Mehso-so

2.5/5 ⭐️s
Through young witch Eva, who has considerably less magic than her counterparts, Abe examines how to navigate a world that is not only different, biased, and sometimes hostile due to some not having magical powers, but additionally challenging in the context of disadvantage or disability. I felt like the story could have been about 100 pages shorter and a better read as a result.

Another lovely day for #scarathlon finished a book, watched some movies with the little ones while we carved pumpkins which was a bucket list item! #BOOklovers

Using my current read for the #scarathlon daily photo prompt #witch
Pretty cute so far and if you liked Kiki‘s delivery service it has that same feel to it, a young witch trying to prove herself!

Finished this one little bit ago. It‘s a cute book, but it took it until halfway to pickup speed. I definitely do want to still continue the series, and I look forward to tracking down a copy of book two 💙

Texas is experiencing some ❄️ icy ❄️ conditions, & thank the celestial librarians for my school district to be closed. While I‘d rather be reading this whole time, I‘ll be getting ahead on my grad work because my midterm is due at the end of the month ( A Book Trailer 🤯), but I will definitely be sure to take multiple reading breaks today and tomorrow 💙 Also, notice my Aragorn & Arwen bookmark- found it in the HS bookmark collection!

I thought this would be a cute read, but then I started it and was not in the middle grade mood I thought I was in. I finally felt in the proper mood last night and finished it. Very cute! I like Eva and a lot of the side characters I am excited to see more of. The ending has my interest peeked for the sequel, so I plan to read on!

This was the cutest book ever! Seriously. It was like a Studio Ghibli movie in book form.

First off, the world building in this book was incredible. I could easily picture the quaint seaside town of Auteri with all its little shops and its Festival of Lights. I wish it was a real place!

Okay my peeps. Another choice, if you want to go strait MG rather than MG GN, I offer up the following. All are first in a series but only one has book 2 out.

From Rick Riordan Presents we have City of the plague god.

Then the tagged book which has an a manga style cover but is a novel

The stitcher was an impuls buy because I like Mg horror.

And I love Armstrong‘s adult and YA books so I had to try the Mg.

I could also do one MG and MGGN

LibrarianRyan And just FYI. I had to play Jenga to get these out. I really need to take stuff up to my library but it has no heat and it‘s 9F here. Burrrrrrr🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶 (edited) 3y
brittanyreads Um, firstly...BRR and secondly, The Stitchers looks amazing!!! Eva has been on my radar and I've, also, loved other books by Armstrong 3y
cwarnier I am game for whatever. Any of these look good too. 3y

Well hopefully the world can now get back to "COVID-normal." I managed to get these two done over the past few days.

AllisonM89 What did you think of Elatsoe??? 3y
SassenachTheBookWizard @AllisonM89 it was as alright. I had a hard time at the start keeping focus (I was reading it when Biden got declared the winner though so I could've just been distracted by that. I'm def going to read it again) 3y
Tera66 I love that cover on the left😍! 3y

When the Goodreads synopsis compared this book to Kiki‘s Delivery Service, that was all the convincing I needed to pick this up. Kiki is one of my all time favorite Ghibli movies. Eva Evergreen definitely brought up all the wonderful and cozy Ghibli feels that I was expecting, especially with the descriptions of food. Very cute and very fun!

I absolutely loved this book! It‘s such a cute little witch story. I loved it so much I nominated it for the CYBILs awards!

If you read YA or MG or younger books please consider nominating a new book here: http://www.cybils.com/2020/10/2020-cybils-nominations-and-go.html

I felt some serious Kiki vibes from this book a witch who wanted to help and had to watch the movie after. #teamharkness #scarathlon2020 @StayCurious

StayCurious How cute! 4y

Saturday‘s book splurge #bookhaul

BN has not been getting in books like they used to. At least not see fantasy/SFF for kids and teens.

katy4peas 😢 quarantine has slowed everything down I think. I hope that is the main reason and that their inventory picks back up! (edited) 4y

How cute is this book cover. It looks like its begging for a Studio Ghibi collaboration. I have heard many good things, plus the good cover, i see this flying off library shelves.

Out August 4

BookmarkTavern I was just going to say that this looks like a Miyazaki movie to me! ❤️ 4y

Ok so I don‘t read a lot of kids books, but this one grabbed my attention. It‘s like Kiki‘s Delivery Service, only with higher stakes. It‘s really, very lovely. Doesn‘t come out until August, but for all you parents out there, keep an eye out. Eva is a semi-magical witch who has to find creative fixes to problems to make up for having only a pinch of magic.
