Cold War
Cold War: A History From Beginning to End | Hourly History
1 post | 1 read | 4 to read
The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union lasted from the end of World War II until the end of the 1980s. Over the course of five decades, they never came to blows directly. Rather, these two world superpowers competed in other arenas that would touch almost every corner of the globe. Inside you will read about... ? What Was the Cold War? ? The Origins of the Cold War ? World War II and the Beginning of the Cold War ? The Cold War in the 1950s ? The Cold War in the 1960s ? The Cold War in the 1970s ? The Cold War in the 1980s and the End of the Cold War Both interfered in the affairs of other countries to win allies for their opposing ideologies. In the process, governments were destabilized, ideas silenced, revolutions broke out, and culture was controlled. This overview of the Cold War provides the story of how these two countries came to oppose one another, and the impact it had on them and others around the world.

I‘m predicting more success for myself with this prompt as I DNF‘d a few this year!!🤦‍♀️ I plan on starting with the Berlin Letters recommended by @kspenmoll I also have two Graham Greene novels to try. What are you reading?

Bookwormjillk I was just looking at 1w

Cuilin @Bookwormjillk same, it looks good. I haven‘t read anything by her yet. Have you? I have a hold on mystery by her at my LPL 1w
Bookwormjillk @Cuilin I thought I had, but I checked and I don't have anything written down. 1w
Cuilin @Bookwormjillk I was convinced I had too. 🤔 1w
dabbe I also had quite a few DNF's this year--not just for this but a lot of others. I think I over-FOMO'd myself! 🤣 1w
Cuilin @dabbe Yep!! I‘m in my #HailTheBail era. 1w
dabbe @Cuilin 🎯🤣🎯 7d
julieclair I haven‘t had many DNFs this year, but I‘ve had a LOT of “didn‘t get to it in the assigned month and therefore will never read it because now I have to start the new month‘s books or I‘ll be behind” books. (Would love to figure out a hashtag for that, lol!) Like @dabbe , I over-FOMO‘d myself. I‘m really going to try to cut down on my challenges for 2026. (But everything sounds like so much fun!) But #BookedInTime is a keeper for sure. 7d
julieclair I absolutely love this challenge! Now… as to the original question 😂… I‘ll be reading 7d
Cuilin @julieclair oh my gosh yes to the “didn‘t read it during the assigned month so now I‘m not gonna read it” I‘m blaming my ADHD!!! 😆 American Spy sounds great. Let me know if there‘s an historical era you‘d like to see next year. I have a few ideas for some new ones but don‘t mind repeating a past prompt. 7d
Karisimo I love this time period! I've read 4 of the ones you listed! I would also recommend The Briar Club by Kate Quinn! 7d
dabbe @julieclair Yep, I have to seriously regroup. My books are collecting dust on the shelves as I keep buying more books to keep up with the group reads. Time to slow down and reassess. 🧡🤎💜 7d
Cuilin @Karisimo oh thanks for the recommendation!! Which four did you read and did you like them? 6d
Karisimo @cuilin I have read The Berlin Letters, Our Woman in Moscow, Transcription, and I Must Betray You. I liked and would recommend them all! If I *had* to pick a favorite, I would go with I Must Betray You. 6d
Cuilin @Karisimo Thanks for replying. I have Berlin Letters but with my track record I might need a back up. 🤭 6d
Jess861 Just picked up Our Woman in Moscow from the library - hoping I find time to read it! 3d
Cuilin @Jess861 May the odds be ever in your favor. 3d
