30 posts | 32 read | 19 to read
Meet Odette, Clarice, and Barbara Jean in the New York Times best-selling novel . . . Earls All-You-Can-Eat is home away from home for this inseparable Plainview, Indiana, trio. Dubbed the Supremes by high school pals in the tumultuous 1960s, they weather lifes storms together for the next four decades. Now, during their most challenging year yet, dutiful, proud, and talented Clarice must struggle to keep up appearances as she deals with her husbands humiliating infidelities. Beautiful, fragile Barbara Jean is rocked by the tragic reverberations of a youthful love affair. And fearless Odette engages in the most terrifying battle of her life while contending with the idea that she has inherited more than her broad frame from her notorious pot-smoking mother, Dora. Through marriage, children, happiness, and the blues, these strong, funny women gather each Sundayat the same table at Earls diner for delicious food, juicy gossip, occasional tears, and uproarious banter. With wit and love, style and sublime talent, Edward Kelsey Moore brings together four intertwined love stories, three devoted allies, and two sprightly earthbound spirits in a big-hearted debut novel that embraces the lives of people you will never forget. This ebook edition includes a Reading Group Guide.

“True friendship is not about how long you've known someone, but how deeply you connect with them in the moments that matter.“

1. I loved this book, and I‘d love to see Tyler Perry adapt it. The wedding scene alone would be great to see on screen.
2. I don‘t really know #Indiana, but I think it would be fun to visit Bloomington.

This may be my favorite book this year. I loved the characters, each character was achingly human. I found it funny, sad, and poignant. A bit heavy if you're looking for a light read, but very worth a read if you are in the mood for something a little heavier.

Well just recently it was Dolly Parton's Songteller. The book thief. The last days of summer. I'm a huge crybaby though so lots of things make me cry 😀 @Cuilin @Megabooks thanks for the tag! #fridayfeelings

Megabooks I totally get that. I go through phases were I just close a book and shed some tears. 3y
Cuilin @Coleen_Nieto @Megabooks me too. Sometimes I shed a tear just because I finished a book and I‘ll miss the characters. Such a sop!! 3y
Jnieto25 I choke up even talking about the short story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst. 3y
Coleen_Nieto @Jnieto25 Now I have to read that story! 3y

Engrossing and engaging story of the deep friendship between three Black women in southern Indiana. Moore does an impressive job of writing women characters. Both funny and sad, it‘s a great summer read with some heft to it.

2. Tagged book & sequel! A patron came into the library and asked for uplifting funny Southern lit and had read everything typical (Fannie Flagg, Lee Smith)
3. Five. Also have 4 holds placed in various formats. I actually have Lillian Boxfish checked out in both audio and print. #weekendreads @rachelsbrittain #librariansoflitsy

I give this a thumbs up because it made me laugh out loud in the dentist waiting room while my son was getting a checkup. My favourite part, the ghosts that talk to one of the main characters....they are FUNNY.

I liked it. It's all about the characters/relationships. Somewhat reminiscent of Terry McMillan's and Fannie Flagg's work.

Jaimelire It‘s been sitting in my TBR pile forever. I should give it a read soon. 5y

A book club choice, this takes place in a fictional southern Indiana town (my home state). It‘s about three middle-aged women and their ups and downs throughout the years. Reminded me a lot of southern fiction, which I can give or take. Wouldn‘t say I loved it, but it was decent and a light, easy read.

The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat Buffet by Edward Kelsey Moore - 5*
Odette, Clarice, and Barbara Jean are 3 very different young women who form a bond of incredible friendship. Their story is told over a few years decades, with the use of flashbacks.

The greatest quality of this book is that it touches on some very hard facts of life while also being extremely hilarious.

This may be my favorite book of the year, so fa

Edward Kelsey Moore (EKM) is extremely talented when it comes to describing relationships. My #FavLiteraryCouple is Odette & James from EKM‘s first book.

I really enjoyed this story of friendship. It had a lot of humor, but covered some serious issues. The characters were great and I couldn‘t help but like them all despite their flaws. Read for #pbt decathlon challenge and #popsugar challenge (Author a different ethnicity).

Susanita I loved this book! Did you know there‘s a sequel? 6y

I really loved this #ownvoices book about 3 women of colour - friends for decades. It's about how their life changed, what happens now that they're old, what will happen in the future. 5/5 ⭐️

😊it was truly a good visit to Plainview, Indiana to see the lives of the Supremes unfold. It was honest & funny; the characters reminded me if some of my own relatives. There's gossip, racism, mysticism & DV but you'll still want to be a part if the community.

This was another find through the summer #readinglist at my library a few years ago. It's a touching story of friendship, family, and community. There's also a hilarious wedding scene that reads like John Irving meets Tyler Perry. #whitewedding #rockinmay

Cinfhen Love your photo and I chuckled at your John Irving /Tyler Perry remark! Haven't read the book, but now I'm intrigued... 7y

For #favbookishfriendships I immediately thought of Clarice, Barbara Jean & Odette. If they could adopt me as a friend, I'd be a lucky gal. If you want a book that shows the highs & lows of being in a relationship, this is that book. #Augustphotochallenge @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

I really enjoyed this book. It's a story about family and community, and especially the particular kind of friendship that grows through sharing many years and experiences. There are parts that will make you angry, parts will make you cry, and a wedding that will make you laugh until you cry.
