Damn Glad to Meet You | Tim Matheson

I‘ve been a fan of Tim Matheson since seeing him in a made for TV movie in the 90s. He has had a fascinating life & career & has been in so many movies & shows, including Leave It To Beaver, Bonanza, The West Wing, etc. And my forever favorite role of his is when he played Lucy‘s stepson on the hilarious movie Yours, Mine & Ours. He narrates the audiobook & does a great job. Highly recommended. 5⭐️

I love Jessica shenanigans & this one is full of them. Jess gets stuck doing the water balloon booth at the school fair so she wrangles her way out of it into Liz‘s babysitting job, & Liz takes her place at the booth. Much to her dismay the kids she is watching are little terrors. Liz saves the day with a hilarious twin switch which has the kids convinced Jess has magical powers. And Jess gets payback later in the form of water balloons 🎈. 4.5⭐️

Earth Day is coming up, & the 2nd grade class project is to restore a rundown area into a beautiful park. Rich Mr. Patman wants to turn it into a parking garage & make $. The kids‘ only hope is to try to get snobby Bruce Patman on their side. And of course, they do. Mr. P. sees all the hard work they did on the park & Bruce talks him into leaving it be. Cute and wholesome. 4⭐️

It‘s April 1st & the twins have decided to do something a little different this year. They usually do a twin switch every year & everyone expects it. Jess convinces Liz that this year, they shouldn‘t switch & just be themselves. Problem is nobody believes them. Liz has a very bad day as she continues to get mistaken for Jess & that means she gets punished for Jess‘s mistakes as well. This was a lot of fun. Poor Liz!

I finally finished Strangers On A Train for #HitchToScreen - I‘d give it a soft pick & I really wish Goodreads did half stars. The movie, imo, is a masterpiece, & this is one of the instances where I think the movie is better than the book. My biggest gripe is that it‘s too long & dragged a lot. Guy is much more sympathetic in the movie. By the end of the book I was rooting for no one. Still, it‘s a great premise for a book. 3.5⭐️

Clare-Dragonfly I feel like I would have been more interested in Guy‘s journey into darkness if I hadn‘t thought he basically sucked from the beginning. 🙃 1w
JenlovesJT47 @Clare-Dragonfly have you seen the movie? I love Farley Granger and he is so likable in the movie. And Robert Walker who plays Bruno is amazing. I agree, I would have been more invested in the book if Guy wasn‘t so unlikable. 1w

I chose this retelling of Snow White & the huntsman for the #FairytaleReadingChallenge this month. It‘s book 4 in a series & I haven‘t read the others yet. Although there are things from the previous books referenced, it didn‘t detract from my enjoyment of the story & it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed this & plan on reading more in the series. 4⭐️

This one was new to me & so adorable! The twins have to earn their own money if they want to go visit Great Aunt Helen, so they decide to start a dog-walking business. Jess shirks her responsibilities but Ken, who loves dogs but isn‘t allowed to have one, is thrilled to help. They get an opportunity to earn more money when Mr. Quincy brings his dog, Joe, for them to watch for a week. Joe is a Samoyed & is covered in cuts & bruises. The twins &⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Ken scheme to keep Joe from going back to Mr. Quincy. They tell him he ran away but they really took him to Ken‘s cousin‘s ranch. But their secret is out when Joe runs away & runs straight back to the Wakefields where Mr. Q is waiting. Mr. Wakefield puts him in his place in spectacular fashion & scares him away, once the kids tell their parents about Joe‘s abuse. And bonus: Ken gets to keep Joe at his house! So cute. 5⭐️ (edited) 2w

This is one of my favorite books & I try to reread it every few years. It starts in Switzerland in 1902, when Marta is 12. She is forced to drop out of school by her abusive father. She has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge & is very ambitious. She eventually ends up in California with her husband & children, & we follow the story of her daughter, Hildemara. Book 2 continues the story of her granddaughter, Carolyn. 5⭐️ Highly recommend.

