53 posts | 67 read | 21 to read
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Last House Guesta Reese Witherspoon Book Club selectioncomes a new riveting suspense novel about a mysterious murder in an idyllic and close-knit neighborhood. We had no warning that shed come back. Hollows Edge used to be a quiet place. A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another. But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and a half later, Hollows Edge is simmering. The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. And now, Rubys back. With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollows Edge, and into the home she once shared with Harper Nash. Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister. But now shes terrified. What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go? Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollows Edge. Its increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truetts murders. And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killers next victim. Pulsating with suspense and with the shocking twists that are Megan Mirandas trademark, Such a Quiet Place is Megan Mirandas best novel yeta twisty locked-box thriller that will keep you turning pages late into the night.

This was an absorbing fast-paced read that I read in a day. I wouldn‘t call it a thriller, per se, but more of a suspenseful story where you have to unravel the truth of what happened in this secretive neighborhood where a tragedy occurred a year before the book started. I thought it was really well done. My dad lent it to me and I look forward to talking about it with him!

Life‘s too short for characters this annoying. I got 25% in and had to bail. I‘m sure the narrator‘s jailbird roommate Ruby will turn out to be innocent because that‘s how these typically work out. But she‘s on my last raggedy ass nerve so I honestly don‘t care and will be annoyed if she‘s innocent and even more annoyed if she is martyred proving her innocence. 😆

Welcome to my quiet place. This book has a lot of “Desperate Housewives“ vibes. I found this story was a bit of a challenge to get in to. So much of it was repetitive, and there was not a lot lot character development, which I became frustrated with.

This is an interesting thriller/ mystery where the reader discovers the secrets of every neighbor in the neighborhood. If you like drama mixed in with your mystery, this is the one for you!

This was my favorite Megan Miranda that I've read so far. I was captivated by the suspect and I had to know what really happened. The book had me riveted throughout. I could picture this scenario happening in my neighborhood.

Perfect little town, perfect little neighborhood, but appearances can be deceiving. A couple is found dead in their home and the accused is released 14 months later as new evidence points towards the fact that they had the wrong person. Who really was responsible for the Truetts murder? This story was a slow burn with a lot of characters to throw you off the trail but in all not a bad read.

2-28-22: My 20th finished book of 2022! Harper Nash lives in a community called Hollow‘s Edge. 14 months ago, her neighbors, the Truetts, died suddenly. Ruby Fletcher, Harper‘s roommate, was convicted of the crime. But the conviction has been overturned and Ruby is back to prove that she is innocent and that one of the other neighbors is to blame. This mystery touches on a lot of interesting ideas, which could have been placed against the archetype characters in interesting ways. It's such a medley of interesting concepts, which never really got their due. Everything felt like it was left just short of completely realized.

Megan Miranda never disappoints. Such a Quiet Place is a little bit more of a slow burn that some of her other novel, but that didn‘t really bother me. Here, she has captured the insular, watchful, suspicious nature of a small community with expertise. There are a range of distracting (some compelling) red herrings. A great way to spend a Saturday, especially at the end of a long year.

I have so much to catch up on. I'm still not feeling great so haven't felt up to posting much. I'm sorry. I won't remember a ton of details. I remember thinking the main character was a bit naive and how much the character who came back after prison got on my nerves. But the outcome did surprise me, I didn't see it coming.

I thought this was really good. It kept me reading and wanting to continue reading. Everyone has secrets. There were creepy parts. There was a map at the start of the book to show the layout of the neighbourhood and where each of the main “players” lived on the block, which I thought was a nice addition

I enjoyed this more than the previous Megan Miranda book I listened to. I thought the characters were more interesting this one and things definitely picked up when a certain character is killed. I felt there was so much description and redundancy in this listen that it made it boring at times. I was underwhelmed by the whodunit.

I truly enjoyed this story, and rate it with The Girl From Widow Hills, which I loved last year. The sense of place and culture were spot on, and the intrigue kept me guessing all the way through. I flew through this book and would recommend it to thriller and mystery readers wholeheartedly. I look forward to many more stories from Megan Miranda!

Hollows Edge is a peaceful private community where the neighbors are all friends. That was until a couple on the street was killed by CO. The police arrested Ruby for the murder over a year ago. Well she is back. What are Ruby‘s motives for even wanting to go back to a place where everyone pointed to her as the killer.

With multiple twists and turns this was a great thriller that delves into paranoia. A highly recommended.

I‘m just not on board with Megan anymore. Her writing style is getting to me (or maybe it‘s Rebekkah Ross‘ narration). Either way, I don‘t plan on reading her next one.

Ruby was convicted of murdering her neighbors. After 14 months in prison, she‘s released on a technicality. 🤔 She comes back to the neighbors who testified and sent her away. (Makes sense…not!) Will her only supporter, MC Harper, help her or turn on her? Between a so-so & pan.

Megabooks @TrishB @Cinfhen I read two of Jewell‘s. I‘ll read her if I have an interest into that type of book, but they‘re definitely library checkouts! (Like one was about cults and the other the Internet, but I do not have interest in her domestic thrillers. I‘m really down on domestic thrillers period.) 3y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen @Megabooks Somehow your comments don‘t make me eager to pick up one. Which is good, since you are my feeders enough already as it is 😉😘 3y
Cinfhen If you want a good thriller / that‘s a bit gritty but really page turning and thought provoking I recommend S. A. Cosby @BarbaraBB either this one 3y

I love Megan Miranda novels and this is one of her best! An insular community, lots of lies, assumptions, and omissions, a community webpage, a conspiratorial trap, and murder. There is tight suspense throughout and a tragic twisted ending. Stay away from Hollow‘s Edge. I warned you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is an extremely slow-burn bloodless murder mystery. Although Megan Miranda did a great job of building tension I found it hard for the plot to completely keep my attention as the characters were all so bland and boring. Even the crime(s) lacked the gritty and dark vibe I prefer to escape in. I‘d recommend this one for readers that want to enjoy a more low-key thriller or mystery suspense but without any gore or disturbing scenes. 3.5 stars

Set in a small subdivision with a nice map, the book opens 14 months after the deaths of narrator Harper‘s neighbors. Her ex-roommate convicted of the crime has been released from prison- and returns to Hollow‘s Edge setting the neighborhood back on edge. It moves a bit slowly but builds tension nicely. It‘s not my favorite of hers but it makes for a fun backyard read! Looking forward to her next book!

The author's books are always a must-read for me. It's very much a slow-burner, taking its time to build up a picture of the community where Harper lives. Once the story got going it gathered pace & I had to read the last third of the book in one go. The ending wasn't quite as thrilling as I had hoped, but it was still a great read. 4🌟

Wow, I was intrigued the whole time and I kept changing my hypothesis every chapter. I had absolutely no idea what the ending was going to be and I was not disappointed with the result. The suspense, the character dynamic especially with Harper and Ruby, and the plot twists were all fantastic! I don't have a lot of critiques other than the map should be in a bigger format, and a character sheet would be appreciated.
