Unsealing the hatch of a rusty old WWII tank will unleash a demonic nightmare in this novel by the master of modern horror (Library Journal). Thirty-five years have passed since the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day turned the tide of World War II against Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Reich, and its been more than three decades since the residents of the tiny French village of Le Vey witnessed the horrific slaughter of hundreds of German soldiers by thirteen black tanks. One of the tanks remains on the outskirts of townits hatch mysteriously sealed, trapping its controller insideonly to be discovered by American surveyor and cartographer Dan McCook. Driven by curiosity and an inexplicable compulsion, McCook is about to do the unthinkable and release what lives within the tank upon an unsuspecting world. And once the monstrous occupant reunites with others of its demonic kind, a new world war will begin, one that threatens to wash the earth in blood and drag every man, woman, and child through the fiery gates of hell. A chilling and ingeniously original tale of demonic possession and apocalyptic possibilities, The Devils of D-Day is classic horror at its best, from the award-winning author of The Manitou.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this horror story especially since it was a #buddyread with #readingwithTBRcrew. I like a supernatural war story with some religion thrown in. It was a good short book for October. Thank you for reading with me ladies!

Mehso-so

I expected this to be more scary and gory, and I think that‘s why I didn‘t LOVE it. I also didn‘t really take to the main characters.

The idea was interesting, and I enjoyed how historical wars, religion, and angels and demons were used. The ending was good but also felt a little anticlimactic. So overall a so-so from me!

ElizaMarie Definitely see why you thought that way. I did feel kinda like a “slow burn“ but then didn't bang! But I really enjoyed it. I wish there was a thing between “so-so“ and “pick“ 3y
Bookworm54 @ElizaMarie Sometimes that would help! It‘s definitely between the 2 for me, but more of a so-so 3y

Chapter 4

We have found out more about how the devils of d-day came about, and other wars that they have participated in through history, from the Reverend who sealed the tank to begin with.

The story feels more like a mystery I think, with some supernatural elements and a teeny bit of killing... I look forward to the conclusion!

I find it slightly humorous that Dan mentions her frock Being out of style. What is up with that?

And why does she want to open the tank so badly? Sounds like she‘s part of the madness.

Bookworm54 Yeah I don‘t really know why she wants to open the tank. She hasn‘t all this time. Leave it alone! Dan‘s comment there is just another reason I dislike him. What do you know about fashion Dan?! 3y
ElizaMarie @Bookworm54 ha like he was totally like... girl!!! Go shopping! 3y
jb72 @Bookworm54 @ElizaMarie 😂 it was so random! But I noticed he also described what the priest was wearing too. Like he‘s some fashion consultant. 3y
mollyrotondo @Bookworm54 @ElizaMarie @jb72 I just can‘t stand Dan. He is way too judgmental. 3y

Was behind on this buddy read but quickly caught up (took an extra long bath yesterday --- with a refill of hot water throughout) anyway this is such a gripping book! I might end up finishing it today :)

Chapter 3: a growing sense of unease and a bit of horror. But still not as much as anticipated to say I should be half way now 😱

The devil is interesting though, hopefully we ramp up the horror in the penultimate chapter!

Oryx That's so funny. My dog lies on the stairs when I'm working upstairs and my partner is working downstairs too. She squeezes onto the corner stair (which she's far too big for) 3y
ElizaMarie Ha Ash is probably so confused!!! Like how is he supposed to divide his time!? 3y

HonoraryGilmoreGirl My dogs will go down the stairs with us, and then randomly stop and trip us. 3y
jessinikkip Haha my dog hates it too! He will come up and stare and then down and stare and then huff and head back up until we get the point 😂😂 3y
StayCurious What a beautiful dog! 3y
mollyrotondo Hahaha these dog stories! ❤️ 3y
mollyrotondo I really liked the whole nighttime scene in Father Anton‘s house. The devil was scary and the deaths would have made great movie scenes! But how is Eloise getting all these ancient artifacts? Who has this stuff laying around? 😂 3y
Bookworm54 @mollyrotondo that was my favourite bit so far. Creepy! :) but I agree, Eloise has a lot of helpful old stuff lying around. If she was friends with Father Anton and lived near the tank, maybe he helped her find them? 3y

This book has been mentioned a lot by the priest. We are closer to finding out what evil was sealed in the tank, but at the minute the demon seems pretty chill. 2/5 chapters and it hasn‘t attacked anyone yet. But who knows what horrors await!

I am liking the mix of religion and demons with the history, but Dan is still an ass, FYI 🤣

Chapter 1: I agree with @Bookworm54 - I‘m not sure I‘m liking the main character so far. He seems a bit pushy, but maybe he‘ll grow on me. The story seems good so far.

mollyrotondo It sort of reminds me of Dario Argento movies. The main guy is always an American in Europe and gets roped into a crime and ends up investigating the crime himself. I really like the supernatural war devise. I don‘t read enough of it but I really like it. 3y
jb72 @mollyrotondo I‘m definitely intrigued by the haunted tank! I‘m wondering what‘s inside?!? 3y
ElizaMarie Super behind! I didn't start it as planned. But.. I will be starting this one today and hopefully catch back up! (rough couple of days at work) 3y

Started this #BuddyRead today for #ChapterADay with #TBRCrew

It‘s interesting so far, but I really dislike the main character, even though the book is in the 1st person. Hopefully he will grow on me, or at least become less of an asshat once he starts getting haunted!

The doggy has recently returned from daycare so here is a picture of him :)

1 point for #TeamHarkness

mollyrotondo I do not like him either. I haven‘t finished the first chapter yet, but there are little comments he makes that really irk me so far. 3y
Bookworm54 @mollyrotondo yes! It‘s the little comments that are bothering me. And his descriptions. We will see if he gets more bearable 🤣 3y
mollyrotondo @Bookworm54 or maybe he gets his comeuppance? I just finished and there was at least one more comment that just know made me shake my head. He‘s very male chauvinistic. But I like the story so far. I like a war horror 3y
Bookworm54 @mollyrotondo we can but hope haha. Yeah I‘m very keen to see where it goes. :) 3y

A couple of us are going to start this on Monday for a buddy read. It‘s a fairly short book. If you‘re interested in joining in, let me know and I‘ll tag you. I know both Eliza and Molly are joining in. I tagged a few others who said they might be interested as well.

Bookworm54 That doesn‘t sound so bad. It must be short! ☺️ let‘s do it! 3y
jessinikkip I couldnt get a copy but keep tagging me, I'd love to follow along with y'alls posts 3y

Potential TBR for October reading. Two of the books are my huge Kryptonite list and #bookspin list. Drawing Down the Moon is a long term FB group buddy read so it won‘t be finished in October. #TBRCrew
