Someone Knows
Someone Knows | Lisa Scottoline
From the New York Times-bestselling author comes a pulse-pounding domestic thriller about a group of friends who have been bound for twenty years by a single secret--and will now be undone by it. Someone Knows is an emotional exploration of friendship and family, as well as a psychological exploration of guilt and memory. Twenty years ago, in an upscale suburb of Philadelphia, four teenagers spent a summer as closest friends: drinking, sharing secrets, testing boundaries. When a new boy looked to join them, they decided to pull a prank on him, convincing him to play Russian roulette as an initiation into their group. They secretly planned to leave the gun unloaded--but what happened next would change each of them forever. Now three of the four reunite for the first time since that horrible summer. The guilt--and the lingering question about who loaded the gun--drove them apart. But after one of the group apparently commits suicide with a gun, their old secrets come roaring back. One of them is going to figure out if the new suicide is what it seems, and if it connects to the events of that long-ago summer. Someone knows exactly what happened--but who? And how far will they go to keep their secrets buried?

Read 3/4 before. Finished this time! Yay. (Spoiler: I really don‘t enjoy suppressed memories as a plot device, especially not as the last twist. It doesn‘t come across as a “gotcha” for me; more like an easy out. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

I know I have read this. Every line feels like deja vu. But I can‘t remember it, nor do I have it marked as read anywhere. So, here on I go! :)

Twenty years ago, five friends were playing Russian roulette with a gun (why would anybody do this??) and as can be expected, things go horribly wrong. The surviving teenagers never speak of this day again.

Until today.

One of the former friends has committed suicide and the other three have returned for the funeral. Allie, being one of the survivors, has felt guilt and regret her whole life.

Will there ever be justice?

Solid ending.

This book was just ok for me. It took a long time explaining the “past” that was unnecessary to set the stage. Then it started to get interesting in the present and I was hooked. The end was over the top. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

How do you live the rest of your life when you're full of guilt and shame but have to keep it a secret? You remain enslaved to it.
Partly creepy. partly sick. Completely compelling and full of twists. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this but it kept me on the edge of my seat until the end! 5 stars! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Everyone in my house went to bed early which gave me enough quiet reading time to finish off this book. I enjoyed the suspense and raced through the last 50 pages. I‘m still wide awake and trying to decide what to pick up next.

Our choices, our actions (and even lack thereof) can affect other people in ways we can't fathom. There are times when you can see the trajectory of your decisions and other times when you will never know what the multiple ramifications may be. But someone else may know. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ See my full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2712595417?book_show_action=false&from_rev...

With spoiled unlikeable teens growing into the same as adults how far would one go to hide the truth..

Someone Knows is a reminder that teenage secrets never die. It's a lesson Allie Garvey is forced to deal with at a childhood friends funeral. She relives pain everyday after a horrifying accident 20yrs earlier shattered her/her friends lives when they played a stupid prank as teens. I found this unputdownable, really enjoyed it! 4 ☆

JoScho I really like this one too! 5y

Past and current time lines as well as multiple POVs-this book was great on audio. Twenty years ago something horrible happens and the kids have kept it a secret and dealt with it in their own way. Now someone else is dead and buried secrets have a way of resurfacing. Highly recommend 4.5🌟

Tragedy scares us, hides us, more importantly it destroys. Especially when we think we're fine or we should be. Then twenty years pass (as in the book) and the only things that really change are your zip codes, friends, relationship status and time. And that tragedy you tried to forget didn't really evolve, it still haunts. I appreciated the set up of each characters family dynamics because it serviced that ending. And wow, I loved that ending😃

You drive around knowing all the roads. I don‘t. You went back to your maiden name, but it‘s your name. Gallagher is not my name. It never was.

This gets off to a slow start because there are so many characters. Some are irrelevant. The first half of the book takes place while the main characters are 15. Lots of cliches here. The second half picks up 20 years later and moves along at a typical thriller clip, which is entertaining. Then it ends. Pretty decent. It ends again. Eh, okay. And again. And now it‘s just stupid. Not one of Scottoline‘s best.

Bestselling author #LisaScottoline describes #SomeoneKnows as “an exploration of a modern family, and of how the ties that bind are meant to nurture us, but may also warp us. It‘s also about justice, exploring themes of guilt and innocence. At its heart is this issue — not guilty doesn‘t always mean innocent.” It's a sophisticated, intricately-plotted, thought-provoking thriller. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"She knew the others would be there. A reunion of co-conspirators. She hadn‘t spoken to them after what had happened. They‘d had no contact since. They‘d run away from each other and what they‘d done. They‘d thought getting caught was the worst that could happen. Allie had learned otherwise. Not getting caught was worse. . . . The cool kids believed their secret was going to stay safe forever, but they were wrong. It was time for forever to end."

I received this ARC from the publisher. This was my first Lisa Scottoline novel and I looked forward to it as I was always curious about her books. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. It is a novel about five teenagers and a tragic incident that occurs when they were in high school. I didn‘t care for any of the characters and the story felt unbelievable.
