#BookCoverChallenge
Day 246.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

Detective John Blacksad investigates cases including the murder of a starlet/former lover, a missing child in a segregated town, and a Russian spy ring trying to get the formula for the atom bomb. I loved the richly detailed watercolor illustrations of this noir comic with an anthropomorphic bent.

Sace I've got this book. Why haven't I read it yet? 6y

Really enjoyed the first two stories but the third one lost me a bit. The illustrations are amazing and I love the personalities portrayed as animals. If you like old school private detective stuff you should pick this up.

I enjoyed this, but was disturbed by the fact that all the male characters had animal heads while the women and girls all looked more human with some animal features. Still trying to figure out how I feel about that. But good noir dectective stories!

How can you pass by the book with a cover like that?! I was blown away by this comic. A world populated by... I wouldn't say anthropomorphic animals... but reversed... humans with animal features... anywho, gritty '50s noir. Stories included race wars, atomic threat, red scare, etc. Hard boiled P.I. getting into more than he bargained for. The best art I've seen since Y. Artist worked for Disney Paris, and the influence is delightfully obvious.

Look at this panel!!! A French comic, translated into English and distributed by Dark Horse in 2010. Gritty noir drama. I feel an obsession coming on...

Just finished this classic noir furry #comic. It‘s actually pretty complimentary that I finished it, because I tend not to much like noir, furries, “message” stories or ‘mature‘ content.

About furries: I want imaginary worlds to feel real, and the whole furry thing is usually a visual metaphor and so the biological and ecological implications are ignored. That irks me. Anyone else have this issue, or am I just strange?

MoniqueChristine Not just you. I normally have issues with furries. Especially if they are depicted as heavily sexual. I don‘t hate on anyone who likes that sort of thing but it‘s definitely not for me 😕 7y
LShelby @Monique It‘s a very conflicted subject for me, because I had this dream that wanted me to write it as a story, and I said “No, way. The main character looked like a furry—but nobody else! That‘s not my thing, it makes no sense, and I‘m not going there.” But the world kept building itself in my head until I finally did come up with a rationalization for occasional furries. So... er... 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7y
MoniqueChristine @LShelby hey, there‘s a big audience out there for it. If it feels right to you then that‘s probably what your story needs. 😊 7y

All of the characters in this gritty noir detective series are anthropomorphic animals! I'm all about this trope.

The art is gorgeous and done mainly in what looks like watercolor 😍

2BR02B This one's an all-time favorite of mine. I like how the anthropomorphism is almost like a manifestation of the characters' individual traits (ie the snitch is a weasel, the white supremacists are polar bears and arctic foxes). 7y
tysephine @2BR02B oh man the white supremacist issue was SO brilliant! I think that was my favorite one out of the 3. 7y

Anthropomorphic Noir at its best! I‘m glad the #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon finally forced me to go through my various TBR lists and pick this one up! If you like hard boiled stories and don‘t mind a little adult situation stuff, then I recommend you check this series out!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The artwork is amazing in this and I loved the noir stories, featuring down on his luck PI John Blacksad.

The hardcover is oversized and contains three stories: Somewhere within the Shadows, Arctic Nation, Red Soul. Just fantastic!! 💕

My first books of the year! I'm flying through these graphic novels and loving every moment of them. They are a detective series where the main character is a black cat named Blacksad. These are fun and have social, racial and economic issues tied to their stories. I highly recommend them! 👍🏻💜😻

I just finished the first volume ( this edition has the first 3 stories published together) and it was such a perfect fit for me that I just went and ordered the next two volumes before reading anymore! It's written in the style of the noir books of Raymond Chandler etc and the main characters is a PI that is your typical Philip Marlowe type only he's a cat - all characters are anthropomorphic animals that are related to their personality!

hlgreenfield The art is also amazing! And the characters ( though I only just started on this journey) definitely interest me. 7y
Katerina I love love love Blacksad! I love the art, how the animals fit the characters, the story. I hope there will be a 6th volume. 7y
hlgreenfield @Katerina it really is amazing. The next two stories just arrived and I can't wait to read them. There needs to be more volumes! 7y

Unexpected snow day means curling up on the couch with the Floof and catching up on some graphic novel reading! This book is incredibly timely - the breathtaking artwork and detective noir setting are packaging for explorations of race, wealth, privilege, prejudice, and determination. Absolutely amazing. 🖤🔍🚬🎞🥂 (5 out of 5 marks of detection)

Next round of books for #LitsyAtoZ - B books (fiction, non-fiction, YA, and graphic novel). I had additional fiction and YA books for this one, and I couldn't decide. Russian fairy tale retellings, feline noir, the struggle for the American dream, mysterious woods, feminism - exciting!!

I ADORE THIS! Crime noir set in 1950s America, populated by anthropomorphic animals. Also, you know when the cover of a GN is so beautiful and you hope the art inside lives up to that promise but it never does..? This really does! It's beautiful, start to finish. Get it. Read it. Love it.
