A Deadly Game
A Deadly Game | Catherine Crier
8 posts | 7 read | 20 to read
In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Catherine Crier, a former judge and one of television's most popular legal analysts, offers a riveting and authoritative account of one of the most memorable crime dramas of our time: the murder of Laci Peterson at the hands of her husband, Scott, on Christmas Eve 2002. Drawing on extensive interviews with key witnesses and lead investigators, as well as secret evidence files that never made it to trial, Crier traces Scott's bizarre behavior; shares dozens of transcripts of Scott's chilling and incriminating phone conversations; offers accounts of Scott's womanizing from two former mistresses before Amber Frey; and includes scores of never-before-seen police photos, documents, and other evidence. The result is thoroughly engrossing yet highly disturbing -- an unforgettable portrait of a charming, yet deeply sociopathic, killer.

My family has been making Laci Peterson‘s French toast ever since I read this book 4 years ago. This was the French toast casserole she planned to make the morning of her murder. As Brian likes to say, it‘s to die for. 😬 We‘re fans of gallows humor over here. Anyway, it‘s an amazing recipe and is included in this book—thought I would share in case anyone needs a yummy recipe for Christmas brunch!

Megabooks This is super morbid, yet decadent. You have me perplexed! 3y
LeahBergen I remember this part of the case! 3y

Cathythoughts We always gave a carb fest at Christmas! I may have to add this to the menu & tell the tale 3y
Chelleo My two favorite things! Creme brûlée and French toast! Hi to you and the fam! I miss our meetups ? 3y
MicheleinPhilly Ya‘ll are sick. I love it. 😂 3y
Gissy 😋 3y
Reviewsbylola I know, me too!! @Chelleo 3y
Reviewsbylola We are some sickos. 😂 @Megabooks @MicheleinPhilly My kids have started to ask for “murder mysteries” on TV because literally all my parents watch together is ID Discovery. 😅🔪 3y
Reviewsbylola It‘s the personal touches like this that I love in true crime! @LeahBergen 3y
Librariana I saw the name and thought "as in the one who was murdered?" Read your caption further and yup! ? I'm with @Megabooks on this one - morbid yet decadent! Hubby and I really enjoy the new treatment to "Unsolved Mysteries" on Netflix and "My Favorite Murder" is a podcast staple around here! ?? 3y
Reviewsbylola I did introduce my kids to Unsolved Mysteries when they were asking for murder shows! I figured maybe it would be the least graphic, scary one. Maybe?! 😂 All I know is that I was obsessed with it as a kid! @Librariana 3y

I do have to say that the writing of this true story was one to keep you reading, but not in a fast way, where you want to feel the feelings of Laci's parents and friends for the loss of a beautiful woman and baby whose life never even got to begin.
I have been wanting to read the story of Scott Peterson since he was pronounced guilty. Now I can say I have and glad that I chose this particular book

Crazeedi Such a sad horrible for her family. 😢 5y
bookaholic1 @Crazeedi yes a sociopath for sure 5y

In my TBR stack. Too big to travel with. 😕 I feel like I know all there is to know about this case, but I always think that about true crime stories and then I learn new things!

LectricSheep Do you listen to the podcast My Favorite Murder? 😁 7y
AmyG @LectricSheep MFM is the best! I highly recommend. #SSDGM 7y
Kaye I agree with you on some of these cases. They have been reported on and so man tv shows and podcasts of them that I tend to steer clear of those ones when possible. They may have info that someone else hasn't already reported on though ! Hope you find some new information. 7y

No_One @LectricSheep @AmyG no I hadn't heard about that! I will definitely check it out now. Thank you! 😊 7y
No_One @Kaye this is the problem with me not getting to my TBR pile! Ha! This book has been in there so long. It was much newer news when I first got it. 😕😊 7y
Kaye Yep I know what you mean. There are always new books knocking on your door when you have a pile of older ones waiting. It's hard to choose who gets the next turn. I try to steer clear of bestseller lists and search for odd books that might not be as popular. Sometimes I hit a jackpot but others a dud. Some aren't popular for a reason. 😝It's worth it when you find a good one though. 👍🏻 7y

Was asleep during #seewhatihavewon 😭 & it was open to those outside of the US 😭😭 Look forward to reading See What I Have Done at some point! Loved seeing everyone's #truecrime recs. I flew through this one last week, thanks to @Reviewsbylola ☺️ I recalled this case, it was all over international media. Despite the B movie cover, this was a gripping read & good on the investigative details. Devastating towards the end when the bodies were found.

Reviewsbylola I'm glad you liked it too! The media coverage from the case is still so vivid in my mind. The case was featured on Dateline this past Friday and I recorded it but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. 7y
batsy Thank you for the recommendation! Yes it was a widely publicised case. I heard about the Dateline show, it sounds interesting! 7y

When the book you just read about Laci Peterson includes a picture of the French toast recipe she was planning to make on Christmas Eve morning when she was brutally murdered by her husband, you give it to your mom so she can make it Easter morning. 🙌🏻👊🏻👍🏻 Thanks @Mdargusch for a beautiful Easter spread. Happy Easter littens!

Kimzey Hope the recipe goes better for your family! 👍🏼💕 7y
RanaElizabeth Love French toast casserole! It's my go-to holiday breakfast. 7y

True crime books are my guilty pleasure. I have to thank @Caffienequeen for posting about this book a few weeks ago because I found it on Overdrive and immediately was hooked. Something about this case really captures my attention. How someone could make the conscious choice to murder their pregnant spouse is truly something I can't fathom. This was very detailed and I liked that it was chronological and matter of fact.

Rachbb3 I went to junior high and high school with Lacy. This was such a tragedy. We just couldn't believe it. 7y
Gayan I really loved this book. The whole thing was just so unbelievable. Scott Peterson is a monster. 7y
Reviewsbylola Omg that's awful. She sounds like she was a very friendly, bubbly person. I can't even imagine. @Rachbb3 7y

Reviewsbylola I agree, totally unbelievable. I can't wrap my mind around any of it. And the fact that he still shows no remorse shows how highly he thinks of himself. @Gayan 7y
bio_chem06 @Reviewsbylola did he ever admit guilt? 7y
Reviewsbylola Not as far as I know. I doubt he ever will. @bio_chem06 7y
Cinfhen I remember this case! What a douche...wow @Rachbb3 how sad 💔 7y
guinsgirlreads Awesome! I haven't gotten to read it yet 😔 7y
