really focusing on all of them. I‘ve put off buying this because of it, maybe I‘ll leave for a kindle deal. 6y
JoScho @TrishB I could be wrong but I feel like there was@more of them in 17 than 18. 6y

ravenlee I‘ve bern wondering for years how much “collaborating” he actually does. I‘m guessing his contributions go something like “here‘s the title, and these are the characters. And I thought of a good line, work it in somewhere. Let me know when it‘s done.” 6y
