The 7th book in the Undead series (#SeriesLove2025) was a major shift in the series. This was darker than the previous entries. I am giving it a so-so because it wasn‘t what I was expecting. I will read the next book and see if I want to finish the series.

I was happy to return to the All Souls world. Diane travels to Ravenswood to meet her Proctor relatives and decide on whether she wants to pursue higher magic. We meet several Proctors along the way, some characters from the past return (both good and bad) and the relationship between Matthew and Diana evolves and strengthens.

Excellent narration by Jennifer Ikeda.

LMJenkins I liked this a lot too. 3mo

If I‘m in a reading slump, I usually go to an old favorite, like the tagged or a favorite genre (cozy mystery or golden age mystery). With any luck, one of the two will kick things back in for me.

Great question @BookmarkTavern I enjoyed seeing the different ways readers deal with a slump.

This was a low pick for me. The story of Nora Beady, who is brought into the home of Dr. Croft after her family has died due to cholera. Dr. Croft sees the potential in Nora and teaches her the medical sciences.

I liked Nora and her story, but the novel dragged in parts. I felt Nora‘s connection to Dr. Croft and Mrs. Pruitt, but struggled with her “romantic” relationships. There is a sequel, and I‘ll read it to find out what happens to Nora.

I‘ve read this short novella several times and each time I take something new away from it dependent on my time and circumstances. It‘s dense but worth it.

I haven‘t read The Scarlet Letter, so I‘m not sure if that had an impact on my reading of Hester. I just never really connected with the main characters. I didn‘t always understand their motivations. A low pick for me. The first in the looking glass wars series (#SeriesLove2025). It is a battle between white and black imaginations (Alyss vs Red).
