Maggie sets out to figure out what really happened the night they fled and was everything her father wrote a lie or is the house truly haunted?
Starting this one on a very unseasonably warm October day! At least it looks like fall even if it doesn‘t feel like it 😂
Since today is Friday the 13th AND it's October, I'm taking a break from the book I started yesterday and listening to a spooky story while I work instead. Let's hope it lives up to the hype. First time reading this author.

pickWhat a great read. It was atmospheric, spooky and a gripping read. Her family only spent a total of 20 days in the house before fleeing in the middle of night and never looking back. A time that Maggie doesn't remember at all. I loved the alternating chapters of Maggies experiences and chapters from her father book “House of Horrors“. A mesmerising addictive read. The way it concluded, the perfect ending to this perfect book ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

pickA very entertaining haunted house thriller. This tells the story of Maggie, who‘s life has been molded by the book her dad wrote telling the tale of a haunted house her family lived in briefly as a child. When her dad dies, it opens up questions of the truth of the haunted house story and she goes back to the house to get it ready to sell and answer many of the questions. It is fast paced overall, but at a certain point I did guess the mystery.4⭐️

pick“Baneberry Hall remembers.” This is a pretty good eerie story cleverly told in alternating chapters, some from the present day, and some from a book written by the protagonist‘s father. “The House of Horrors,” written to explain the events that occurred after Maggie‘s parents purchased Banberry House, posits ghosts as the proximate cause of a series of unexplained deaths. The truth is even more sinister. Good twisty ending.
so-soThis was my 4th book read in March and also my #BookSpin for the month. Pretty good page turner, but not as good as the other books I have read by him imo. I guessed the twist but that didn‘t bother me too much. I just felt kind of like really?! pickAre there ghosts in Baneberry Hall or not? Well this was all sorts of twisty creepy fun to find out. I liked the telling of the two storylines because I knew Maggie was okay (not the kids, not the kids!) 25 years after the family terror.

Went to Library to get something laminated and ended up checking out two books. Y'all have me reading two at a time now.
Starting this physical book and reading An Affair of Spies on Kindle.
pickThis has been my favorite Sager to read, horror and mystery all combine for a compelling story. I feel like there were still some questions I wanted answered at the end! 👻
so-soMeh… I actually quite liked a lot of this, but the ending and being what it was. I wish it was different and I wish more thrillers would just let it actually be ghosts.
pickAbsolutely loved it! Maggie inherits a haunted house with a dark and sinister history and goes on a mission to discover her own family history; was her family terrorised by ghosts when they lived there when she was a kid or did her Dad make it all up to make money? Such a great premise and the writing was engrossing and fully immersive. Can‘t wait to read more by this author.

pickI really liked this. I listened to the audio. I thought it was appropriately creepy! It went back and forth between Maggie‘s current day viewpoint and her father‘s viewpoint from the time to weave the story together.
I know y‘all know which one I‘m most excited for😂😂 #SagBabies 🤣🖤

pickHome Before Dark was a trip of a read! It did not read as a true horror book to me but it absolutely had the spine-tingling suspense that I was looking forward to. I had my ups and downs with Maggie and the story was a struggle at times because of the past-present transitions but, overall, Home Before Dark was an entertaining story.

1. Definitely 4 stars so far. I have about 50 pages left and it's scary! Do I still read before bed and have nightmares? Answer: I haven't learned my lesson and the nightmares have been insane.

pickRiley Sager had a formula that works for him. He is an author that I‘m okay with a formula. I loved this book. I loved the twists and I like the characters way more than the last Sager book I read. I feel like the relationships were deeper in this book. Like every other of his books, the last third or so was my favorite.

I haven‘t had a strong reading year so far. I‘ve been quite busy this year and haven‘t read a lot of books that held my attention. Part of the reason is also because I‘ve been playing a lot of video games lately (assassins creed and sims4 mostly).

If you've enjoyed other reads by this author you won't be disappointed, but this isn't my favorite.

This is partly a spoof of the "true horror" genre, with alternating chapters of dad's cheesy, foreshadowing at the end of every chapter, book and daughter Maggie's experiences as she tries to get some closure on what exactly happened here and why her parents lie about it.