Patrick Morris has very strict parents who‘ve gotten even more strict lately. His parents forbid him to join the school band, so he practices the saxophone at Casa Wakefield in his free time. He makes the band but his parents still refuse to let him play. He decides to run away, & Winston & the twins help. Eventually he goes home & learns his dad lost his job, which is why they didn‘t want him joining the band. But all‘s well that ends well in SV.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this for #BeyondTheYellowBrickRoad - I dunno about you guys but old Mombi here used to FREAK ME OUT when I was a kid, watching Return To Oz. I‘m amazed once again at the creativity of Mr. Baum & can only imagine what kids back then thought of these wonderful books. 5⭐️

What better way to end the year‘s reading than with another Sweet Valley camp classic, Return of the Evil Twin?😆 I haven‘t read this as many times as the original but I still try to whip it out around Christmas every few years. This time Margo‘s long lost twin sister, Nora, makes her way to Sweet Valley & decides to make the Wakefield twins pay for “what they did to Margo”. And hatches a plot to steal Jessica‘s life & identity. Goes great with ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 A glass of wine!🍷 5⭐️ As a side note, I‘ve always found this picture on the inside cover of Nora with a mullet climbing out of Jessica‘s window hilarious. All 4 of them are supposed to be identical 😆 - 80 points #WinterGames2024 #HolidayBookDragons 1mo

I‘ve loved Garfield since I was a kid & love sharing him with Jace. This is a funny take on The Night Before Christmas complete with 8 Odie reindeers pulling Santa‘s sleigh. 5⭐️ 80 points

JenlovesJT47 @MemoirsForMe Garfield is the best! 🙌🏻🧡 1mo
TorieStorieS I had so many of the comic book compilations— though I think my younger brother ended up loving them to death!! I don‘t think I was able to rescue more than one or two from his destructive reading habits as a kid!! 1mo

JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS same. My favorite cousin who was basically my big brother also loved Garfield and we had a bunch of the books. I even had a Garfield phone at one point! 🤓 1mo
TorieStorieS We had a Garfield window cling for our car— but I would have definitely preferred the phone!! I did have a pretty cool killer whale one, though all I really wanted was that translucent one my older cousin had! 1mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS ooh I always wanted one of those clear phones, they were so cool in the 90s 😆🤓 I also had a Garfield alarm clock. 1mo
TorieStorieS They were the coolest! And now I am googling your clock! Definitely cooler than my Mickey and Minnie radio!🤣 1mo

I read this for #MidwinterSolace - I didn‘t love this book but definitely took away a few kernels of wisdom & it makes you stop & think about what‘s really important & what your priorities should be around the holidays. 3⭐️ 80 points

Next up for #KindredSpritsChristmas is Uncle Richard‘s New Year‘s Dinner. Another family feud is ended when Prissy secretly goes to her estranged uncle‘s house & cooks his New Year‘s dinner while he is at work. Classic LMM. 80 points

The twins are hosting a Christmas Eve party & Jess wants everything to be perfect. But all of her ideas get shot down & Liz wants an old fashioned Christmas. Jess draws Liz‘s name for Secret Santa but she spends all her money on a new outfit & decides to steal Liz‘s Secret Santa gift for Lila & say it‘s for her. The whole party is a disaster & Jess wishes that Christmas will never come. She gets her wish when she wakes up the next day & it‘s ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Christmas Eve all over again. She changes some of her bad behavior but not all of it & once again the party is a disaster. This goes on for 5 days of Christmas Eves until she finally wises up & does things the right way. Sweet Valley‘s spin on Groundhog Day was a fun one. 4⭐️80 points #WinterGames2024 #HolidayBookDragons #SweetValley #SweetValleyTwins #SVT #twins #nostalgia 1mo
TorieStorieS This one is new to me!! I‘m looking forward to getting to it!! 😊 1mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS it‘s a good one! Although Jess is very dense right up to the end lol. 😆 1mo

TorieStorieS Hahahaha! Dense like the time she couldn‘t pick up on Janet‘s crush on her brother? 1mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS lol man she was really dense that time. At least she wised up eventually 😆 1mo

This is my all time favorite Sweet Valley Twins book. They are gifted twin Harlequin dolls for Christmas after a big fight. They solve the riddle on the dolls‘ medallions & get sucked into a magical world where their dolls come to life & are 2 very good looking princes. They come together to fight an evil sorcerer. I didn‘t read much fantasy when I was younger but I always loved this book. 5⭐️ 80 points. Also spent 7 hours reading yesterday = 210

TorieStorieS Did you ever read Lloyd Alexander‘s Chronicles of Prydain? In 4th grade I read them and they remain a favorite of mine, so I figured you would like them, too, book twin! 😊 1mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS ooh no I haven‘t will go get it now! 🤓 1mo

This had its funny moments but it was also a bit silly. But it‘s a quick listen on audiobook at 5 hours. I didn‘t realize it‘s part of a series but it doesn‘t detract from the story. 3⭐️ 80 points

I‘ve read all of the Agatha Raisin books in the regular series but somehow never got to this one. I usually listen to the audiobooks but I read this one with my eyeballs & it was pretty funny. The usual Agatha hijinks and a dead body or two. 4⭐️ 80 points
