I listened to The Mysterious Disappearance of Aidan S. after my son read it. When Aidan returns from being missing for six days, only his brother, Lucas, believes his outlandish tale. Because the novel doesnt delve deep into the disappearance, the intriguing set-up ultimately leads to disappointment. It's a quick-read with a simple story and sweet, underdeveloped characters. Overall, unreached potential is an apt description. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A mysterious dresser, a different world…. Perhaps it is because it was set in this world that I didn‘t find it magical or enthralling.

I really liked this middle grade story about a young boy who goes missing and comes back with an outlandish story of where he's been. The only one who believes him is his brother... I did not expect the ending to go in the direction it did, so that was kind of cool.
This was my 6th #nutsinmay book and my 2nd MG title, so I have officially met and exceeded my goals! @Andrew65

A beautiful slow-burning middle grade novel about family, stories and a magical world.

For me, this book... this story... the slow unraveling... the gradual crescendo... was a hook tugging at my heart strings and butterflies in my stomach. A lovely, quiet, slow-paced middle grade novel with refreshingly matter-of-fact inclusion of LGBTQIA characters, plenty of imagination, a subtle nod to the fantastical, and family as well as community at its core.

A book... aware of the 24-hour news cycle and of the tweet habits of politicians... of how quickly we dismiss stories and move on to something else.

As I keep reading, it feels like the anticipation keeps building... keep hoping for something to happen... maybe a resolution? Or could it be a cliffhanger up ahead? Who knows!! But Levithan has me on this journey!

Good middle grade novel about an 11 year old boy named Liam whose 12 year old brother, Aiden, goes missing. Aiden returns and says he was in a magical land. No one believes him except for Liam.

Like many of Levithan's book, he tells a great story, but there are also many layers underneath. The theme of this one is the power of story - who has the right to tell a story, is it the truth is we can't believe it? Highly recommend for late elementary/middle school students who often feel misunderstood by adults.

I'm hoping to read at least a couple of Middle Grade stories this year, so I got an ARC of this one on a whim... And it's turning out to be a really interesting read!
